    Geez, all of you must have doctors that are easy to get in to!

    I called yesterday to make my first OB appointment and the earliest I could get in with ANYONE was June 3. Seriously. I'd be almost done with the 1st tri at that point!

    The gal that scheduled it said that she would put a note in to the OB nurse to see if I could get in any earlier, but if I don't hear anything in a week, I am calling back. I made it known that this was my first, and since I had no idea what was going on with my body... I would hope I wouldn't have to wait until I'm 12 weeks along! She said they don't normally see patients until 10-13 weeks, which to me... seems like a LONG time. So much can happen, and will happen, between now and then. Is that normal?? I waited to call as I was debating OBs/hospitals, and now I wonder if I would have been able to get in sooner picking the other one in my city.

    I went and saw my GP last week to ask some questions and get some OB referrals, but they didn't confirm the pregnancy... I just have with HPTs. I just want to know that my baby is growing and developing like it should be... and not have to wait until JUNE to find that out. That's a long time from now.

  • @Kacie209 No harm in calling the other practice to make an appt if you aren't picky about your doctor. It isn't wrong to attend an appt at both offices either - you are seeing which practice is the best fit. But the other practice doesn't need to know that.

    I don't think insurance would say anything - anyone know?

  • With my previous pregnancies I never went in before 8 weeks. My last pregnancy they did betas but no real appointment because of a previous ectopic and bleeding. It resulted in a m/c so this time my first appointment is this upcoming Tuesday and I will be just over 5 weeks.
  • I've seen the ob once already for an initial thing and to get scripts for dating u/s and blood work. Dr didn't believe me when I though I conceived so he scheduled me an u/s at four weeks. Didn't see anything. No kidding, dude. So I had another u/s yesterday for an accurate date. Next ob appointment is 4/26 and I'll be 8 weeks.

    @em01092I have Hashimotos as well!!! I'm not on a very high dose but so far neither my specialist or GP has mentioned monitoring my levels! :/ let me know how the monitoring goes!!
    @R0824H
    Apparently there is a link between low TSH/ the thyroid antibodies (only for folks with Hashimotos) and miscarriages, as well as potential birth defects and decreased cognitive function. If you think about it, your medication now has to be "enough for two" in a way, so I guess it makes sense. What dose are you on? My thyroid is completely non functioning. I would maybe run it by your endocrinologist just to see what he/she thinks? How often are you being monitored now? I was going every 3-6 months. Also I found this link about it:

    How is Hashimoto's disease treated during pregnancy?

    During pregnancy, you may need to see both your OB/GYN and an endocrinologist (en-doh-krih-NOL-uh-jist), a doctor who treats people with hormone problems. Levothyroxine is safe to use during pregnancy and necessary for the health of the baby. Women with Hashimoto's disease or an underactive thyroid who are taking levothyroxine before pregnancy may need a higher dose to maintain normal thyroid function. Thyroid function should be checked every 6 to 8 weeks during pregnancy. After you have your baby, you will likely go back to your pre-pregnancy dose.

    I went for my first blood draw today and go back for the appointment next Friday the 22nd. After this initial appointment, I'll just go in, get blood drawn, and he'll call me with results so I don't have to pay for an office visit every time (because that would get $$$).

    First appointment was lab work, dos and don'ts, and scheduling appointments for the next 5 months. Next appointment is at 8 weeks when we get our first US- hoping for good lab results in the meantime
  • My first appointment is with a NP 4/22 at 6w to confirm pregnancy. Receptionist said it would just be a pelvic, urine test, and maybe blood test. This is a new practice so I haven't picked an OB or Midwife yet. With DS I didn't get to go in until I was 8w, with no u/s until 12w. I'll have to ask next week when I get my first one this time.
