Stretch Mark Prevention

Hi There, October '16 moms :)

This is my first pregnancy and my stomach is now starting to itch a little bit which I have heard is a sign that it's expanding (let's hope it's from baby and not the pizza I ate last night!!) Do any of you have suggestions for items have that have worked really well for preventing stretch marks from previous pregnancies? So far I've just been trying to stay hydrated and have been using regular lotion to keep it moisturized but I'm looking for a product that has (hopefully) proven to work for other moms. Please let me know if you have any insight.

THANK YOU!

  • Stretch marks are genetic.  Unfortunately, no amount of preventive therapy will keep them at bay.

  • excessive weight gain during pregnancy will make them more likely but they are genetic. mine were light in color and are hardly noticeable after losing weight. I did have some that were reddish purple and I used the mederma stretch mark cream after I have birth. it helped a lot and they turned back to myregular skin color

  • This is my 3rd pregnancy and I don't have any stretchmarks. Besides staying active, I drink a lot of water, gently exfoliate and put coconut oil on my belly through out the whole pregnancy. So far that has worked for me I hope it works for this pregnancy too.

You hit the genetic lottery. All of those things you mentioned can certainly help, but if you're going to get stretch marks, they're happening no matter what you do.
  • Yep, same answer as pp. I will say that the Burts Bees Mama Bee oil has helped mine to fade a lot since I started using it again!
