Does everyone else already have a name?

we were team green with DD and this time we found out we are having a boy thinking it would help us decide a name. Well with only 9 weeks left until my RCS I'm kind of panicking that we still don't have a name for him. Am I the only one who still has no name for their LO??

Re: Does everyone else already have a name?

  • I've had a first name picked out since before I was pregnant, but my husband and I simply CANNOT agree on a middle name. I'm convinced we'll have to make something up on the spot!
  • Loading the player...
  • I have just under 9 weeks left to go, and we still haven't chosen a name yet either.  We have narrowed it down to a short list, but we can't seem to commit to anything yet.
  • You're not alone! We are stumped on boy names, DH is so indecisive! I've told him we will make a top 3 list to go to the hospital with. Some names I like but they just don't "feel right" I don't know why. I feel like I know my sons personality already and some names just don't stick for me.
  • I will be 34 weeks on Thursday and we are team green..we just decided on a girls name last week and the boy's name is totally up in the air still!!!
  • We think we have one... But haven't told anyone and won't until she is born. We still call her baby, and if we see her and the name doesn't fit, well, she'll just be nameless because we haven't agreed on anything else
  • We pretty much decided on the name as soon as we found out the sex. We picked something we both agreed on when we found out, used it in conversation and stuff for a few days just to see how it sounded, and it just stuck. Now I couldn't imagine it being anything else. Plus DH has already made up a few cute nicknames revolving around it which I'm sure made us even more attached to the name. :)
  • We've narrowed it down to two option and are about 95% sure which one is THE ONE but we won't officially decide until we meet her. Even though we are basically decided I just need to be able to change my mind and want to make sure it feels right after she is born.
  • DH has gone back and forth with the name we picked out. He seems to be back on board as of a couple days ago, though I wouldn't be surprised if he changed his mind again!
  • We just decided on a first name yesterday but have no clue on the middle name with 8 weeks to go till EDD. This is girl #3 and it seemed so much harder to come up with a name this time since I wanted something that "goes" with out other daughters names.
  • We do, but I have three pregnant friends all due in May-June without names picked. I worked in a hospital years ago and there were several moms who couldn't decide on a name to be discharged, so don't panic!

Well thank you all! It makes me a bit less anxious to know I'm not alone!!

  • Random quote box. Huh.
We have our #1 pick (Luna) but if something happens and we suddenly hate the name when we see her, we are going with Ruby as our 2nd choice. If the U/S were wrong and we end up having a boy, we will go with either Toby or Giorgio (not my favorite, but it is a family name for MH). While I am glad we have a few names in the wings just in case, I can't imagine either a) having a boy or b) not loving the name Luna. It just feels right

  • We had girl and boy names picked our before we even got pregnant, but we had a long time to discuss it. The only thing we didn't have was the boy's middle name, which we now have. :)

@laurenmdrn16 If we had a girl her middle name was going to be Ruby.

  • We are team green and do not have a name picked out for either gender. I know what boy's name I want, but DH is against it.

With my son, we didn't have a name until the day I left the hospital! We couldn't leave without it...DH played the long game and he got the name he wanted. I'm sticking to my guns this time! lol

  • We've only recently agreed on our name for our second boy. It took forever to decide as we used the one we loved for our first son. It seems to be sticking but could easily change after we meet him.

  • yep, team Green here, and no name for a boy or a girl.  Lately DH hasn't been too keen on any of my suggestions, so I'm going to plan a date night, and he has to bring 3 boy and girl choices - so we have something to discuss!  I am fine with having a short list on delivery day - I also like to see baby before we name him/her.

  • We've had a first name locked down for a while now. We've been calling him that name and our close family and friends know it too (completely different from DD when we didn't tell ANYONE except my best friend who helped come up with it). Middle names we're still up in the air. Thinking about my DH's middle name Louis, but we also really like Reid. I'm leaving it up to my DH, though I kind of hope he picks Reid. Shhh!

  • We have one possible name for our baby girl, but we're not 100% sold on it. However, we can't come up with something we like better. So, she might just end up with that name, by default. I know, I know....not exactly an inspiring "How did I get my name?" story.
  • We have had our name picked out for awhile for our daughter, but before we found out her gender, we realized we couldn't agree on a single boy name. In terms of gender I would have been happy either way, but I was very relieved from a naming standpoint when we found out she was a girl.

If we were having a boy I'm pretty sure we still wouldn't have a set name.

The bump ate the rest of my post of course so here it is...

We can't seem to agree on anything. He likes Bryce and I do not. I like Dylan and he does not. We know his middle name will be Richard after late FIL but that's all we've got. Our last name is very long and starts with a B which is why I'm so against Bryce. Well that and I just don't like it. Lol. And we need something that goes well with Faith because that's DDs name. Sigh. The struggle is real. Names are hard.

  • I feel ya. Most of the names that H and I agree on I only just have lukewarm feelings about. Also, he likes the idea of having two boys who go by names that end in ie (DS1 goes by Artie) and I do not like that idea.

I just remember how much I loved Arthur/Artie and I want to feel that again. It fits our son so well. Funny thing is we didn't come up with that name until about this time too.

  • We hemmed and hawed over names until viability day (24 weeks I believe) because we agreed that since, if he was born early, he would live outside me for however long, he deserved a name. His middle name is variable depending on if he comes near his due date or the classic late by 8. If he comes late by 8 then he'll be born on the one year anniversary of my gramma dying and my whole family is sure that this LO is a gift from her, so we would change his middle name to my grammas maiden name.
  • We're team green and still no name picked out. I have a list for both boy names and girl names, but DH has not looked at any. He figures we have "plenty of time" and is in no rush.

  • I think we're good on the first name, but middle name has been giving us trouble. Today my husband texted that his boss (Don) wants to buy us a car seat, so I jokingly responded, "the middle name should be Dawn!" Then immediately realized I actually really like it, it flows with the first and last really well. So now I'm pissed because I think it would be a great fit, but would be weird to actually do the middle name after his boss. So the struggle continues...
  • We're team green and have a girl's name but not a boy's yet. There was one boy name we liked, so we googled it with our last name and it apparently also belongs to some famous British actor. We don't want our kid hearing people point out they have the same name his entire life, so it's off the table.

Does anyone else wish they could get to know their kid for at least a couple weeks before picking out a name? I worry we'll pick one out that will end up not fitting their personality at all.
  • No name here either. Wish we had one figured out. We went over the baby name list this weekend and my husband was all proud we narrowed it down to 26! I was hoping for more progress than that.  Of that 26 he pointed out a name and I just for the first time feel like that might be THE ONE. But yeah no real decision yet.

  • DH still refuses to even broach the subject of names. There is always "something" that needs to be done first. The latest thing was moving, which we did on March 12. I waited a whole week after moving to bring it up, and he still says he's not ready to talk about it. wtf.
  • We have ours, but DH and I were just out to dinner with my FIL last night and he told us that he and my MIL didn't decide anything with their children (team green with all three) until they were at the hospital! I still have the worry that our own LO won't look like the name that we've chosen, but there is a second name we agree on at the moment so hopefully we could just go with that...naming is such a challenge!

We're having a girl, and the only thing that's decided is her MN.  She would have a first name if DH didn't hate my favorite; our current list is at 17 plus 3 name variants.

  • I only have a few weeks left and no name.  I'm sure it'll come to us once she's here.
  • We're team green and have a couple of potential first names picked out for each but are still undecided. All are compromises for me because hubby vetoed my favorites. We have two possible girl middle names, but have decided on Robert if it's a boy.

Equally frustrating is that we also need to decide on the last name. We plan to hyphenate but are unsure which name should be first (we both use our original last names only). And we might have another kid so we're trying to figure out what sounds best in general and not just for the first (yet unnamed) baby. It's a lot of pressure! Sigh.

We have no name picked out yet and not even a short list.

I feel weird about talking about names or picking one out before the baby is born - like I'm jinxing something by discussing it. So, we'll likely narrow down the list to a few while I'm in labor and then pick the name out sometime between birth and discharge.

@st3lla - Hard to say without knowing what the names are, but I would vote go alphabetically. Until marriage I had an S name growing up, and it always put me so far back towards the end of things every time anything was done alphabetically. I was so jealous of the kids with last names in the front end of the alphabet!
  • You're not alone.... I'm starting to panic!! We just can't seem to find a name we love!

Growing up I had an A first name and last name so no matter which was used I was always a "First" or always sitting in the front of the class when they set the desks up alphabetically. I was quite shy and really hated it.  lol

  • Here to help @NB817! I totally agree with you on not liking Bryce, but that's likely because of this French character/movie. Just find the movie with English subtitles and that should be enough to change his mind ;)

We were lucky I guess to have had plenty of time to think about it. Last year, we drove down to Florida for Christmas, which meant 24hrs in the car within less than twonfeet of each other. So we had made a short list of our favourites for both boy and girl, and even managed to pick out a #1 we agreed on. We had more issues with choosing the spelling- Eliott vs Elliot vs Elliott. We ended up deciding (this was confirmed last night) on Eliott so we can use 'Eli' for short. Also, there's an awesome series of french books called Eliott, and I argued that it'd suck to get him a whole book collection with his name written 'wrong'. I won :) DH couldn't care less about picking a middle name, so he sort of left that up to me. I was hesitating for a long time (between a family name on DH's side, which DH wasn't too excited about, and another random/sounds good name).
  • We're all set. It's funny we have talked names before getting pg but none of the names we talked about previously are what we decided to go with. Ever since the day we both said her name it stuck. It just seems like it fits. Can't wait to meet my Harper Rose!

I had thought of this point and DH didn't really get it - so glad to hear it makes sense to others too! My last name starts with an H and his with an N, so not a huge difference, but still might be a good rationale for putting mine first if we can't think of any other reason.

@yogahh - one of our possible girl middle names is Rose, after my great grandma. I love it, it's so pretty! But then we'll be skipping my mom's family tradition of giving every girl either Marie or Anne as the middle name. Oh well, might be time to move beyond tradition.
