Scheduled C-Section

Hi ladies,
It's like I've been waiting for this month to come for the longest and now that it's hear I'm getting so nervous. Everything is prepared for baby Madison like her crib, clothes, and etc it's just the c section that I'm worried about. This should be a breeze for me since this will be my third cesarean but it just feels like it's going to be different. Maybe I'm just paranoid. Does anyone else that's having a c section feel the same way?

Re: Scheduled C-Section

  • I'm still hoping for a vbac but not putting all my eggs in that basket. I guess my biggest fear about RCS is recovering with a toddler at home as well as a newborn. With the first, my biggest worry was sneezing or forgetting and reaching over the couch. But with an almost 2 y/o DD, she's not going to like that I can't pick her up or she can't use me as a jungle gym. You've been through that it sounds like, how was it having a CS with a kiddo at home? Sorry I'm not much help! If nothing else, my OB said a RCS with no labor is much easier to recover from than having 10-12 hours of labor and then a CS. Silver lining?

I have a RCS scheduled as well, my 2nd. I've gotten to where I feel okay about it, but I'm nervous about the recovery, like @sillyfox said, with a toddler at home. I'm just nervous about the recovery in general. I remember getting so frustrated with the pain and lack of good mobility the first time around. At least now I know what to expect. Before you know it, you'll get to hold your LO and you'll forget about those nerves.

  • I am scheduled for my second c-s this Monday. I've had dreams about having a vaginal delivery, only to wake up and remember that I'm not a good candidate for a vbac.  I'm trying to look at the positives - at least I won't be having an induction!  (sorry I know many people go down that road).  Also, I don't remember much of the recovery process because I was preoccupied with the twins in the nicu.
I had a great c-section last time, so I hope that the actual surgery is just as good.  I have to remember that many things are out of my control, but I trust my OB and care team.  I have to remember to be slow to eat ice chips and drink liquids, but to ambulate early and often.  I know I will be better at taking the ibuprofen because I won't have to be leaving the postpartum unit for the nicu, hopefully.
Good Luck to all of you!

  • I had a myomectomy in March of 2015 and my csection in April 2016. Honestly, maybe it was because the myomectomy was a 4 hr surgery while the csection was 45 minutes, but my recovery was a lot easier. I didn't have as much trouble standing up (my abdominal muscles had me scrunched like a question mark after the myo) and felt energetic enough to mercilessly pester my nurses into taking out my catheter and letting me walk the same day as the csection. Maybe practice makes it easier or at least more bearable?

Yeah...This is my 2nd (tomorrow!) and I'm nervous. Mostly about not being able to lift DD1 and functioning well on my own without relying on others for a while.
ETA: I'm just preparing myself as much as I can. I got a binder to hopefully help PP and give me extra support I didn't have last time. I've got my Boppy packed to help BFing and I made sure to have enough easy access and loose clothing for the hospital as well as recovery (I bought a bunch of loose dresses and rompers for the summer).

Having had 2 myomectomys and one baby via C/s I can tell you they're different surgeries. With the myomectomy they're essentially cutting you open then also cutting all the fibroids out of different places in your ute which makes recovery a lot harder than when you have your baby via C/S. It also helps that you have a tiny human to take care of vs a jar of tumors. ;)
I'm glad you're doing so well!!

  • I try to focus on the fact I am getting this baby here healthy and happy.  Best feeling ever (even though I have to have a C-section).  Also I keep in mind recovery from my last my C-section was much easier than recovery for another abdominal surgery I have had.
