Babymoon?

Is anyone going on a babymoon?  Where are you going?

I am itching for a tropical vacation, but the Zika Virus is really limiting travel.  :(

Re: Babymoon?

  • My 30th birthday is at the end of July. So, it's more of a combined birthday/baby moon trip to NYC. I want to see a few shows and walk around the museums. Things that will be a while before we do alone again.

@MRSCORKER we did a family cruise from Boston to Bermuda about 10 years ago. It's still my favorite vacation! Do it if you can!!
  • MRSCORKER  you probably already know this, but just in case... most cruise lines won't let you cruise after a certain week in pg (20-24 weeks usually).    I thought about Bermuda too.

Yeah, RCI is 24 weeks. We're thinking of going in May so I'll still be early enough.

  • @simcal18 I'm excited for you! When are you going? This is one baby moon I am itching to hear about once you go, I have always wanted to visit Paris.

There are a few different itineraries. I've been on one before that went to Bermuda and then down to the Caribbean. Avoiding that one because of Zika. There is one out of NJ that just goes to Bermuda and one that goes to Bermuda and then Boston (which I thought was weird, but whatevs). I'm only reffering to Royal Caribbean so other cruise lines may have different itineraries.

@AllyTheKid We're going late May/early June assuming that I get the OK from my OB (midwife didn't seem to have a problem with it when we talked with her last month but OB wants to check my placenta before we leave and make sure I move around the plane).  We're doing a day at the French Open because DH is a huge tennis fan but the rest of the time we will be spending walking around the city and museums and generally playing tourist.  I will unfortunately miss out on the wine and soft cheese but fully intend to make up for it by eating all the croissants I can.  OB told me to watch the carbs but I think between all the walking we'll be doing and the fact that it's stinking PARIS I can ease up for a week.   :)

  • @simcal18 Yes, pretty sure a week in Paris is an exception to the carb rule! I would love to just hear everybody talking to one another, french sounds so pretty :) Oh the sights, the sounds, and the smells ♡
  • @simcal18 Eat those croissants, girl. There is no such things as carbs in Paris ;)

You'll have a detailed trip report @AllyTheKid !  I wonder how I'll be asking the servers in Greece:  "is this feta pasteurized?  yes or no?"  hahahaha.  They'll think I'm crazy.
  • We're unintentionally doing a "last hurrah before baby" (I hate the term babymoon  ;)  ) since we won a trip before I was pregnant.  So we'll spend the last part of 2nd tri hiking in Colorado while staying at a gorgeous all-inclusive ranch in the mountains

  • If we do anything, it'll likely be a weekend excursion somewhere local.  Paris and Hawaii sound amazing though - we visited Paris a couple of years ago and enjoyed it!

My MIL & family are headed to Kauai for her 60th birthday, and we so wish we could join.  Unfortunately they're going at the end of October.  Whomp!

  • We were supposed to do Vancouver in March, but we were too nervous about traveling and also still being sick in my first trimester so we cancelled. We're doing a "staycation" at the new Great Wolf Lodge in May for a weekend and one of the days we're doing Disneyland.

We're also doing a little trip to Vegas in May for our anniversary, but that's about it.

  • We had our first Hawaiian vacation planned for the 4th of July, but my overly cautious OB said no and no manner of reasoning could convince my husband to go anyway  :'( So, we canceled and United was gracious and gave us our money back. Instead of sipping virgin piña coladas at the pool, we're hitting up the UP, Michigan for a very different but still lovely beach. I've been sad about it for weeks, but I think my toddler will love the water park hotel we chose and it will still be a nice family getaway (our last with just the three of us) :)

  • @samijrichards which island are you going to?  We just went to the Big Island in January.  Actually, that's where I got pregnant, ha.  It was seriously amazing.  Beach, volcanoes, snorkeling at night with mantas, fooooood.  Best vacation I've ever been on.  You'll have a blast no matter which island you're on!

  • We are going to PA for a concert in July, and I think we're going to make a long weekend of it. My dr said its okay since I'll be about 30 weeks, and it's only about a 3 hour drive from where I live.
  • @simcal18 and anyone else considering Paris, let me know if you want any itinerary recommendations!! I lived there for a few years growing up, some of my closest friends lived there for much longer, and my sister spent six months there last year--happy to PM you my personal "must do" list if you aren't already inundated with ideas!
  • @sidecarsareforbishes I've never been, but it looks like they have a lot of activities and play areas for kids of all ages!

  • @sidecarsareforbishes We are staying at a Great Wolf in Michigan! They are supposed to have a great splash section for toddlers (mine will only be 18 months) and I've heard the lifeguards are very attentive. We started taking DD to splash parks and pools when she was around 6 months old so she is a water baby for sure.

  • @sidecarsareforbishes we haven't decided on an island yet. We were looking into Maui because that's what has been recommended to us so far, but other recommendations are always welcome. We are going in June so we have some time to book the flights. We are doing a 5 day trip, we were just worried about waiting two of those days traveling and recouping. Thoughts?
  • I live down the block from the beach, and with Zika I can't justify doing anything more south. I may just take some time off work and stay home ;)

  • We're going to Vegas in a month! It was already planned before I got pregnant and its mostly paid for my DH's work.  We had a couple of options for his company vacation and the other one we could've done was Mexico.  Since we were TTC, we went the Vegas route and man I'm glad we did!  I'm super excited for lots of time at the pool, a full spa day, cirque du soleil, some nice dinners, and a day at Zion national park.  Plus our hotel room is really nice (at the Venetian).  I've never had much desire to do the party/gambling scene in Vegas, but I'm excited to do relaxing, pregnant Vegas!

  • @samijrichards we are going to Maui tomorrow for 8 days! It's such a beautiful island. It will be DH's first time there and we will be going with the whole family, including our 15m old. Originally not planned as a babymoon but we've sort of been calling it that. ;)

  • @samijrichards If you haven't committed to an island yet, I would definitely recomment Kauai!  It is hands down my favorite place I've ever been.  I've been to Maui too and it's wonderful, but I have a special place in my  heart for Kauai.  Granted, I did go to Maui in high school so I don't remember it quite as well.  Kauai is just a little less built up and there's so much natural beauty everywhere.

I second this!  Kauai is absolutely breathtaking, and although it's started to build up recently, in my opinion, it's less tourist-y (not a word) than the other islands.  There is still tons to do, the food is amazing, and I've seriously never been anywhere more beautiful in my life.  We've visited the island 4 times now, and we're totally bummed we're missing out this year (in-laws have a vacation property there).  If you have any questions, I'm more than happy to provide details!
