Tylenol tips

so my lo got his 4 month shots yesterday and now has a fever of 100.9. Per what the dr has said we have been giving him Tylenol every 4 hours. He hates it :( we use the syringe and I try to put it in his cheek but he spits a lot out. Any advice on how to get him to keep it down?

Re: Tylenol tips

  • The inexpensive Safety First health/grooming kits come with a very tiny bottle in it where you can add the medicine and baby takes it just like they would a bottle.  That works very well for my daughter.  You could also try putting the correct dosage into the nipple of a regular bottle and giving it to them that way.
If there's something strange underneath the hood.  Who you gonna call?  Your Doctor.  If there's something weird and it don't look good.  Who you gonna call?  Your Doctor.  Immediately.  If it's new, painful, and possibly pregnancy related get your ass off the internet and call your doctor.  It's for your health and your child's.

  • We gave her a pacifier right after and it helped it not dribble out!
  • We don't squirt all of it at once, we give lo the dose in about 3 squires, it helps reduce the amount pushed back out

We have the same issue. It doesn't matter how little we give LO spits it out. The only thing I have found it work is this little medicine bottle. It takes forever but I can get LO to take all of it.

We use this same little bottle. We mix milk with the medicine. Jordan takes it every time, especially if she is hungry when it's given.
  • I've found the only way to get LO to take Tylenol (or gas drops or gripe water...) is to have him lay flat on his back(makes it more difficult for him to spit it out) and squirt a little in his mouth at a time. After each squirt I blow lightly on his face to trigger his swallow reflex.
  • My LO has reflux and one of the meds he takes tastes absolutely nasty. We had a huge problem with him spitting most of it out, until I started squirting a third of the syringe in at a time and following each squit with boob right away (before he has time to react). If you don't breastfeed, maybe make s bit of formula and try that.

I did it as far back on her cheek as I could get without feeling like I was gonna choke her, then popped a boob in her mouth immediately after.  It helps to have a lot of experience giving pills to cats (though they got tuna, not boob, LOL)

Suddenly the Meet the Fockers movie with cat milking comes to mind.  lol.

  • I use a regular bottle to give gripe water and will probably do the same for tylenol. They also make medicine pacifiers you could try.
  • Thanks so much everyone! Lots of tips to try :)
