Re: April FET buddies

  • For those of you ladies who are close to FET, how long were you on Estrogen/Estrodial?  I am going in on the 4th for my protocol and concerned that my travel schedule could be tough to work around.

  • @Rachnan  I think it really depends on the person and the protocol. With my first FET, it was a short protocol, so I prepped for 1 week with it and then started it again 2 weeks before transfer. This time, I am doing long protocol and I started it on 3/15 and will continue until I have my beta on 4/15.

  • Thanks for the responses!  I spoke to the REs office this morning and they want me on BCP for 2 weeks (already a week in), then I come in and discuss protocol.  They'll take me off BCP and do baseline on day 3 and get moving.  I'm just really concerned because I'm traveling quite a bit, but they said they'd work around that!

  • @Rachnan, I think there are a zillion different protocols, but it sounds like your doctor can make it work with you. I was originally planning to do my FET in December, but my Vitamin D levels pushed that out a cycle. I was going to be out of town for the baseline u/s and the clinic gave me a referral that I could take to basically any RE my insurance covers to do the preliminary bloodwork and u/s. So that may be an option, too!

@halips, you're only a few days behind me! I'm also a little jealous -- your beta is the day after mine. I continue to inject pregnyl 3 more times on my protocol -- I triggered Saturday, but then I take it sub-q on Wednesday and twice more after my transfer before the beta. And of course, I'll POAS every day after the last one and hopefully watch it fade and come back, because I'm neurotic like that.

I'm not having any of the physical symptoms that I was kind of expecting between the PIO and estrogen and trigger, but the emotional ones are all going on. I'm definitely more weepy (and I was already pretty weepy!)  I think my temper is shorter, since I'm usually super even-keeled and  lately, I'm really annoyed by stuff that wouldn't normally bug me.

Physically, my PIO injection sites are sore, though the heat this morning definitely helped! Still, I can definitely feel where it was today and still yesterday, too. One friend's wife had twins through IVF a few years ago, and she said that the PIO was the worst part of it all. I'm inclined to agree, but I'll keep looking for a way to make it easier. Like a selfie stick for injectables, for hard to reach places? I could make a million dollars! Nobody steal my idea! :)

mela615  - you are getting so close! I have been doing accupuncture once a week since the end of Feb. I figured with insurance coverage, why not. I don't really feel any different but I'm looking at it like I am trying to hedge my bets. lol. Plus it's pretty relaxing so I could definitely use that!

  • The past few days have been extremely stressful. Good news is that I'm finally moving forward. Outside of that my dh and I have been going through some really stressful, unrelated situations. He has really come through and has stayed calm when I wasn't.  I have tried to stay strong when he's been working through his situation.  (He has a big decision to make very soon) So life has been about everything but the upcoming FET.
I had my bloodwork and ultrasound yesterday and was told to start taking Estrace last night.  I actually picked up most of my meds in September when insurance finally approved ivf. I was not familiar with the names of the meds and I had not received info about needing any additional  meds to get started.  I was out the entire day dealing with my situation.  I haven't been sleeping well and had been going non stop,  so I have been exhausted. When I was given instructions to start the estrace,  I assumed it was one of the meds I had at home.  I finally got home exhausted and hungry at 9 pm after a rough day. Dh was heating up food while I was going to take the medication and then shower.  That's when  I realized that I never been contacted to get that medication and I didn't have it. Usually if its something new the nurse will give a heads up that she's calling it in. I finally just broke down. I have been worried about something else delaying the transfer.(I've has one obstacle after another for the past  1 1/2 years)  I called the answering service for the fert. center and a dr was able to send the prescription to a 24 pharmacy.  Luckily this medication did not had to be filled at the specialty pharmacy, so I was able to get it in time! Unfortunately it ended up being another late night.

I am feeling much better emotionally. Of course the situation with the medication was just the icing on the cake after a really rough day. Today was much better.  I'm not feeling great physically,  but in much better spirits. I've been surprisingly strong throughout this whole process. This was one of the first times dh took an active role in being supportive/helpful and our stressful situations didn't create stress between us. He just so calm while I was freaking out. At least my horrible few days had a happy ending.
  • LynnNJ  - I'm so sorry to hear about how stressful everything has been recently! Hoping you get some much needed rest soon. All of the frustration just around this part of life sometimes seems even more extreme when other stresses take our focus away too. Glad in the end everything worked out with getting the meds you need & that DH was proactive! I have to keep telling myself that in the end all of this stress and frustration will have been worth it when I'm holding that baby!

  • Thank you,  fine ladies!

I read something about how saying you were excited rather than nervous about something can help anxiety.  So I'm super excited to start my family with my husband tomorrow.

My acupuncturist called with my schedule.  I go in at 11:10, get blood work done,  PEE, and then start chugging water.  Take my Valium at 11:30, and she'll work on me until 12:15, then take me to embryology,  and my transfer will be at 12:30. I can pee again 15 minutes after they're done,  and my acupuncturist will work on me again and I'll be done around 2pm.

Then we'll go home and netflix the weekend away.  We went to our favorite BBQ joint and got a feast with lots of great leftovers to get us through the weekend.  :-)

  • Woohoo, @halips! I am excited for you! And welcome, @wishingforluck

My transfer went super smoothly. The best part was they gave us a picture of our thawing embryo, which really made this super real.

I thought I'd have trouble with the bedrest part of it, but really, I've napped almost all of the last two days. It doesn't seem like it was physically such a big deal for me to need to recover by sleeping for two days, but I'm assuming between all the meds and the emotions, I'm just wiped out.

I have to take my husband back to the airport soon, which means I'll be back to injecting my own PIO. I will seriously miss his help with it! (well, and all of the other things he does which are amazing and wonderful and make me the luckiest girl in the world, but particularly the help with the PIO!)

  • What a lovely embryo you have there, @halips! Sticky baby vibes! Welcome to the land of PUPO with me! :)

I'm feeling tired and totally able to nap all the time, but it could be related to the fact I haven't had coffee since Thursday. Every single thing I feel, I am attributing it to one sign or another. I'm pretty sure it's all in my head. Like "My scrambled egg tasted weird" or "was that a twinge from implantation?"

  • @halips Congrats! That is a good looking embaby.
  • Congrats everyone on your transfers!

Went in this morning to make sure everything looked ok to start transfer meds and apparently my ovaries aren't quite healed from ER yet.  RE wants to see me back in a week and then hopefully will start then.  It's definitely disappointing to wait but I definitely want to be as healthy as possible for my ET!  Of course, this now pushed me into early May, so I won't be with you April ladies for ET!  For those who have had ET and/or know their protocol, were you on bed rest after?  My REs office mentioned it's 48 hours of bed rest after, which is tough due to my work and travel schedule.

  • @Rachnan, my paperwork all says "48 hours of modified bedrest". My RE told me while I was still in the stirrups after my transfer that it means to avoid stairs as much as possible or lifting anything over 10 pounds. That we could go to a movie or go out to dinner, but to keep as calm and stress-free as possible.  And like I've said above, I'm a total nap monster right now. I probably slept 40 out of my first 48 hours after transfer. Maybe the hormones, maybe coming down from the transfer? I'm not sure. I haven't napped today, but I slept until almost 10 a.m, and I know I won't be up too late tonight.

  • @mela615 thanks for the response!  Depending on the day my ET happens I may have to fly like 40 hours after.  So sounds like I might have to push my trip or the ET...

  • @rachnan my paperwork says 48hours of modified bedrest as well. They then say "basically be a couch potato". It also specifically Called out no household chores like
vaccuming, no yard work, no heavy lifting, no exercise, no excessive bending and no flying. I think some
drs differ on the specifics, but most encourage some decreased activity with rest.
Sorry you're experiencing this delay, but you definitely have the right attitude about it! Fx for you!
