Mommas with history of pre-e, iugr

my daughter was born at 32 weeks due to pre-eclampsia, and we found out after her birth that she was also iugr. I am trying to decide if I should have a specialist consult during my pregnancy this time around. My OB has experience with pre-e, and he seems very up to date with the latest studies and information. I do not want the specialist to manage my pregnancy, as we do not see eye to eye on many things, though I respect his expertise and knowledge. I do plan to discuss with my OB at my 8 week appointment, but wondering what other moms have done or plan to do.

Re: Mommas with history of pre-e, iugr

  • I had high blood pressure but it was not pre-e. My son was also born with IUGR but at 37 weeks.

I see a MFM and she oversees all of my care.

  • Can you ask your OB to refer you? You can see both the OB and MFM together, I think. It will be nice to have two professionals to be extra careful for you.

  • Yeah that's what I was thinking too. I would be happy for the specialist to consult, but I do not want him managing my whole pregnancy. I didn't find out I had pre-e until 2 days before my daughter was born, and I didn't know that IUGR could be so serious until just a couple months ago, so I was really unaware that my next pregnancy could be so complicated. Everything that we went though is just a blur, and I don't think it ever hit me how serious it was. I don't like to make a big deal out of it, so I don't really know what to do moving forward with another pregnancy. I'm sure I will see the perinatologist either way, because I have questions I'd like answered anyway.
