I HATE common names. I love the name Harper, but with it being in the top 20 right now its not an option. All girl names sound way too feminine for my taste. So lets hope it's not a girl, or I guess she will be doomed to be made fun of her entire life.
You mention you like Harper- what about Harlow for a girl? Not super feminine, but leaps better than Motley or Milo (Mila would also be a good alternative).
You know there are names outside the top 20 right? How about looking at the top 1,000 list and only look at 700-1000. Or look at lists from other countries. You will find some gorgeous names that are real female names and not common around here.
I'm having a boy, but my girl choice was Marlena. You cannot call that common- it doesn't crack the top 1,000 list. Yet it's #85 in Poland.

Totally agree. My daughter is Giada uncommon not overly femine yet it's a girl name. There are lots of uncommon names out there.
I have looked at the bottom of the top 1000, most are just weird spellings of boring names. I fail to see how Giada is more feminine than Motley. And it is a REAL name, it's on all the baby name sites. I don't really care if everyone hates my kids name, I was just curious to get a poll result, that obviously isn't going to happen.
Flora is pretty and I can even handle Indigo but Motley is atrocious. Even if you're the world's biggest Motley Crue fan naming your daughter Motley is cruel and immature.
There are plenty of female names to choose from that are not super girly. I don't understand what's so bad about being a girl though.
I don't like Motley Crue at all, Motley means being of different colors combined. And there is nothing wrong with being a girl, I just like more unisex names.
Just because it is on these random baby name sites does not mean it is a real name. If it's not on behindthename.com which has real data, it is not a real name to me. And honestly, the meaning of Motley is just cruel to slap on a little girl. It comes from the outfit that court jesters/fools would wear.

Yes it's completely mind boggling how an Italian female name is more feminine than Motley which as stated isn't a real name just because somewhere on the internet says so. I stated it wasn't overly feminine but hearing or seeing definitely says female.
It's true, OP. These names are really bad. I don't think people are trying to be negative. I just think people are speaking up to let you know what the general population would think. Personally, I would be so mad at my mother if she had named me one of the names from your list. I'm all for unisex names, but I don't see any on your list.
I definitely only think of Motley Crue or a motley fool when I hear Motley.
Indigo is a bookstore chain in Canada so that's all I think of. I know its a colour but it sounds flaky. Like a stripper name or a hippie name.
Sorry but I also couldn't vote. I know you aren't interested in suggestions but I lurk on this board all the time (baby names are fun!) and there are some serious name experts here! I am sure if you asked for some suggestions with the criteria you have mentioned they could come up with some great alternatives

Honestly, you should just go with what you love. Im not sure if everyone's pregnancy hormones make them meaner or if you all just feel more comfortable attacking people from behind a computer but it is an embarrassment to women how you all treat each other. A simple "not really my style" or "I prefer more traditional names" would get the same point across.
Also, just an FYI from someone who works in HR and has been a recruiting mgr for years, we are smart enough to know that a candidate didn't name themselves. I have seen resumes with what I believe are very odd names however, as a professional I should be hiring based off skills not a name so that argument is nonsense! I see applications from people in other countries with names I can't even begin to figure out how to pronounce on a daily basis and if they are the best person for the job they are hired!
I think Milo or Apollo are fine names for a boy. As for your girl names, I like Indigo the best. I know someone that named her daughter that. I don't see an issue with it.

Ignoring your insulting idea that pregnancy hormones have anything to do with my distaste for these names... As a business owner, I can tell you that any candidate would have to posess some incredibly impressive skills to overcome a name like that. It can make for an extremely poor first impression.
Well I would prefer it be a hormone imbalance than just it just be your normal personally to be so rude!
Also, I believe the original post said that they were not looking for comments and since their isn't an option for "none of the above" you probably should've just moved on.

That's not how The Bump works. It states clearly in TOU that one cannot dictate the responses to their post.
I have worked in recruiting for 5 years, and I have never once been like, oh that's a dumb name I'm not calling them! haha so I get where you are coming from! The entire reason for this post is because I'm not set on any name yet. And I realize I duplicated Apollo, the second one was supposed to be Arlo. Which is a front runner. Flora is set as a middle name for a girl tho. Luckily we have some time! We are really picky, and when I find something the hubby will veto most...

I'm assuming this was another boy option. It's not my style, but fine. What about variations on Arlo for a girl name? Marlo, Carla, Alba
Lol they probably thought they were dealing with kind soon to be mothers when they wrote that.... Little did they know...
Telling someone they don't like a name for X reason is not rude.
Insulting other posters is rude. The bolded makes me angry because I feel like it is one step away from the disgusting comments some posters like to make.
OP, I love odd, unusual and interesting names but these are...not good. The only online reference that I would trust in terms of naming etymology (ie. The history of a name and therefore its validity as a name) is Behind the Name. User submitted names on there aren't as thoroughly researched, though so keep that in mind.
If you like unisex names, that's perfectly fine but most of the names you picked for girls aren't actually unisex. There are some great unisex names out there so I'd advise you keep looking. Negative opinions, whilst hard to hear are actually a good barometer of how people will respond to your choices. If the opinions on here are overwhelmingly negative then you, as a parent, maybe need to examine that.
Re: Name Poll!
Milo is masculine
flora is lovely
Apollo is trying to sound cool Arlo would be nice
indigo is also bad and says I want to sound hip
Don't like any of your girl options but if I really had to choose, I guess Indigo.

"As an adjective, it is generally disparaging.."
Seriously, though, check this list and see if there's something you like. Uncommon doesn't have to mean "well, here's an adjective"

Would you consider Mila for a girl? Or making Flora the first name?
I do like Milo for a boy though!
That's not how an Internet forum works.
First, sex=/=gender.
Second, I wish there was an option for "none of the above" because I can't vote off your list.
Flora is a beautiful feminine name.

Motley is just bad. It has a real pirate vibe to it. Arrr, all hands to port, ye biscuit eating bilge rats!
