I had my first blood draw this morning and will have another one Thursday...depending on my levels, I may have more bloodwork done over the next week...but the nurse told me today that most likely I'll have my first u/s between weeks 5 & 6 (I've also been working with a RE, which is why it will be so early)...so most likely the week of May 9th as well.

  • I had a phone appt to discuss health history, current medications, and symptom management yesterday. The first u/s appt is scheduled for 5/24.  Even though 8 weeks is considered the standard, it still seems so far away.
  • First ultrasound is may 20!

    May 23rd! I can't wait! Ultrasound at 10am!
  • I couldn't get an appointment until May 31.  I hate waiting so long for that first appointment.  We will likely get a quick ultrasound to make sure everything looks okay on that day!

Had my bloodwork done today, but I can't get my first prenatal appointment until nearly 10 weeks :open_mouth:

Even though we were TTC and knew it might happen, we booked a month-long trip to Denmark and leave in about a week so... 9.5 weeks it is! I'm guessing that's not too bad. A little concerned because my last pregnancy was twins and I know once you've conceived twins, it's pretty much out there that you're at a higher risk of conceiving them again. But who knows, maybe it'll just be a singleton this time. Hopefully everything works out!

Oh my gosh, 20 weeks?! I'd go crazy. On the other hand, that's got to be a unique experience to feel your baby kick for the first time before even seeing it.

  • May 20, 2 days before my birthday!!
  • May 13 is my appointment with the nurse for labs, etc. First ultrasound and OB doc appointment isn't until June 9! But I'm having an early ultrasound done on May 17th at a pregnancy center, because I can't wait until I'm 10 weeks!  :p
  • May 25 is our first ultrasound!
  • My initial appointment is 5/5....I'm guessing they'll just be confirming the pregnancy with blood work and what not. I don't know if they'll do an ultrasound for confirmation. I will only be halfway through my 5th week at that point. We shall see though.
  • The ONLY good thing about needing an RE is that we get tons of appointments ;) I had beta draws Monday and Thursday last week, again Monday next week, first ultrasound will be Wednesday next week! I'll probably have another ultrasound the week after- Wednesday should be too early for a heartbeat.

  • I have an appointment scheduled for tomorrow -- for you second and third time moms - should my husband come with me, or is it just going to be a boring appointment that he doesn't need to go to? I'd imagine they won't do an ultrasound for my initial appointment, correct? I should have asked the nurse when I called to set it up, but I was running late for work and had to get off the phone. Haha.

It's pretty routine. Vitals, pee in a cup, family history, etc. If they didn't mention an ultrasound I wouldn't expect it. It also depends on your insurance. Some companies only cover up to 2 I've heard.

With my first pregnancy, my initial OB intake appointment did not include an U/S...that be said, DH was with me, which was helpful as they went through both of our family histories and were able to suggest possible prenatal testings depending on risk factors for both of us.

it's a crapshoot and depends on whether your OB has access to an ultrasound in the office or not. With my first, they didn't so they had to send me out for an ultrasound (I was living in a pretty rural area). For my second, they didn't believe that I had ovulated late so they did an 'on the spot' ultrasound and confirmed what I knew (vindication! ;)). I'd call and find out what to expect so that you and your H can make an informed decision. While it's not the end of the world to miss an ultrasound (my DH couldn't care less at this point), you'll be able offer your H the opportunity to make the decision himself and avoid any potential hurt feelings. Good luck!!!

  • I think most do an ultra sound at the first appointment to listen for heartbeat and all that.  I know some don't, but I thought most do.

  • My OB said they were going to do a sonogram. A little bummed it's not an U/S, but, if I can hear a heartbeat, I'll be besides myself anyways :)

  • An early ultrasound for dating doesn't occur until between 7-9 weeks. A heartbeat would typically be seen by then (you can't hear it until about 12 weeks, the machine creates the beating sound for you before then) and it's the best time for dating the gestational age because babies are the same size at that point.

Just made my first appointment for May 19th! I have no idea what to expect!
  • My first appointment went well!  All they did was take a urine sample, weigh me, take my blood pressure, go over family history, and go over financial information.  My second appointment (which includes a sonogram!!!!) is June 13th.

Just made my appointment - since I don't really think I need a blood test to confirm, my doctor scheduled my first appointment for JUNE 14!!! She didn't want to see me until I was 10-11 weeks. It's so freaking far away!! At least I'll get an ultrasound that visit. Aaaaaaah!! Too far!

I'm 5w3d and having my first scan on 18 may as well! Is this just screening scan? We will have to go back at about 12 weeks I assume for the big check up before we announce.  Is there a need for this first check up as well? I am looking forward to it to make everything seem more real.
