Baby Names

how popular are these names in your area?

So, we went back to the drawing board a little bit with our names and we were wondering how popular these ones are really- we looked at the social security site already but are still curious about popularity at local levels. So if you could please tell us your general area of the world and if you know a lot of little ones with these names. Thanks for the help!

Ezra
Naomi
Isaac
Simon
Isaiah
Esther
Abraham
Solomon
Ruth
Silas

Not one of those are popular and frankly don't know kids with most of them where I am in NY and I like them all

  • I only know one little Naomi. I love all the names.
  • Silas is quite popular in my area. That's the only one that seems common to me. Nice names!
  • I know a little Ezra but that's it. Those names aren't very popular. I like them all.
    DD: Ophelia 5/18/15
  • I know 2 Isaacs and one Ezra and Naomi. DS is Simon.
    Those are solid options.
  • I'm in the Pacific Northwest. I know one Isaac - he's about 4.

I'm in Western Canada. I'm going with under 10 years old. I know 1 Isaiah and no children under 10 with the other names.

ETA if I was looking at everyone I know instead of little ones...these are all names that you would meet 1 or 2 of in your lifetime, in my area at least. (Except Isaac. I know several teenaged Isaac's.) That's a good place to be I think. Great choices.
  • I personally know one Naomi and four Ezra's (Naomi is 10 years old, and all of the Ezra's are under the age of five). The one Isaac that I know, it is actually his middle name. I know one Esther, she is the daughter of a girl I grew up with, and she is five. I know one Simon. I know probably ten Isaiah's (I am not going to bother trying to actually count and get the exact number). I would stay that Isaiah is the most popular name out of your list.

  • I'm in MA and can honestly say I don't know 1 person with any of these names- old or young. My area/ friends' kids seem to be all- Jaden, Aiden, Jackson, Owen, Emma, Olivia, Amelia
  • I'm in PA and don't know any people (young or older) with these names either. DS's mn is Ezra but I'm not counting that. I love them all though! Great list.

Ezra and Solomon are popular in my area. I've met children with all of those names, all good choices. I love Naomi.

I'm from Colorado so there is not much interest in biblical names at all! Except Asher, which isn't on your list. Asher freaking EXPLODED around here.

Naomi is a top pick for me though, I've only met one my entire life and she's 4 years older than me 1,000 miles away now.

I don't know one person with any of these names besides Isaiah. My husband cousins son is named Isiah and he's 9. My son also doesn't have anyone with those names in his class or sport teams. I've heard of these names many times though. I live in Southern Cali.
  • Not popular here, but my area is also not very religious. Solomon, Esther and Abraham are awful IMO.

  • I'm a teacher in NJ and I'd say in our entire school of about 450 we only have a few Naomis and Isaiahs the others are not popular at all.

  • I'm in Wisconsin and out of that list i would say Isaac is the most popular. I have a friend that named her daughter Ruthie and that was the first I had heard the name that wasn't an old lady. :) I don't know any other children with those names, but I do know a couple of adults (Soloman, Naomi, Simon).

  • I'm in Ohio and have a friend with a baby named Solomon nn Solly. I know a few older isaac's and one baby. The rest are names I hear a lot online but never in real life! Good list!
  • I'm in Illinois. We know several isaacs, one Ezra, and my best friend has an Abraham (Abe). That's it though. All solid choices if you dig that vibe! My favorite is Naomi.
  • I'm from western Canada as well. I know of quite a few Isaacs, a Naomi, Esther, Soloman and Simon (all over 20yrs old). I know one Ezra who is a few months old and I've heard of a few new moms in my area who have named their sons Silas. All great options!
  • Great names. My son is Silas. The only one I know. My nephew is Isaac. Knew a Naomi in highschool... In the Midwest.
  • I'm on the Canadian prairies. I have a 2 year old Silas and have met a Sylas around the same age in my town.

I know one three year old Isaiah and one twenty-something Isaac where I live.

I know several Naomis and one Ruth in their 30s in western Canada. I also know one Ezra there who is under 10.

I don't find those names to be common at all but I have seen a few getting more popular elsewhere in recent years.

We have an Abraham, but I don't know any other kids with those names. I teach 3rd grade, so they may be more common with babies and toddlers, but I don't know any.

eta. Sorry, I have 2 Isaacs in my classes.

  • As a teacher in the midwest, I've only met 2 Isaacs, 1 Isaiah, and a couple of Silas through the years.

  • I'm in California and within the past few years I have come across over a hundred kids from newborns through early elementary through work, mostly newborn through 5 year olds, and a wide variety of ethnicities. There have been enough Ezras that I've thought it was a trendy name (5-10 maybe?), maybe 2-4 Isaacs, 1 or 2 Isaiahs, 1 Simon, 1 Naomi, 1 Solomon. I've met a couple adults who were named Solomon and Esther, but no kids. I haven't met anyone else in this part of the world with the other names.
  • In the south and only heard of an Ezra and Isiah. Both from very biblical families.

  • Ezra-hear it occasionally
    Naomi-know 1
Isaac - This I'd the only one I'd call popular. I know at least 4.
    Simon-know 1
    Isaiah
    Esther
    Abraham
    Solomon
    Ruth-know a few older Ruths
    Silas-know 1

  • Another from WI and I know a girl that named her boy Isaac, and someone else used Abraham. Other than that I haven't met many (children or adults) with those names.

Side note - I live in WI now but my DH is active duty. In the past 12 years we've lived in 4 different locations around the US (here, the PacNorWest, the Gulf South, the NYC Metro area), and the frequency of running into these names was small in all of them

  • PNW here, Issac is pretty popular. The others, not so far as I've heard.
  • None- southwest
  • I don't personally know anyone with kids with those names - I'm in NJ.  However, I've seen Ezra all over my facebook wall.   I do have a cousin who is Naomi, but she's 33 years old and named after a great grandparent, and my 90 year old grandmother is Ruth.

  • NJ-
I know multiple Ezra's and a couple of Isaac's. The rest don't ring any bells.

  • I've met people with all those names, but I lived in Israel as a kid, and Montreal is very multicultural, so my opinion may not be very representative.
