Anterior Placenta Mommas

I'm wondering if other women here with anterior placentas have been feeling movement/kicks yet? I'm 23 weeks and my doctor said it could be until 24 weeks until I really felt the baby move because of placenta location, but it still makes me nervous. Sometimes, I think I might be feeling something, but then I wonder if I'm concentrating so hard I'm just making it up...or maybe it's even just gas. I'm a first time mom, too, so all of this is brand new. How are others with anterior placentas feeling?

Hi there! I totally understand your frustration! This is my second pregnancy and the first time I felt kicks at 18 weeks! I'm now at 23 weeks and feel a few kicks here and there but not consistently like last time. I feel it's easier to identify kicks this go round because I know what to look for and what they feel like. If you think your feeling something, it's probably baby

I'm at 24 weeks and I'm feeling them consistently now. They have definitely gotten stronger over the last several weeks. When I first started feeling movement a few weeks ago, it was only down low, right at my pelvis. Now I feel it higher up and to my right side as well. Hoping you ladies start feeling your LOs move like crazy soon!

I'm 23w tomorrow and I'll feel the baby a few times a day but usually I have to be sitting or laying down to feel anything. And it's always very low down.

I was super bummed to learn that I have anterior placenta this time around (I didn't with my first) but I've been feeling quite a bit of movement lately (I'm 24w5d). This little guy moves A TON and I can really feel it when I'm laying down; some of the nudges and kicks are strong enough that you can see my belly bounce. I've been sending snap chats to DH when he starts bouncing around while I'm at work.  Eventually, your baby will be big enough that even an anterior placenta can't stop him/her from making their presence known!

I'm a FTM at 22w3d with an anterior placenta too. I actually think I felt the baby really low pretty early, like around 17-18 weeks, exactly how other people were describing. Nothing from the outside yet though. It's usually at certain times of the day when I'm sitting quietly or laying down, and it's not constant, but it is getting stronger. It makes me sad that DH can't feel it yet

Hopefully I will feel more within the next week or so! I know from the anatomy scan that baby is butt down, with its feet up by its head and hands, kind of folded in a "V" if that makes sense.

I suspected I had AP and my doctor confirmed it last Friday after my ultrasound. I was relieved, because before that I was really worried about not feeling much! She said (and this was at 21 weeks) that I might not feel anything for a few more weeks. It was crazy to see how much he moved on the ultrasound and not feel a thing. Also I was not a skinny gal before pregnancy so I think having some belly fat contributes to the situation. I am trying to tell myself to just enjoy the peace and quiet down there now, because this baby moves a lot and when I start feeling it, I'm sure I'll be bombarded with kicks.

I'm just over 25 weeks now and have an anterior placenta as well. I've been feeling some movement for the past month, but nothing very consistent. It's usually at night while I'm lying still. Now that he's getting bigger, when I do feel him, it's pretty strong kicks. My DH has only been able to feel him a couple of times, most of the time it's still too soft to feel from the outside.

I'm 23 weeks and have been feeling baby daily for the past week or so. It's mostly when I lay down, and you can feel them from the outside while laying down! I feel occasional kicks while sitting but not as much. My SIL had an AP eith my nephew and she  said she didn't feel movement until 25 weeks, so I guess it varies!

I'm 24w today and I also have an anterior placenta this time.  My anatomy scan was at 19w4d, and the sonographer confirmed that it was anterior.  I had a feeling because I was feeling DD a lot by that point and this time I'd felt maybe flutters, if that.  I told her something similar to what you said that you think you might feel something but weren't sure, and she said at this point if you think you feel something it's more than likely baby.  Then, literally the next day, is when I really started to feel him constantly and it's been getting stronger, more often, and up higher, ever since   Actually, in a 2 hour meeting this morning I was zoning out watching my belly move when he'd kick me.  Best ever!!

22 weeks here with twins and i can barely feel either baby, if that makes you feel any better! Every once and a while I get a slight fluttering feeling and it's typically when I'm laying down. I have only had one kick so far and it shocked me. Was not expecting it. I know they are in there and moving (and kicking each other) because we have seen it on multiple ultrasounds!

I'm in the AP club too I will be 23 weeks on Sunday and I just barely started feeling her. I saw the best description of it on another BMB. It's kind of feels like a bag full of gold fish (like you would get from a county fair) with them bumping up against the bag here and there. I also read that thoughout the day your voice, movement, and food digesting are all things that make baby sleepy. In the middle of the night when you are sleeping is when they are most active. Hang in there, I'm sure you will feel baby soon!

I have an AP and I'm going to be 24w on Saturday. I've been feeling consistent movement for the last few weeks. It's definitely less defined and much lower than it was with DS (I didn't have an AP that pregnancy) but the last 2 weeks I've been able to feel them on the outside, finally. My doctor said with an AP it's normal to not feel much of anything on the outside until 25w, though!

I have an AP and will be 24 weeks on Saturday. I've felt him move fairly consistently from 21 weeks on and the movements keep getting stronger. My doctor said it was normal for women with an AP not to feel anything regularly until 25 weeks but it'll vary for each woman.

At my a/s the tech told me I have an AP, I really started feeling the baby at a little after 20 weeks. Prior to that it was just an occasional flutter. I feel her move when I'm resting or sitting down more so and when she kicks my sides those are pretty strong. Still can't feel much from the outside though, which is a bummer for DH as I'm almost 23 weeks now but I know eventually she'll be strong enough to make a difference. What you feel like is gas or fluttering pretty low is probably the baby. That's what it felt like to me when I first started noticing movement.

I'm 24 weeks also with an anterior placenta. I started feeling movement that I knew for sure was baby around 21-22 weeks. I now feel strong kicks/movements, but can go a half a day or more without feeling anything sometimes. Most of the movement I'm feeling is lower abdomen and my right side.

I'm 22 weeks and started noticing occasional movements low in my pelvis around 18 weeks. I felt like this time I didn't feel as much, so I suspected an anterior placenta and it was confirmed at my ultrasound. I notice good strong movements higher up now periodically but usually only if I'm sitting or laying down.

I'm a FTM at 22 weeks with an anterior placenta.  I started feeling for sure movements around 18 weeks and DH felt a big kick for the first time at 19+4!  I feel most of these kicks up high on my sides and some down low in my pelvis or way above my belly button.  

Last week I didn't feel the kicks consistently which gave me anxiety so I made an emergency appointment with the OBGYN.  They did an U/S and showed the baby moving and kicking a lot, but it was just using the placenta as a pillow so I couldn't feel it.

I'm also a FTM and I didn't start feeling movement until about 23 weeks. Even now at 25 weeks I'm not feeling movement consistently yet. I wish I did (for peace of mind) but my dr said it might be 28 weeks before that happens for me.

I am pretty sure I finally felt some movement last night! I was lying in bed on my left side and could feel some stuff going on. Not like kicks, exactly, but more the sense that the baby was moving/squirming around. I was so excited!

@Snaps816 Yay! I had mistaken mine for gas for weeks before I recently figured it out. I also feel it the most on my left side. How exciting for you!

Within the last week, I've distinctly felt them both move and move a lot. I've even gotten a couple sharp kicks. I'm 23 weeks now and happy to know they are moving around in there. SO still hasn't been able to feel them but hopefully soon.

Found out I have an AP at appointment last week when we were reviewing u/s reports. I had planned on having a repeat c-section instead of trying for VBAC and casually mentioned it to my OB. She seemed like she was holding back a little and said uhhh we'll discuss that later. I googled it (terrible idea) and it said that c-sections can be more complicated with an AP depending on placement. Does anyone have any experience with this? I wasn't sure if maybe she is waiting for my 32 week u/s to confirm placement before making any plans.

At one appointment the US tech said I had AP, but then at my anatomy scan it wasn't. They said it had moved?? Did not know that was possible. Anyone else heard of that?
I first recognized little kicks around 22 weeks I think. Always down low at first. Now at 26 weeks they are all over and I can even see tiny wiggles if I'm looking in the right spot. I was very excited about that because I was afraid it wouldn't happen since I am overweight.

I'm 25 weeks this week and I just started seeing movement from the outside! I was SO excited! I tried to show DH and he said he couldn't tell the difference between the way my belly moves when I talk and when I tell him baby moves. We'll get there!

It is likely that it shifted up.  That does happen!

Oh jeeze.....add this to my list of questions for my next OB appt.  At my last appt we discussed a repeat c/s for the first time, and he didn't say anything about having to worry about my AP.  That said, my scar is sooooo low, I don't think my placenta isn't anywhere near it because that's where I've been feeling and still feel most of the movement.  Even though I have an AP, I'm pretty sure it's up on the higher side - I can distinctly feel the difference now when baby kicks me low vs higher up, it's way stronger down low.  I've also read that it's really not a concern as long as it's not previa or low-lying since the incision is very low and near the cervix.  If it's previa or low-lying then it might put you at risk of having more bleeding having to go through the placenta.

@justaudrey @SkiChic626 I actually asked my MFM specialist this question today, if the anterior placenta would prevent me from having a c section and he said no. Yes there are a few more risks, but it's more common than one thinks.

I asked the same thing at my appointment today and my OB said that the baby is delivered so fast that they just cut right through the placenta sometimes and it is fine. She said it shouldn't prevent me from having a c-section if I ended up needing one.

I have an anterior placenta and I have felt movements since alittle before 19 weeks, my placenta was a cm from my cervix at 19 weeks so now I'm gonna stay nervous til my next ultrasound appointment at 28 weeks praying my placenta moves up for vagina delivery. I'm 24 weeks and I don't feel my baby boy alot, mainly when I'm sitting or laying down.

@tmk0325 @midwestbaby ooh thanks for updating!! My appointment isn't until the end of the month so I planned on following up then. Google can be so terrifying sometimes so I'm glad to hear what your OB said instead of all the worst case scenario situations.

Will the doctor be able to tell baby's position manually with an AP? I feel baby's movement throughout the day but I have no idea if what I'm feeling is his back, leg, etc! and when I feel around on my belly it all feels the same lol.

My midwife was able to tell me at my 28 week appointment that baby was head down. I feel around and I can't tell what's what, but their trained fingers are much better than ours.

I have an AP as well and consistently only feel kicks and movements on my sides. Oddly enough, I feel both sides simultaneously, especially when I'm trying to sleep!! so I kind of assume the baby is transverse. I hope my doctor can tell at my next appointment in a few weeks

STM with AP and felt movement around 19-20 weeks. Felt movement with my first around 16-17 so a little later.

I now know which baby is which (twins) because of where they were on the ultrasound. The doctor told me how they were laying so now it makes more since. I was consistently feeling kicks towards my back/butt and my two sides. Which makes since since they are sitting like a 'T.'

19 weeks my placenta was 11 mm, at 31 weeks the placenta moved up so much I didn't need a vaginal ultrasound yay
