Fitness Mama's

How are you feeling? What are you still doing? How long do you anticipate working out still?

I am a fitness instructor and typically teach 15 classes a week (a mix of Spin, Step, HIIT & Yoga). I am doing probably 50% (Step being my most intense, Spin I can fake it more) and then "coach" the other 50%.  This week at 28 weeks, I am noticing some tightness when I am working out- thinking Braxton Hicks? I subbed a few classes this week so I will be 19 complete by Saturday. Thinking I took on too much this week though.

Teaching my classes as long as I can,  but getting worried with feeling potential Braxton Hicks. Have Dr appt next week to talk about it.

  • I worked out (not as strenuously as you are!) until 33 weeks with my first and then had to switch to just yoga and lots of walking.  This pregnancy was so different from the beginning that I'm just playing it by ear.  I've been able to do workouts from my trainer pretty consistently since about 16 weeks when I started to feel "better" but no running after three months of basically nothing.  Hoping to keep up the trainer workouts as long as possible and will definitely keep to walking and yoga.  I've seen women in my prenatal yoga classes that are past their guess date and know I can do it if they can!

  • My workouts are feeling better (energy wise) but I've lost so much muscle and strength despite still working out! I'm still lifting weights but have toned down intensity and am mostly doing it just to keep a little strength. Starting to do a little cardio but I get winded so fast!! Mostly walking, stair master and elliptical. I plan to continue as long as I can! @mooncusp22 are you making sure to stay hydrated? I get BH a lot when I need more water.. Even though I feel like I'm drinking a ton!
  • squishy0511   Yes, trying to always have a water bottle in hand! Never noticed them until this week.... Was thinking maybe I just overdid it a little. Kicking my feet up to rest seems to help.

I too feel like I've lost so much muscle too. My legs are getting blubbery :o( even with all the working out still!

  • I've been feeling some stomach tightness during work outs too! I make myself sit, stretch, get back to what I was doing. I am now down to three gym days a week- a spin class, prenatal yoga class, and 45 minutes on the elliptical with the some outdoor walks thrown in too. With my son I was able to go consistently til about 35 weeks so I'm hoping to stay at that pace but this time is much more difficult!

  • I'm still running and doing CrossFit. Not as strenuously as you are, but I'm still active and just taking each day at a time. I have noticed some BH after workouts but my doctor told me to expect that. I had an appointment yesterday and asked my doctor about working out, she said I'm good to keep doing whatever as long as I generally stick to a conversational pace. I don't think BH are actually harmful, it can just be a little worrisome.

I hope to keep working out as long as possible. When I can't run anymore, I'll start walking or go to the gym for a stationary bike or elliptical. I just want to keep moving!

  • I'm still doing about 5 days a week of some kind of workout (running, heavy incline walking on treadmill, Pilates and hiit) and I get lower back pain after most of those. Hoping to keep activity level going until the end though. I was able to workout through my entire pregnancy with DD but I'm definitely noticing my energy levels being much lower this go round.

  • @LWC1112 check out maternity support bands. My doctor recommended one to me because she knows I work out a lot. I bought a cheap one on Amazon and it definitely helps. I've also heard great things about the Gabrialla and Upsie Belly bands.

I'm still doing CrossFit about 4 days a week but definitely taking it easy on the intensity.  Most days feel pretty good after I get warmed up.  I have noticed I tend to get much more sore after working out than I used to.  I also coach classes a few times a week to help my husband in our gym.  Was on my feet all day Saturday and had swollen ankles by the end of the day.  Props to you for continuing to train that many classes a week!
  • I'm down to about 3 official workouts per week. I am now in my 28th week. I've had to change up the type of workouts due to some ab pain and excessive round ligament pain. So, I am doing Pure Barre twice a week and a general aerobic style class that is about 20 minutes cardio (varies every week) and then strength training. I do these workouts through the week then try to not be too lazy through the weekend. lol
