I love our Flip diapers! She uses disposables on Wednesday because my sister watches her while I am at work. So far, my only issue is night time. I have thick night time inserts, so there are no accidents, but she always ends up with a slight diaper rash from being wet all night long. It goes away quickly, but I feel bad for her. I think I need to get something for night time that wicks it away a little better. I tried using disposables at night but she always pees through them and I end up having to change her sheets and everything.

  • I absolutely love the cloth. We had to start using disposable at night because he's such a heavy wetter but other than that, no issues. We did do a weekend of disposables when we were camping since we didn't have access to water.

My husband wasn't 100% on board at first but now he sees the practicality of it along with cost savings.
  • How are y'all washing your diapers? any methods work better than others? I've been using tide and then letting then air dry in the sun, but that won't be working once the rain starts.

I use a free and clear detergent along with a sprinkle of oxyclean. I do a rinse cycle with hot, wash, then another rinse. So far, so good. I just started doing the oxyclean bc my son has really potent smelling pee and I needed a little umph.

I dry them in the drier.
  • Hi! We are using disposables at night and cloth during the day. My FIL was here helping and preferred the cloth and hubs does cloth about 75% of the time. We're mostly using osocozy prefolds with thirsties covers but she's starting to fit into the AIOs and one size pockets which I prefer. I got one each of the BG pocket and AIO and then two elementals when they were on sale. Still trying to figure out my favs but leaning toward the elementals. Hoping that once we outgrow the prefolds and bulk up our AIO stash, I can tackle the nighttime thing. I have a few friends who swear by woolies for nighttime too.

For laundry I use powder tide free and clear with a prewash and extra rinse (my machine is always super sudsy). I tried the liquid initially but the powder seems to work better. So far no issues!
  • For laundry we are using a liquid free and clear detergent. First we do a short wash on cold and then a full wash on hot. We put the inserts, prefolds, and wipes in the dryer and use the antibacterial setting (anything else and the inserts are still damp), the covers I hang dry. I will say, another thing I like about the fuzzibunz pockets is that they air dry within a couple hours! I have a few bumgenius and Gerber ones that take 2-3 days to be totally dry.
  • If any one is interested, there is a helpful fb group called Fluff love & CD science. I believe Fluff love university. Com is the accompanying website. They have loads of helpful info, and you can get a specific wash routine based on your washer/detergent/water hardness. (If anyone wants, they can pm me about it). I did a bunch of research and finally got my water test strips (I have super soft water that creates excess suds and needs an extra rinse after all is done. My prewash is a short wash, usually line 1 of Era (similar make up to tide contains borax) line 2 if there are more diapers/poopy than usual. After that is done, I peel all the diapers/inserts from the inside of the drum. Main wash is line 4 of detergent (I also throw in some scent boosters or a very small amount of baby Purex for smell. One of the things I miss about softener lol) , hot wash. Peel diapers away from the drum again, run rinse cycle (only because I have soft water. if I don't run this cycle, he gets a rash). Pockets get hung up in the house (it's been like 40s here) inserts/flour sack towels/liners get dried in the dryer. Anyone else cut up those $2 blankets for liners? I love it and plan to buy more!
  • We're still just throwing everything in the wash on warm with unscented free and clear detergent with extra rinse cycle on. Then we dry in the dryer. Nothing fancy and seems to be going well. I've noticed a smell if we let diapers sit more than 2 days though so we're washing every other day. We actually threw away a couple diapers we left in the car for a week (couldn't find them until the smell got crazy bad). Anyone else notice this? Are you guys just washing super frequently or does anyone know of a way to save diapers that have "sat" dirty for longer than a couple days?
  • Formula diapers or breast milk diapers? I only ask because their may be a difference and I only have experience with breast milk diapers. So my input may or may not matter. I only wash every 3/4 days or so. Also what kind of diapers (Aio,Ai2,cover & prefold, pockets, fitteds)? So far (fingers crossed) I've gotten every stink or stain  out no matter how long they sit.
  • Does anyone have bumgenius diapers? I just got a set as a gift for J. I was reading the instructions and they say to not wash the colored with the whites and to line dry. I have two fuzzibinz white ones that I've never had a problem washing with the others. I did receive a white bumgenius one but I don't want to worry about having to seperate and wash just three diapers seperate. Does anyone have experience with washing them all together?  does anyone dry them in the dryer? it's getting cold and rainy here so line drying isn't always going to work.

I've washed all my colors together and haven't had a problem with them. I do follow the drying instructions. Drying racks are great if it can't be done outside. I have an indoor closeline in my basement that's awesome! If my diapers feel a little crunchy once they're dry, I'll toss them in the dryer for a few minutes. But the heat can really wear the elastic out over time. @babycakesday

  • So this is just a pretty cheap wire shelf unit from home depot in our laundry hall. Craft stuff on top, diapers clothes pinned to the little bar on the bottom. Works wonderfully.
We wash everything together. No issues. I do dry my inserts usually in the dryer.
I've never had crunchy diapers...do you do a double rinse?
  • By crunchy I just mean, that feeling jeans have when you air dry them, a little stiff. I do double rinse. A few minutes in the dryer seems to do the trick .
  • Ah, lack of sleep plus lack of cues due to text left me slightly confused lol I gotcha now!
