NBR: Rattled

I know this came up on WTF Wednesday but I think it deserves its own thread.  OH MY GOD some of those couples were ridiculous!!  Yeah, the Google docs things needs to be discussed, and also...that first couple, Marsadie (sp? idfk) & Doug?  I told my husband several times that they can't even be real people.  They can't.  I mean, right at the beginning when he's on the phone with 911 and he says "You gotta hurry, we were trying to do this at home but it was a terrible idea."  WHAT.  You were trying to have her deliver at home...with only you to help? While you're holding a video camera?  I also loved how he went tanning several hours after the baby was born.  AND THEN, they were making a list of things they needed....very basic essential baby supplies.  I'm sorry but did these people not get the same 9 months to prepare that the rest of us get????  And then his whole scene about the hospital overreacting to the fact that his baby's blood glucose was 37?

  • What the crap is this? Is this real life? Fiction? Please tell me it's fiction.

  • I wasn't planning on watching this but now it sounds like I need to. I think it might just make me feel a little better about our own baby. Lol.
  • I was really looking forward to this show! Missed it last night, so hoping I can catch it on demand. Sounds like a doozy!

Oh no.  It's real.  At least they say it's real.  It's on TLC & the 1st episode was last night.  @dsmith211 that's pretty much the reason that I won't be missing an episode.  @yogahh you gotta watch it.  I couldn't look away.

There's another couple that seem sweet.  They had IVF after trying for 2 years and ended up conceiving quadruplets. There's a 4th couple that I can't remember a single thing about, mainly because Marsadie & Doug were so trainwrecky I couldn't focus on much else.

And as someone mentioned in WTF, there's a couple in NYC who have created a color coded google doc of feeding, napping, etc, complete with alarms to signify when they should change activities.  The wife said that the baby will be fitting into their lives, not the other way around, and the husband agreed that it shouldn't be that hard to do.  I'm a FTM and I already know how hysterically funny that line of thinking is...

Omg. That makes me want to punch that couple. Can you be any more stupid... not to mention selfish? The baby will fit into YOUR schedule. Sound like awful parents.
  • I was shocked when the husband from the first couple asked the wife what items do we still need and she said a bassinet!  That is something you may want to buy before the baby is born!  And he made it sound like driving to see his other three kids wasn't worth it. He didn't explicitly say it but it felt implied.
  • Oh and I should say the only reason I will continue to watch it is because of the quadruplets couple. I have had their "a miracle unfolding" Facebook page liked for a long time and have been following their journey. So beautiful!

YES.  Personally I think that weird look on the woman's face that they kept showing was her saying "I cannot believe I procreated with this guy."  AND did you notice that they when female doctor was in the room telling him that his baby could go into a coma and die he just kept saying that they were going to get a lawyer and sue, but the next day when the male doctor told him the same thing he was like "ok, thanks."  Hmmm I think that may have been telling ;)
  • I noticed that too! He did not respect the female doctor at all! If someone told me my baby could go into a coma I would listen!
  • This is so nuts! We don't have cable so I won't be able to catch the show, but I'm definitely going to follow on the bump! Your baby is supposed to become your life basically. Sure we plan on taking him camping at 2 months because that's when we go camping (July) and we're making some "aggressive" food and health choices for him (we don't think they're aggressive but other people might) but I just completely disagree with anyone thinking a newborn can be put on a schedule.
  • Another of my favorite moments...the couple who decided at the last possible moment that they should probably go to the hospital?  The 911 operator told the father not to do anything to try and prevent the birth.  His response:  "Can't I just push her back in there?"  These people will be amazing parents.
  • What in the world is everyone talking about? What show is this? Sounds like a trainwreck and I may need to watch it.
  • So the couple from NYC own a childcare company that sounds really interesting from my internet stalking. But you would think that since they're in the business of finding high quality child care they would understand how absurd their plans are, apparently not?

The "home birth" couple is insane. Why isn't he in the ambulance with her? I hope there's a valid medical reason why he's in the car behind them giving an on camera play by play of the trip rather than holding her hand or basically anything else. And really, he's had 3 kids before and he asked if he should push the baby back in?!

Amen to the 3 kids and asking if he should push the baby back in. I also couldn't help but notice when they were talking about them moving in together, they slyly mentioned they had just moved in together "that" day and that's when I noticed all the unpacked boxes. This, I'm pretty sure, was just a few days before she actually went into labor, no? Now, you've got 9 months to plan for a child's arrival, you choose 37 weeks to move in together and decide it's a great idea to send your husband to get baby necessities when your baby is already here? Wtf?

Yeah I think the screen said it was 1 week before labor.  And they said "up until that point they had been doing their own thing and living separate lives."  Huh?  They don't really appear to even like each other.  Maybe they were a one-night-stand gone wrong?  OR, maybe they applied to the wrong TLC reality show and they meant to appear on "I didn't know I was pregnant."  !!!
  • I'm just watching now...but I am SO glad Doug's mom said something about milk not coming in right away! Stop making the woman feel like shit!

Omgggg I just got to the eyeballs part. Ouch.
  • I just watched this and couldn't believe these couples. How did doug and Mars not have any baby things? And he just skips out like the next day after she delivers to get a tan.

you would also think that the couple that owns the childcare business would understand more of child development and raising a baby. Like their google calendar, pretty sure no newborn is going to stick to a schedule.

I was so happy to see the Gardner's! I've been following them on Facebook since their story became viral and they just seem like the sweetest family
  • Watching this right now and sobbing at the intro of the couple with the quads. Also thinking i need to fast forward during marsadie giving birth as it is terrifying me!

  • So I halfway think the guy (I can't remember the couple's names, but the white dude and the black gal) somewhat redeemed himself a tiny bit with taking care of the baby while she went to work.  I was not impressed with his spilling soup on the napkin that he had placed over the baby's head.
I want to know where to buy one of those bottles that the couple with the schedule had.

Next week (third time is the charm I hope) seems like it will be a lot more interesting after seeing some of the previews for next week.

  • Yeah, I just wish he hadn't kinda rubbed it in her face that the baby soothed better for him than for her.  I feel kinda bad for her.

But how about the mother in law of the new couple???
  • I just realized the full episodes are available on TLC's website!
I go to bed way too early to watch it Tuesday nights and I was disappointed last week when it wasn't available "On Demand." Now I get to waste time at work watching it!!!

Ugh, right?!  Then she said "I know the doctor said the baby is better off on the inside for as long as possible, but that's not true.  She's much better off on the outside where I can take care of her."  Huh?
  • 8 minutes in and I am ready to punch Doug in the face..........

You beat me to it.  He had built back some credibility last week and now he has lost it all and then some.  What a total douche!  Next week will be sure to be interesting since they left it on a bit of a cliff hanger with her telling him she lost her job.  Not a total cliff hanger b/c he was still a douche about it, but I have a feeling it's only the beginning.

Also I'm so NOT a fan of helicopter mom/grandma.  I can't think of the couple's name, but she got ticked when they had her leave the room so they could talk to the nurse.

  • I hate that this show is on so late. 10:00 is way past bedtime!! Cant wait to catch it on demand later this week. Whats everyone's thoughts on the new couple (the one with the crazy grandma)? The girl is like nails on a chalkboard for me. I cant wait to see how the quints are!

    cat fail animated GIF

  • Cannot. Stand. That. Grandmother.  What a horrible person...telling your daughter that she's "rude" because she wanted a few minutes alone with his husband and baby.  I think the girl got it right when she said that her mother considered her a surrogate for her (gma's) baby.  When she was going on about how she had plans to be the first one to feed the baby and dress her for the first time I wanted to punch her.  And she really doesn't seem to have any concept of the fact that her behavior is inappropriate.

Also can't stand Doug.  Still.  I'm not actually sure what Mars saw in him in the first place.  I predict break up...
  • DH noticed this on our DVR last night and asked what it was. When I started explaining Doug and got to the "push it back in" part he was laughing hysterically and I hadn't even mentioned that the guy has 3 older children.

I havent watched this week's episode yet because it's seriously on too late but I really felt empathetic for the NY mom and her feelings of isolation last week. I'm so grateful both of my kids will be born when the weather is nice enough to walk around, it's so easy here to have things delivered but it really does isolate you if you're not careful.

Also, I know their schedule is insane but I can't recommend having a tracking app for baby enough. It kept me sane last time with my struggle to breast feed and allowed me to see patterns that I was too tired to notice on my own, so then I could somewhat anticipate what DS would do for a 2-3 hour span and take advantage (to shower, walk the dog, run errands).
  • I've saw the first two episodes on demand. Went to watch third this week and it's still not on, and they seem to have taken away the second episode. Anyone else having issues with this show on demand? Just wondering if it's us for some strange reason?

  • I watched the first ondemand no problem, then the second never came available. I got frustrated having to wait so long with no rhyme or reason (seems to happen often with Comcast!!) so I just set it to record from now on. We've started doing that with most shows bc of crappy ondemand turn around times.
  • Time Warner and the 3rd episode isn't available yet. Sometimes they also appear in the wrong folder.
  • That happened to me which is strange because episode 3 was available on demand one day last week. It's so inconsistent. But I was able to watch full episodes online.

  • Omg this show. Train wreck! I love to hate it! I want to stop watching but I can't. Obviously this sort of TV is for ratings but are people really as dumb as they are making Doug? What a douchtard. And that grandma.... Omg go...just....go.
  • I wish I could stop watching also, but I love pregnancy shows and movies when I am pregnant.  I wish they still had new episodes of A Baby Story.  It was one family each episode and just covered the last few weeks and the birth and a couple weeks after the baby came.  I would always cry during the birth.  Lol
