@mfrqk6 I kind of like how subtle it is! At first, it's just a really cute family photo. It will take a second look to really see the surprise, but I think it will be fun for you to tell them to take a closer look after their first glance at it.
Me: 28 | DH: 31 Together since 2006 | Married May 2015 TTC #1 since November 2015 BFP 5/17/16 | EDD 1/27/17 | Born 2/4/17
@mfrqk6 Same thoughts as @lecool, I think the "slow reveal" of having to look at it for a moment makes it more awesome--you just need to make sure you record a video when you show it to your parents so you really capture their surprise when they do the double-take
So for my parents and in-laws, we bought baby bottles and put the positive pregnancy tests in there. We put them in gift bags and told them they were 'late mothers day' and 'early fathers' day gifts. for the siblings who weren't home, later on we gave them the bag and just said "hey look what we got Mom and Dad!" It was pretty cute.
Now we're waiting awhile before we actually announce it. My husband is a film/video major, he wants to make kind of a 'day in the life' video, with no talking, and slowly drop hints that there will be 'three', not two in our family. and at the end show the videos of our families opening their gifts.
This is eluding me. I wish I could make it thematic with the 4th of July maybe.... or summer.... but I can't figure out anything I like. Some really cute ideas in here!
We're still planning to reveal to the families on Father's Day by having our dad's open onesies and then cards that say that part two of the gift is on layaway until January. We plan to tell my SIL ahead of time. She has been TTC for 2 years and we don't want to force her to be a part of that moment. If she chooses to be there for the gift opening, she won't be caught unaware.
As far as friends that live far away and social media, my husband is just going to post a picture of a bun in an oven and let people figure it out.
We were thinking of doing a 4th of July announcement too and mailing it to our closest friends and family. There's some really cute ideas on pinterest.
My husband made this for me for my birthday. We are big Harry Potter fans. So we are going to change out the pictures of the kids at the bottom to point to the right and then change the reserved sign to say coming in January 2017
I don't think we will do anything "official" on social media, we didn't for our first, I think people just started to notice I was pregnant in photos once it became obvious. To tell the grandmothers last time I made a onesie that said "Made in "(name of state)" and I'm thinking about doing that again. We've moved since our first baby so the name of our new state on the onesie will be the give-away that we're expecting again. If that makes sense.
@Briala@Knottie1443924966I also have 2 Shibas! I plan to use them in an announcement! Maybe a sign between them saying mom and dad are getting us a human!
This baby (#3) was a surprise so our announcement will be very unexpected which makes it a little more fun. We have a trip planned to Disney this summer. I'm planning on buying mouse ears for the older 2 with their names on them then buying a 3rd set and having the EDD put on them. I was hoping to take a pic of the 3 ears together in front of the castle or something. I haven't decided if I want the older 2 to be wearing them or not. I've also thought about having the older 2 wear them and put the third set on the ground between them. I have a week there to figure it out though. Hahaha
We are also announcing at our family 4th party, not sure how yet. Last time we brought cupcakes with blue and pink icing to a family get together. I did the same for work. My family picked up on it a lot faster than co-workers
Look up "pregnancy announcements" on YouTube. Lots of ideas but the favourite is the group photo that turns out to be a video where they get asked to say something other than cheese. I got addicted to watching these as some of them are brilliant.
My Dad's favourite wine is Chateau neuf de pap. I recreated the label, making it as authentic looking as possible but renaming it Chateau neuf de Grandpap. He didn't twig at all! It was only when my mum opened her present - a kitting book called "what to knit when you're expecting" and she twigged straight away, that my Dad finally caught on. So funny.
With our first pregnancy, we had our dog wear a big brother t-shirt and took him over to our parents' house. On Facebook, we posted pictures of our little family. The dog wore a sign that said "big baby" and I held a sign by my stomach that said "little baby".
This time, we will have my daughter scribble a picture and we will put a copy of the ultrasound on it and give it to grandparents. For our Facebook announcement, I got DD a big sister shirt and we are thinking of having her sit on our dog (he's 75 pounds) and put a thought bubble coming from him saying "what? You're having another tiny human?!" He makes the most hilarious annoyed faces.
Does anyone have any ideas of how to announce to a large group in person?
When we've been telling people, we like to hide it in conversation and keep talking until the person notices, which I have to say, is insanely fun.
Talking to H's parents on Skype "Well we just wanted to call while we were lazing around and let you know we're having a baby and say hi and see how your weekend was..."
Talking to friends that visited the house yesterday, we gave them a tour (it's a new place) and came to H's office slash the future nursery. "Yea we need to get all of this stuff out of here so we have space for the baby we're having and we'll probably finish the basement out soon so we can get all the office stuff down there and update the paint colors..."
It's really fun to watch people take a moment to try to figure out if we said what they think we said and then get really excited and stop our rambling to congratulate us.
Maybe you can act like you're giving some other speech to say how happy you are to have everyone there, throw in that you're excited to be pregnant, then continue talking about the food or the weekend or whatever. Certainly makes us laugh!
We just told our parents yesterday and will wait until our early ultrasound on the 7th to tell close friends and family (my low progesterone numbers, again prompted an early one, yea supplement suppositories said no one ever!). Of course, there were a couple of close friends who knew right away--it's highly unlike me to turn down a cold beer! We told our son right before we had him wear this shirt at our cookout. Took my parents a few seconds to understand...his parents didn't quite get it until we told them to re-read it. Lol
Here is the poem I came up with to announce. I will probably do some sort of picture of the 4 boys with chalkboard numbers and than have the number 5 sitting next to them or something.
"Four just wasn’t enough to complete our crew, so we thought
and we thought about what we could do.
We could get another puppy and a kitten too! No, than it would be like living at the zoo!
We thought and we thought and we thought some more…
What if we had one more than four!
As crazy as it seems, this much is true…coming this January,
we are due!
Four big brothers are so excited, for baby number 5 we couldn’t
be more delighted!"
I mentioned mine earlier in this thread... we're both software engineers so we're doing our announcement like a nerdy code review. We're finally putting finishing details on ours. I just need to buy a domain name for the website and then add an ultrasound once we have that next week I think we're probably going to show everyone our announcement at 11 or 12 weeks.
It's going to be a continuously updated site so it's an announcement but it's also going to be the baby's birth announcement site too probably.
it still boggles my mind how I want to do this.... All my ideas are more September to match lol I have no idea for July I like seasonal stuff though... Maybe I'll try and play up Christmas in July
Now that we saw a healthy heartbeat, I've been thinking about this too! As well as my underwater maternity shoot! My mind is going a million miles an hour lol... We're just going to go with something simple and bring my in-laws a cake for desert at one of our weekly lunches that reads "you're going to be grandparents!" for my brother in law, his birthday is coming up in about 3 weeks or so, so we got him a "New Uncle 2017, Rookie" T-shirt to tell him on his bday My parents have known since I got the BFP just because I was a little scared since I already had one mc. It's more exciting to break it to my in-laws because it will be the first grandbaby, great grandbaby, niece/nephew, etc!
For social media, since we're both travelers, and have done quite a few overseas and backpacking trips, I was going to try and find a very scenic spot and take a picture with our backpacks on, and have a little backpack with a caption that says: Our next adventure, coming Jan 2017!
We have two Goldens and are planning on doing a picture of them with a chalkboard sign in between that says 'we're getting a human!' for our big announcement sometime after the first trimester. We are still trying to come up with a cute idea to tell my parents in a couple of weeks (it will be their first grandchild)
My DH's birthday is on July 5 and I'll be 11.5 weeks so we might announce on that day depending on how well my dr appointment goes on July 1. Might say something like, celebrating my birthday with my wife and baby! Idk!
Most of our close family already knows, we did IVF and they were our cheering section. We are going to tell my grandparents on Father's Day, but nothing too crazy, probably will just blurt it out or hand the latest U/S image to them.
We we are going to do a social media announcement. We have been actively trying with Drs for 3.5 years and have been pretty open that we went on to IVF. At around 24-30 weeks we are going to do the FB post of a photo with me holding DH's stomach with a caption above that says "We had to science the shit out of this!". The Martian is DH favorite book and movie and the phrase is a play on my favorite line from the movie. I want people to know that we did IVF and that if they are struggling we know what they went through and are there for them. I'm not a huge fan of all these bump photos that get posted and what not and don't feel comfortable posting mine, so hubby's will have to do. Plus I think with our journey it jaded me quit a bit seeing so many bumps that I don't want to do that to anyone else. We are going to take the pic in the next week or two b4 I really even start to show. Our shower will be a science theme as well.

I've been very open, even on Facebook, with the fact that we were going through IVF. So, I will do an announcement since so many of our friends and family have been supporting us through our journey. And I can give a shout out to our fertility clinic at the same time.

My family (big Italian family!) will be getting together 4th of July weekend to celebrate the 4th and my nieces 20th birthday. We're considering announcing on that day, but I'm not sure how to announce. We have a 20 month old son, but my sister already did a tshirt announcement with her son a few years ago, so looking for something different. Any suggestions?
Note: my niece would in no way be offended that we announced while celebrating her birthday, she's in college and won't be here for her actual birthday, we're just celebrating on that day.
My plan is to have my daughter wearing suspenders and a bow tie with her tardis parked beside a tree, and then have the ultrasound pinned to the tree and write something like "a new companion will be joining us Jan 3rd 2017" *giant dr who fans over here*
We decided we're going to get those "Hi! My name is ________" name tag stickers and write "Grandma" or "Aunt _____" or whatever and give them to family members in a little package to open. It works out with SIL because her birthday is in a few weeks, so we'll just place it at the bottom of her gift or in a card or something. Not super creative but it's about all we could come up with aside from making "big sister" paper hats for our dogs.
ETA: SIL lives far away so we'll just be skyping for her birthday, and she won't mind at all that we announce on that day, she LOVES LOVES LOVES babies and gets excited whenever we mention "future kids"
We just did a summer trip visiting family so we announced to everyone.
For my parents and In-Laws we made picture frames with "I love my Grandma and Grandpa" and inside it put "Baby *last name* coming January 2017" in the middle. They immediately got it and were super excited.
For DHs sibling we just Skyped them and had the picture frame in the background. Took a while but they saw it. SIL was super excited.
For my siblings, we were all together (except my oldest sister) for my nephew's baptism. After the festivities for the baptism we gave our baby nephew a baby gift (first time we met him) and we had gotten him some stuff and made a onsie that said 'cousins make the best friend's took a little bit but my sister finally got it. Lol. My other sister was at home about to go into labor with her 5th and we did the same thing. She knew what it meant immediately.
For Facebook we plan on doing a picture with our two dogs.
Our surname is Winters & were both big Game of Thrones fans so thinking of doing up a picture of the ultrasound (when we finally have one) and captioning it "Baby Winters is Coming" along with the Stark direwolf
So I LOVE to sleep. It's always a running joke with our family and friends. A lot of people knew I was coming off BC, but I was adamant that we wouldn't be trying for a little while. Well it happened much sooner than I anticipated! I picked up this shirt off Etsy and I've just been showing up places wearing it (or underneath a zip up). My best friend screamed and tackled me once she realized what it said. I love watching people's faces process it!
