3rd Trimester

32 weeks measuring 37 weeks

Hi everyone!

Just wondering about any thoughts any of you might have on this.  My first baby always measured 2 weeks ahead. She was born exactly 2 weeks before my due date at 7 lbs 7 oz. With this baby until today I hd always measured 2 weeks ahead as well. Well at my ob checkup this morning I'm measuring 37 weeks and I'm only 32 1/2 weeks. My dr didn't seem overly concerned. She said she was going to determine where babies head is etc ar next appt.

I know it is said that the measurement is not always an accurate way to tell the size of a baby because there can be a lot of other factors at play. That being said I'm having major anxiety about it. Thinking my baby is huge and I'm going to need a c section which is my biggest fear.

Anyone else measure this far ahead and have a normal size baby and delivery?

  • If your doctor isn't worried then I wouldn't be either. Besides, there isn't really anything you can do about it if the baby is big so try to relax.

  • And most docs don't even do FundAL height anymore because it's highly inaccurate and causes alot of worry for nothing...
    No worries!
  • I would agree with Twiz. I don't think that having big babies was ever easy, but they didn't used to automatically mean a C-section. My friend had a 23" long, 10++ lb baby vaginally and I think, unmedicated. But she really had to fight hospital staff to not rush to the C-section. It's possible.

  • I've measured 4-6 weeks ahead since 26ish weeks. My midwife nor my backup OB seem concerned at all. I actually polled around 20 moms who measured WAY ahead and they, for the most part, had 6 to 8 lb babies at term. I wouldn't worry. :)

    3 miscarriages - 1 DS (6) - 1 DD (3)  - #3 due March 30!

  • Thanks for the responses. I'm just going to take a deep breathe and wait and see :)
  • My hypnobirthing instructor had two 9+lb babies drug free, and no tearing. My grandmother did the same for her 11+lb son!!!  It's possible to birth big kids without the medical intervention so I say don't stress over it!  Remember your body was made for having kids and knows what to do!
