I scanned through the Board organization thread to see who was supposed to start this today.
Don't want to step on toes, but the board is kinda ....

Let's hear your UOs.

  • I don't really ever have many UO. I am due right around Thanksgiving and I am ok if I miss thanksgiving dinner. I have never liked the food. I don't care for turkey, I don't like the cranberry stuff, I hate my moms stuffing, and I don't like pie of any kind, especially pumpkin. However that week is deer hunting and I am bummed I will miss it and depending on how I feel I may actually go sit and hunt for a bit. We hunt in a farming area and it would be easy for someone to come get me at my stand and its only 40 minutes from my hospital but there is a hospital a few minutes into town if needed.

  • I don't like Beyoncé. I don't like her music, she drives my nuts during interviews. I just don't get the appeal.
OMG yes. Finally. Everyone talks about her incredible voice and I just don't connect with it at all. She is totally average in my mind with her music. People treat her like she's this earth shattering, ground breaking musician and she is a pop performer. I remember back when Destiny's Child was big and her and the other two were being interviewed about letting the original 2/5 members go and she was suuuuuch a major b*tch about it. They pretty much started getting popular and kicked them out and then bragged about it in the most obnoxious, superior way.
  • @HomeyDontPlayThatI totally agree with you. DH is really good about this and holding doors open. I always give my seat up to a Mom or an elderly person if necessary.

My UO is that I don't understand the need to spend a ton of money on name brand handbags. Some of my girlfriends do this and I don't get it. I guess I don't care enough about what my purse looks like to spend hundreds of dollars on a name. I could afford to do so, but it's not something that is important to me at all. I have a few MK and Coach items that I've received as gifts from my Mom and MIL which is really generous, but they almost make me uncomfortable to carry around. I usually buy from H&M or Aldo, whatever is cute and cheap.

  • @banfrog Im totally with you on this. I was never taught Santa Clause was real as a kid and I dont think it ruined anything for me. It was always explained to me like he was the spirit of Christmas, but not some real guy. Same goes for the Easter bunny and tooth fairy. My husband kind of wants to teach our DD to believe in the myth but Im not super excited about that idea and hoping to talk him out of it. I guess the only thing would be I wouldn't want my kid to be the one going around telling other peoples kids Santa wasn't real.

I agree with this in that buying exclusively name brand is snobbish. You can score cute and fashionable in some of the cheapest places possible. However, I will defend a little bit of name brand buying. I saved and waited to get my leather Marc Jacobs because it's truly superior quality and will last the longest time. I have got the cheaper ones and the fraying, coming apart, general aging is frustrating. It's a lot of work finding the right bag. Sometimes it's worth investing in. I don't like it when the brand is blared ALL OVER THE BAG. It's trashy to me, which is kind of the opposite effect it's supposed to be going for.

This is a way to make a woman a walking billboard. There is literally no design here. Be subtle!

  • @EDK2010 So I have a Kate Spade addiction. Guilty. I blame my MIL since she got me started. It's really not about the name for me as much as it is the quality and I love their style. I totally get your point though. It's really not my favorite quality in myself.

My UO is I loathe olives on pizza. You can't pick them off! The flavor soaks into the cheese! I could just sit down and eat a can of black olives though. Nom. I just hate them when they're cooked.

I used to hate hate HATE thanksgiving food. Then I was very pregnant during thanksgiving one year, I believe it was one week before she was born, and I tell you that was the best meal I had ever had. Since then I'm a changed woman! I'm even the one who cooks it all now.
  • I'm with you @KilgraveMadeMeDoIt.  I think of it as photo-op parenting. I've known parents who have bought 'smash cakes' for first birthdays and smashed the cake in their child's face for a cute picture.  Some people are more interested in the photo then just enjoying the memory as it happens.
  • I know I'm going to make some of y'all clutch some pearls with this one, but I still believe it's polite to give a lady your seat if you're a dude. It's how I was raised, it's what I believe, I think it's super rude to not do this. Especially for elderly women or pregnant women. I do believe they get special treatment, it's a sign of respect.
Ever since I was pregnant with DS, I have believed that men should always give up their seat for women and this is why: you have no idea if that woman is pregnant.  I actually need that seat 500% more during first tri than 3rd tri.

  • Really @EmmieAnn22 wow LOL.  I did the smash cake thing but she had no interest in putting her face in it or even smooshing it lol.  I let her do what she wanted which was simply to put her finger in it and poke it lol.  It was very cute and not "setup" at all.  In fact we did it privately, not at her party.

I can respect saving up for a bag that you really want and I do agreed that you get what you pay for when it comes to quality. But yeah the walking billboard is so NMS! You're essentially paying a ton of money to promote a brand.

@SRose109 I can see finding something that you like and staying brand loyal. Kate Spade does have great style.

  • My UO is that I hate, hate, hate (did I mention hate?) those shady pyramid scheme companies & their products that some of my mommy friends hack.

I'm talking Advocare, Younique, Jamberry, etc. I understand you're trying to make an extra buck as a SAHM but honestly, if I had even the slightest interest in it, I'd reach out to you first about it, as you post it all over Facebook anyway so it's hard to miss.

I think the concept of the companies are shady as hell and I have found most of the products to be of poor quality anyway. NO THANKS. And quit asking me when I've declined multiple times already. Ugh.

I think this is a pretty popular opinion.
A few months after I had my son, I had posted on FB about being 8 lbs away from losing my baby weight and how good I felt. A friend of my husbands that he went to school with made a big deal about it, super nice and supportive - he even friend requested me. Next thing I know, I'm blown up with messages about some effing (I don't even remember wtf) pyramid scheme weight loss thing that him and wife sell. It was the shadiest shit I'd ever had pulled on me. Like how rude can you get? What a terrible segue.
  • My UO is that I started liking Bieber's music with the release of his last CD.  I didn't buy it but I'm obsessed with Love Yourself, Sorry, and What Do You Mean.  It didn't even hit me until one day I realized that every time one of those songs came on the radio I would raise the volume <bows her head in shame>.

It's so strange because I was totally anti-bieber before LOL

Yes! I used to hate Bieber so much, but I do really like the new stuff. Sorry is one of my favorite songs right now. I've seen him in concert twice and both times were for free. Once with Big Brothers Big Sisters so it was sponsored and the other time was as the halftime show at the Grey Cup (also free tickets). I wore ear plugs and thought he was boring.

my UO is that I think starbucks is disgusting. Its bitter, tasteless, and too expensive! I'm also not down with them for political reasons but that's my stuff and not something I feel others need to agree with. But, I do think people should agree it's gross. Because it is. I will make anyone a pot of freshly ground coffee and dare them to taste that side by side with starbucks and still want to drink that stuff. blech!
  • Like @m6agua I don't have much in terms of UO's, but like @HomeyDontPlayThat pointed out, this board is kinda...dare I say it...lame. I wish we had more involvement on things like the daily posts, siggy challenge, etc. I miss that about TTGP (and that's probably why I still lurk it way more than I should). I also wish folks would read the board organization post, I feel like we're getting a lot of clutter that could be easily added to the daily threads (instead of starting a new thread).

  • @HomeyDontPlayThat agree about chivalry. I intend to ingrain this in my son. Courtesy leads to respect which leads to better relationships with women which leads to better human relationships.

I feel mixed about bags. I like fashion, a lot. The vast majority of my bags though are cheap or second hand. But I took my first bonus and bought myself a name brand purse for $800 and it felt amazing and it's still the thing I love the most of all my clothing 10 years later.

TTGP is a long established board. This is a new community that started, what, 6 weeks ago?. Don't force it. It'll happen organically. No board is fire right from the get go. Unless it's a drama board, which I'm very happy this is not.

On that note though, did anyone else notice that there were comments on a new post titled something like, "Hi i'm new and here are my symptoms", kindly directing the poster to read the organization rules. And, then suddenly those comments were gone?

I literally have about 20+ acquaintances on FB that post several times a day about their products that worked so great for this person in this picture.
  • @EDK2010 haha! I had a roommate in college who had a phobia of all condiments, she seriously would run away from ketchup.

That was supposed to be a reply about men giving ups seats but apparently wasn't.
  • Oh just to clarify, I couldn't care less about board organization. I was just curious how posts that were there, then we're not. Something curious is going on.....
  • hate board games. I don't know if this is just a midwestern thing, because I don't recall it being this way growing up in the south, but all of our friends up here are obsessed with them, constantly buying new ones and inviting everyone over for game nights. I've repeatedly made H turn down invitations (or told him to go by himself), and I feel kinda bad about being anti-social, but GAHH can we really not find something else to do? Our small group from church recently had a "fun" night where we played Extreme Uno (just Uno with a bunch of extra rules), and I think it was the first time anyone in that group has seen me legitimately fuming with anger. Ugh, I just hate 'em.

Oh, except Scattergories... I do love Scattergories.
  • @stepamos that poor girl. I like just about every condiment other than mayo. No fear of ketchup here!

  • @grannysmith912 - I love board games, but if you hate them so much, I definitely don't think you should be guilty about turning down game night invites.  When we're hosting game nights, I really don't mind people who don't like games skipping... In fact, I prefer it. And then I make a point not to invite them to future ones (while inviting them to other things) and assume they don't mind not getting the invite.

  • @rspalding001 My kids are still young and haven't noticed yet. We just don't make a big deal about the mythical figures.
  • @Thewizardofrhythm I don't like the taste of starbucks either. I don't get how it's so popular.

Another UO (not UP). I am sooo done with this board organization topic. People aren't posting because the PSA thread, they aren't posting because we don't have that many people and a lot of people tend to wait for their first appointments to join. Also not everyone will post like a "regular". The PSA thread isn't overkill, its created a guideline to start with to help get conversations going and a place for them to start. People are still posting things that probably could fit in a designated tread and it hasn't been a big deal. I don't get why people are still complaining about it?
