I have wavy hair and have not blow dried or straightened my hair in close to 5 years. (I've been married for almost 5 and have not owned either of those in that time frame). Yes!!!! I've only worn my hair down a few times since DD was born. My curly hair takes way too long to tame.

Pregnant or not, I do not understand spending more than a half hour to get ready to go anywhere.  If people care that much about how I look, they should just not look at me.  Don't get me wrong, I straighten my hair and do put makeup on but how can a makeup and hair routine take longer??  I do not have time for that!
You must not have super thick, wavy hair  :D.  My hair takes close to 30 minutes just to blow dry, not including styling in the process!  If I bother to straighten it, I usually let my hair dry overnight and blow dry to style in the morning, and I can crank it out pretty quickly that way.  But on the off chance that I have to shower, wash hair, style and generally look presentable all at once, it's a nightmarishly long process thanks to the hair!!
  • I am actually nervous about having a girl because I really don't put much effort into my appearance at all. I dress appropriately and am well-groomed, but I never wear makeup or do more with my hair than simply brushing it or putting it up in a neat ponytail or messy bun (depending on what the day brings!). I wear the same jewelry everyday (cross necklace, wedding band, engagement ring) and only change it up for special occasions/church/date night. The most makeup I have worn in the past ten years was a swipe of mascara and tinted chapstick for my wedding (I did get my hair professionally done). I never get my nails done and don't even own any nail polish. I know I am not the most attractive person and I definitely don't turn heads, but I honestly don't care that much. I feel weird when I "spruce it up" a bit and I don't recognize myself. I went through a weird goth-lite phase in high school and would wear thick black eyeliner and dark eyeshadow with dark purple lipstick. What a look! I recently tried to do my makeup for a girl's night out and look fancy, but I totally failed, ended up wiping off all the makeup (which I had to borrow from my sister since I don't own any foundation/powder/eyeshadow etc) and just went au naturale. Did I look stunning? Nope, but I felt comfortable.

I hope that I can successfully show my daughter that it is ok to take pride in your appearance and look pretty, but it has to be what you want. I don't want her to feel like she has to wear makeup or do her hair for anyone else's benefit or viewing pleasure, but if it makes her happy, I will totally learn how to work a curling iron and a makeup brush.

Most STMs will hopefully feel the same way on this:  baby clothes sizing!!!   My daughter was in newborn, 0-3 months, and 3-6 at the same time depending on the brand of clothes. Get it together!!!
Yes! And still! DD is 4 and has a long torso which makes most 4T shirts too short for her depending on the brand. But 4T leggings, which is all she will wear BTW, are perfect. If bought from Old Navy or Carters. All other brands are hit or miss. This makes buying clothes ahead of each season almost impossible. Luckily she has lots of girl cousins and lots of hand me downs to choose from each season.

I cannot wait to be able to dress this baby in whatever I want, and not have to struggle every day. I know the time will come, but I'm going to enjoy it while I can.

My son is super tall but has the skinniest little waist and no butt. So, if I put him in 2T pants, they are just long enough, but constantly falling down. Since he is potty training, I am not about to throw a belt or suspenders in the mix so I have been putting him in 18-24month pants....which of course look like highwaters! They barely go past his calves and then I have to make up for it with knee high socks and boots. Other parents must think I have no idea how to dress a child, but when they are between sizes or have a different body type, it is super hard!

Look for the pants with adjustable waist! DD has a tiny waist and these have been life savers. Most leggings work well for her, but she can't wear anything other than leggings or adjustable waist jeans. Osh Kosh and the children's place both work for us!

Have you guys ever tried DevaCurl products? I swear by them. It isn't cheap but their conditioner (called One Condition) seriously changed my life. I couldn't live without that or their diffuser, it dries my hair really quick and doesn't give me triangle head. It's crazy looking but amazing. Sorry the picture is huge.
  • @LadySamLady Yeah I've tried their products. It definitely helped some but not enough for me to just leave my hair down and feel comfortable with it.

    Sadness.
  • My mom is hosting mine. Fortunately, she is a direct person, and has told me that it is a gift from her, to me. That being said, I do plan to write her a letter of appreciation and take her out to lunch the following weekend!

You sound a lot like me and there is nothing wrong with that!! I have no idea how to apply make up and actually make it look nice. I don't care to learn. I take 15 minutes in the morning getting ready for work and that includes taking the dogs out to the bathroom. I simply run a brush through my hair and leave it down. Makes like easy. lol

My UO is that I don't get the whole buying a thank you gift for your shower host thing. I've NEVER heard of that before. I've hosted two showers and co-hosted two others and I never got any sort of thank you gift. I won't be giving one to the hosts of my shower.. there are four!
I agree with you.  Unfortunately, where I live (maybe it's regional? maybe it's my social circles?) a host is always given a thank you gift.  So I will have to buy six gifts for the hosts of my shower.  I have hosted many showers and always received a gift.  I have never understood it.  Me hosting your shower is a gift to you.  Don't give me a gift back!
This was my thought. I always thought the etiquette for a baby shower was actually that an actual gift for the host is nice if you can swing it, but not entirely necessary... However a thank you card would not be a bad idea
this doesn't really make sense to me, though, because if someone gives me a gift I want to reciprocate. And throwing a shower, especially when the host is paying for the food, drinks, maybe even venue, all while you're getting baby presents, is a really BIG gift, so to do something like buy the host flowers or a small token and write a thank you card seems like the least you could do. Which I guess may be my UO :)

Agreed. I don't make a big deal about my birthday. I want a part for my 30th, which is this year, but other than that birthdays aren't a big deal for me.

I have wavy hair too and have had the best luck showering after DS goes to sleep and just letting it air dry. • My UO is...I can't wait for my baby shower but am dreading having to send thank you cards. I think they are pointless. I don't expect one when I give gifts . It's not something they are going to keep. I mean sure it's fine to expect people to spend hours in the last trimester, when things swell and you're prepping for a new one, to hand write notes of thanks. Really? Ugh. Why can't my thank you at the shower be enough? The wedding gifts make more sense because i didnt open the gifts in front of them but then I threw a party! That took alot of time to make nice for our guest, way more than anyone traveled and my out of pocket cost far exceeded the gifts. I appreciate everything I ever been given, not in the least ungrateful but I'm annoyed by the expected form of thanks. In this day and age an email should suffice.
  • Follow up for the getting ready post: I completely understand if your hair is super curly, but a lot of my close friends have straight hair already and still spend an hour or more getting ready every time.
  • I guess this might be an UO, I kind of enjoy primping a little bit. I wear minimal makeup but it doesn't take much to feel a little spruced up and ready to face the day. This might be messed up but I just feel a bit more confident if I put some effort into my appearance.
As a SAHM, I couldn't agree more. There are many days that I do my hair, put some makeup on but never even leave the house, and yet I feel good. Even on my tough days with my 2 year old, I make sure I follow my one rule: put mascara on! It makes me feel awake and ready for whatever the day brings.

See I always felt like something was wrong with me because I don't like makeup! I think I am more intimated about it than anything since I have less than no artistic talent. Every time I attempt to do my hair or look nice, I just fail miserably. I say if you got the skills, go for it! I just hope my little girl isn't the one other moms cluck their tongues at and murmur "Oh, that poor thing" when I drop her off at school.  :/

  • I'm with everyone else on the hair thing. I have naturally curly/wavy hair and I haven't blown dry or straightened it since around Christmas. It's too much work. And my H actually likes my hair natural. And it's too damn hot to blow dry and straighten it. So, I am reserving that for really special occasions. Like for Christmas.

Wavy to curly hair here, I've found the best method for me is to wash it once a week and blow it out. I wear it up to sleep and if I'm just at home in a top knot.  Since it has a naturally bouncy texture, it shapes well from the top knot and ends up looking good all week if I wear it down. I barely use any dry shampoo because that just makes it feel dirty.

It's kind of embarrassing how infrequently I wash my hair but it allows me to look halfway put together on a daily basis in 10 min once I put on some concealer, bronzer, and mascara.
I guess my UO is that I wash my hair every morning because I feel gross if I don't. I will rewash it, even if I washed it before bed the night before. I won't do dry shampoos, so unless I'm going to the beach or on the boat (in which case it goes in a ponytail with a baseball cap), it gets washed. I also shave my legs every day - even when I know I'll be wearing pants - though that's becoming increasingly more difficult lately. It grosses me out when I skip either of those daily routines.
