Is it ok to put baking soda in the diaper pail?

We use a flip top trash can and a planet wise pail liner.  Should I just put it in the trash can below the liner?  I don't really think it smells too much but every once in a while you can smell it when you walk by.  We are currently staying at my parents while DH is deployed and my mom asked if there was something we could use.

I was thinking about an EO too but I have no idea where I can buy it.

TIA!

  • I have a box  of baking soda in the bottom of the trash can, under the pail liner.

Some pail liners also have a little fabric tab where you can put a couple drops of essential oils. Heathfood stores, WF, etc have essential oils. You can also order online, but I'd try the healthfood stores firs.t

  • Shouldn't be a problem.  I have Diaper Dust and we sprinkle it in the pail and it works pretty well at keeping stinkies at bay and doesn't affect laundering.  I currently have Pixy Dust which is nice if you like the scent of Cloves.  I can't recall the other scent I have - something very baby-like.  Both have been great.

You can get EO online through drugstore.com and many other sites.  I have gotten EO in person at organic markets.

  • i also use diaper dust.  i use vinegar in my prerinse to make sure the pH is balalanced/
  • rockin green has a powder for that too.  I sprinkled a bunch of baking soda in the bottom of the garbage below the liner.  I don't think baking soda is supposed to get on the actual diapers.
