Thoughts on Caleb

My husband loves the name Caleb, I'm on the fence. What are your thoughts on the name (classic, trendy, old …)? What characteristics do you associate with the name? All thoughts are appreciated!

Re: Thoughts on Caleb

  • I would assume the parents were very religious.

  • I don't love or hate it. It's used enough I don't think it screams religious at all. It's just one of those names that's doesn't excite me but there also is nothing wrong with it. It also has been popular enough for long enough I don't consider it trendy either.

  • It's one of those names that straddles the classic/country line, but more like Amos and less like  Wyatt.
  • Hadn't thought about it before but I love it! For some reason it makes me think of the strong silent type in a grown up and a little mischievous as a boy NN Cal
  • Ehh I'm not a huge fan of Caleb. It's a fine name, just nms I guess. If you love it, go for it!
  • yawn............it is fine but a little boring
  • I used to like this name but now find it a little blah. I like Jacob better, although it's super common. I would assume maybe it was chosen because of religion. I would never think of it as being country like PP said!
  • I like it. It's fairly uncommon yet recognizable and has some cute nickname options (Cal, Cale). I do think biblical but not in the "family must be really religious" way. It's mainstream biblical.
  • Caleb is a great name. I don't think it's too biblical/religious at all and I definitely don't get a "country" vibe from it. I really like Caleb because it's handsome, masculine, and it works for all ages. I actually knew a Caleb in high school and he was such a nice, caring person. He was also very smart and athletic.

  • Thanks so much for all the input!
  • I like it a lot with Nn Cal
  • Not a fan
  • I like Calvin better. Caleb sounds like fake chocolate to me (carob). Can't shake the association. I wouldn't side eye it, though, it's a real name as long as you don't spell it Kailaeb or something.
  • I like it a lot! I, too, get a country vibe from it. But not overwhelmingly so. I've suggested it to DH but he nixed it, as he knew 2 Calebs growing up.

  • I liked Caleb when I was pregnant with my first, but then I kept seeing 'celeb' (abbreviation of celebrity) in news articles and would read it as Caleb. Such a small stupid thing, but it turned me off the name.
