Diaper Subscription vs. Buying Retail

Hey Mamas....starting to plan ahead and try to budget for our new family member. I'm interested in the honest diapers and have read mostly good things about them. Just curious if anyone out there has experience with them? Is it a better deal to stock up and buy at target when they are on sale or do the subscription through honest company? I think they look like a great diaper and i love the idea of being "green" but most of my friends don't use them. They use UP & UP or pampers. Thoughts? Thanks so much for the input. Can't believe I'm already in my third trimester and this little lady will be here in a few short months.

Re: Diaper Subscription vs. Buying Retail

  • Honest diapers didn't work well for us, but before committing to any particular brand or even style within a brand I would encourage you to test them out first. Not all diapers work for every baby and it's easier to figure out which brand/style are the best fit for your LO first before signing up for a subscription. I recently tried to switch DS to Pampers Cruisers from Swaddlers and they caused a horrible diaper rash, but because I bought a small bag it wasn't a big deal and I gave the remaining diapers to my neighbor.

  • I agree with PP. We had issues with our DS peeing out of the honest ones. Some people swear by certain brands and they just didn't work for him. The only ones we could use were swaddlers. Once you know for sure subscription may be a good option.

We love honest diapers when we can't use our cloth diapers for whatever reason. But I agree not to go gung ho on diaper buying just yet. Buy a small bag, see how they work for your girl, then make your decision about buying at target vs subscription. If you like the subscription feature, look into amazon mom/their subscribe&save program. They give great discounts on diapers.

Also if you're interested, a greener disposable exists called Bambo Nature. They're AWESOME. But spendy. And I believe Amazon has a subscription option for them as well. https://www.amazon.com/Bambo-Nature-Premium-Diapers-Count/dp/B00EKRCCU0

I agree with pp. Definitely be open about brands and styles at first to see what works best for your LO. DS does best with Pampers Swaddlers or Cruisers, so we stick with those. If you use a subscription service, be sure that it's easily adjustable to accommodate sales, overstocking, and/or size changes. We use Amazon subscribe and save because it's normally the cheapest per diaper price, but if there's a great sale elsewhere that makes them cheaper, I just delay our delivery and buy where they're cheapest at the moment. It's easy to adjust the size or timing, so it works well.
  • We're planning on doing cloth but for the first weeks until she fits into the one size ones we were going to get the honest diapers. But my step sister said while they were cute they also had issues with leaking so we're still looking. We have Amazon prime so we've been looking at brands available for the subscribe and save to try and save a little bit on them.
  • Honest diapers is the most expensive brand that I've seen. That said, they do have cute designs and are eco friendly.
  • We used to use Honest. Then I calculated the cost difference. Honest is $50-70/month more expensive for my 19 month old than Up-and-Up (Target brand). I always buy two boxes when they offer the $10 or $20 gifts cards (recently was $30!). We've never had a problem with any kind of diaper fitting, leaking or causing rashes but lots of people do, so probably best not to "stock up" until you know what works for your LO. I will buy a pack of cute Honest diapers if we're going to the beach or somewhere he'll be cruising around diaper-only.

  • I'm an Amazon Mom lover. I didn't start a subscription until we figured out which brand works best for us (Pampers) but it's great! I love not having to worry about it unless sometimes we have to supplement with a small pack in between deliveries. I'm sure sometimes others stores have better deals but I don't have the patience or time to contantly shop through sale ads for the best deals.
