My son Bostin who will be 7 months on the 9th has had a really bad cough and chest congestion for going on a month now. We went back to the doctor last week Friday bc she told me at hew 6month appt to give it two weeks since a virus can last about 10 to 14 days. Well they put him on antibiotics and we have to do breathing treatments. It will be a week of doing all that on this Friday which we also go back to the doctor that day so she can see how he's doing with that. Well it hasn't seemed to get any better. He is still extremely active and happy. He is also eating fine.  At night though it seems worse than it is during the day he coughs so bad and loud. Sometimes gets these really bad cough attacks. It keeps me up. I'm so worried about him. Sometimes you can really hear and feel the rattling in his chest. They might have to end up doing chest x-rays from what whe told me last week. I'm sorry for the long post. I'm just really worried and scared for my lil boy that something could be seriously wrong with him. So please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

Re: Worried mama

  • I have said a prayer and will continue to keep praying that he has a speedy recovery. It's so hard to see our little ones go through tough times. Hang in there Mama.
  • I will most certainly keep praying for him! Don't worry God has everything under control and I declare health for your baby boy in the name of Jesus! Keep us updated mama!!

  • So sorry to hear that! Sounds like you are on top of it though, he will get better soon! I was going to post this seperatley but since it pertains to this topic...what are you guys doing for treating colds/coughs? I have been using the humidifier at night and steaming up the bathroom and sitting in there for a bit. Also nasal saline spray and nose freida. Has anyone ever used Vicks? And is there any cough medicine for babies?
  • I was and still kind of am in the same boat with my LO he was sick for a month and a half they tested him for rsv and whooping cough. He ended up having bronchiolitis and had to have breathing treatments as well the treatments seemed to really help. I asked the doc if it was normal for them to be sick that long and she said our little ones get 6 to 8 viruses a year and sometimes they get them back to back which seems like to us their not getting better. I don't know I just know it's so hard seeing our babies sick for so long it's awful hang in there and I will keep your LO in my prayers.
  • Thanks for all the positive feedback ladies makes me feel better about the situation. That's what I love about the group how supportive and caring we are for one another. I will keep you ladies posted. I keep thinking that he might have bronchitis. We will see what the Dr says tmrw and what the next step is.

I hope everything is good mama and think positive, I'll be keeping you guys in my prayers and I know God is in control!! Keep us updated!!
  • Yes keep us updated. My LO has the same thing. She's had a cough since Christmas. She had croup but that went away and now she has this lingering cough. She's been sick a couple times too so the Dr thinks it just seems like her cough won't go away cuz she keeps getting sick. She hasn't said anything about an x ray so I think I might ask her about that. She gave us an inhaler in case she has asthma but she said she doesn't sound like she has asthma but its just the next step to take since there's nothing else wrong. This whole night she's been coughing up a storm I was awake all night :(  it definitely happens more so at night.
  • Bostin is all well now. He started off having croup and what the Dr thinked happened was as that was going away he had caught another virus that's why he's cough and congestion got so severe. This us the second time he's has a really bad cough with congestion first time he was 3months but didn't need breathing treatments. He needed the treatments this time around bc he was also wheezing and when the checked his oxygen levels it was only 76 and after I did a treatment at his appointment he went up to 98 and was still climbing. After a week of treatments when we went back he sounded so much better the congestion wasn't in his chest anymore it was more nasaly so we could end the treatments and only do as needed but we haven't had to do any since. By the time he's antibiotics were gone so was the cough and everything else. I was just so worried especially when they started talking about xrays if it didn't go away. But they still might consider xrays if he keeps getting it just to make sure he doesnt possibly have asthma. So now I have a breathing machine and the prescription for the stuff if he ever gets chest congestion again she told me to go away and give him treatments and see if that helps and also bring him back in to see her. Thanks everyone for the positive feedback. I might of been over worried but I couldn't sleep his cough was so bad especially at night. I'd rather be over worried than not worry about it at all. I'd rather bring him to the Dr every week to get him looked than to over look something that could be or turn into something severe or life threatening. Thanks again mamas for keeping him in your thoughts and prayers. Love you all love our sister/motherhood bond that we all have. Your support means so much!
