Morning (All Day) Sickness and Work

I am looking for some advice or possibly some ladies that might be in the same situation.

I work full full time at General Motors (in a factory). I have a very active and labor demanding job. My shift starts at 6am. I have been at this job for 9 years now. We have an extremely strict attendance policy. We are only allowed 40 hours of call in days a year, and if we exceed that, we could get fired. It is a zero tolerance policy. They don't even accept doctors notes. I've seen people get fired. And they have NO sympathy for pregnant women.

I have pretty bad morning sickness. I suck it up most days and drag my ass into work. It is extremely difficult keeping up, because I constantly feel like I'm on the verge of throwing up and constantly dizzy. I called into work today because I seriously could not physically get out of bed. My mom came and even took my 2 year old. So, now I'm left with 20 hours of call in time for the year.

My doctors appointment isn't until the 16th and I've tried almost every trick in the book for nausea.

Any advice? Any tricks that aren't very well known? I'll take all the advice I can get.

I would see if your doctor can call in a prescription for something before your appt. No sense in suffering for another week when you could start taking something now.
    Hope you feel better!

    Edited for spelling.

  • Agree with @MRSCORKER, get a prescription for diclegis. I've also read on here that it's just b6 + unisom, both over the counter meds. (you'll have to check correct dosage).

Also, once in a while, your body just needs a break. I called in sick yday and just slept all day. Today I feel much better.

Good luck and I hope you find relief soon!
  • My appointment was a week away and I couldn't wait. I sent my doctor an email. She said to try B-6 three times a day and then take a Unisom at night. It doesn't take it away completely. I have to constantly snack to feel somewhat better but the B-6 and Unisom take the edge off. Hope you find some relief.

Diclegis, and constant small snacks are my go to. I would call your doctor and explain  your situation. They will probably be able to help you!

If you don't want to wait for the Diclegis Rx, you can take Unisom and B6... That's all it is. Be sure you're taking the Unisom with Doxylamine, not Diphenhydramine (diphenhydramine is just Benadryl)
  • I would call your OB and ask him/her to call a prescription in for you.  They did it for me.

  • My job is also demanding and I am often meeting with clients, etc. And I also have debilitating nausea. I missed work almost all of week 6 because I was so sick. It's not only horrible feeling so sick but I know how stressful and depressing it can be when it starts affecting your work life.

I tried diclegis and it actually made things worse because it made me way too tired to do anything. So honestly - I take Zofran to function. I can't function without it. I know there are risks, but I took it through my entire last pregnancy with no issues at all. And without it I cannot work, I barely can eat and I was constantly anxious and even a little depressed. And for me that was worse for baby and for myself than taking it. (also, my doctors are 100% ok with me taking it).
