K'tan baby carrier

Hey ladies. For those who have this carrier, how is it? Any negatives? I'm highly considering purchasing this. But I'm thinking of getting it in store so I can make sure I get the right size and get a feel for it. I would love to see pics. Also where did you purchase yours? Thank you.

Re: K'tan baby carrier

  • I bought one in store at Babies R Us, I was unsure of sizing since I had heard different opinions on that. I first bought the small (I'm between a size 4 and 6 pre-pregnancy) but it was too loose and I didn't feel like DS was secure in it so I exchanged it for an extra small. This one feels a bit snug but with the tee shirt type material I figure it stretches a bit. So far I've used it a couple of times and its been great/comfortable for us both. Honestly I debated returning it for my money back because to me its expensive for what it is and how long I thought I'd use it for (I also have an ergo that I prefer for when he is bigger) but I will keep it. When the weather warms up here it will be a nice carrier for chasing after DD at the park or in the yard while he's still small.

  • I have one and I'm not sold on it. It might be too big. At the same time though I feel like it's crushing his lower body. I find it difficult to position the baby especially keeping his chin off his chest. I wish I had gone to a store or babywearing group to try out options. I think I might be a better candidate for a soft  structured carrier since I find the getting in and out annoying. I can't wait until he fits in the tula!

  • @lilqt3929 thank you. I read a lot about the sizes. I definitly need an x-small then. I definitely want my moneys worth on any carrier I buy but this one also looked the easiest to use.
@OctoberStars thank you for the reply. That's exactly why I want to try it on first. How's the Tula? Does baby need to be a certain weight/age?
  • Personally I love mine !! I watched a few YouTube videos to get the hang of how to use it. I grocery shop with mine wear it around the house etc babygirl feels secure and she likes to be in there (she will calm after being fussy prior) I'll snap a pic this weekend when we are using ours
  • I love mine. Great for the newborn stage/first 6 months, I don't think it will be good once baby gets heavy bc the material is stretchy. Then i'll go to my ergo. Easy to get on/off and i can even sneak out of it with baby asleep in it! The sizing chart on their website is not correct. It told me to get a medium, I ordered a small instead (Amazon)and it fits great. If I remember correctly from your pictures, you're pretty tiny right? I don't know how small they go, but if they only go to an XS it's likely gonna be too big for you. For reference, I'm wearing the small Ktan & I'm a solid medium in tops, 8/10 bottoms and 36DD (which I think makes a difference in fit on this style carrier).
  • If you have a Target close by check them out. I know the one by me has them in stock, it may be easier to return it if you don't end up liking it or need a different size. Also, as far as sizing goes I saw quite the difference between the extra small and small.
  • I like mine! I think I got a small- I'm pretty thin with small boobs but I have broad shoulders. There are several baby wearing groups near me that offer meetings and different carriers to try on- maybe you have something like that near you ? Also, I agree with the pp - I'll switch to my ergo once baby gets a bit heavier.  It distributes the weight a little better...
  • I love mine too! So quick and easy to use. And yes getting the right size is important because it won't work as good otherwise. But I only use it for a couple months when baby is teeny before switching to a Tula so I don't know how good it works long-term.

  • I have a Nesting Days carrier that I'm going to try (haven't yet). Might be worth a look. I used a Boba wrap with DD1.

  • I have a nesting days carrier that I've mostly worn around the house. I worry about supporting her head well if I need to bend over and get something so I haven't worn it as much as I thought I would. I wore her to the grocery store the other day and am planning on wearing her tomorrow when we go house hunting. It's made out of more a swimsuit/80s workout leggings type material so it fits pretty snugly but stretches nicely--the sizing may be better since you're tiny. It was pricey though for something that has a such a small window of use.
  • The tula can be used with infants if you buy the insert, which I didn't. It feels a little bulky for a newborn but it's so soft and supportive. I'm thinking of trying the infantino since I've already invested a small fortune between the k'tan and tula and the infantino is less than $30.

  • @OctoberStarsI loved my infantino with DS1 before I splurged for the ergo!
  • I have one and I can't seem to get the hang of it. DS will start off in the right position but the more I move around the more he slips lower and lower on me. And this is only when he wants to be all curled up, which isn't often. He prefers to be stretched out and straight.

  • @mrsc12414 I would definitly love to grocery shop with baby in it. Especially since I have 4 little ones. @Ju111310 I'm 5'1, 110 right now. I would hope the x-small would fit. I was going to go to babies r us this weekend but I didn't get the chance. But know I'm trying to look around some more. Cute pic :)
  • @lilqt3929 I do have a target. I honestly haven't seen it there but I'll definitky check it out. Thank you.
@jellybellybean3 thank you. How do you like the Tula? hmm and my son is already going to be 1 month on Sunday so I wouldn't have it for long.
@charliegoldengirl how do you find groups like that? I read someone saying Facebook but I only have an Instagram. How's the ergo? Any negatives?
  • @VitaLuna thanks. I'll check it out. Let me know how it is when you try it :)
@mwmiller4 ohh what's the price? I definitely don't see myself spending a lot on a carrier/wrap. But I also have never had one.

I did find the group on Facebook... But if you know of other local mom groups - someone might be able to point you in the right direction! I like my ergo ...The ergo can a little hot- esp with the insert.  Honestly though, I probably would've bought a lillebaby or Tula instead if I had known about them.
  • I got mine on Amazon. Tried it on yesterday but couldn't get up the nerve to put baby in it because it seemed so small. I got the size according to my pre-preg size (xs) but maybe it's my boobs that are impacting that... Or maybe my baby is just huge (about 10 lbs now)..? Idk. Using our Tula for now.
