Baby Names

Clark?

I've always wanted to name my first son Clark, after my grandmother's maiden name. Thoughts?

Part 2: What middle names do you like with Clark?

Re: Clark?

  • Love it! Any family names for a middle name? I think something with two syllables

  • Thanks for the input! I got worried that I had made it feel normal all these years of imagining it in my head. I love the idea of a name being so meaningful. I never met my grandmother but I feel like we are kindred spirits so I want to honor her. :)
  • Ummm... I kind of hate it and I can only think of the Griswolds. Sorry! I'd MN it if it means a lot to you.
  • I just love the name clark!

I keep going back and forth on Clark, but mostly I like it. I think Clark Kent, which is a good association ;) As for middle names, avoid Louis/Lewis and Kent. I prefer a 2-3 syllable middle since it is such a short name.

    Clark Joseph
    Clark Bejamin
    Clark Daniel
    Clark David
    Clark Henry
    Clark Ryan
    Clark Alexander
    Clark Mitchell
  • I'm neutral with Clark.  It was a super common surname in my hometown growing up, like similar to Smith.  So I do have a hard time disassociating that in my head but as far as surnames as first names go, it does seem to go better than most people are using.  I do like it with a pretty classic 2-3 syllable middle name and something that is not associated with a surname to avoid the full name sounding like a law firm.

I like Clark a lot! I do think of Clark Gable, Clark Kent and Clark Griswold but none of those references would throw me away from using Clark. I would avoid using a similar MN to any of those three last names, though, if that makes sense (ex. "Clark Gabriel" or "Clark Kenneth")

I like PP's suggestion of Clark Thomas. Suggesting Clark Ivan and Clark Elliott.

  • Thanks everyone!! Not even knocked up so this was super non-important but it's a name I've thought about for a long time. It's one of those names that sounds more to me like an adult name than a child's name - which is preferable to the opposite. Maybe Joseph would be a good one. DHs middle name is Joe (not Joseph, just Joe) and I am 100% against that but this would give some consistency.
