Infertility

I'm new here!!!! =]

Hello World-
Looking for some support. I'm new here. My husband and I have been going through treatment with our OB/GYN since October 2015. We have been trying to get pregnant since 2012. I have PCOS, which I have had for many years. I tried metformin and I couldn't tolerate it at all. Horrible experience, loose stools, nausea all day. My ob/gyn put me on clomid in october, the first month I was on 50mg, my progesterone on day 21 was 0.6. I never saw a positive surge on my ovulation test. The following month they originally ordered me 50mg Clomid and I started it, than changed me to 100mg. So i ended up with 4 days of 50 and than 5 days of 100mg. Started on day 3. My results were 8.6. Still no pregnancy. Although I did finally see a positive surge. Which was rather amazing.  In December she started me on 150mg day 3-7. My progesterone was 0.6 again. So disheartening. I never saw a positive surge at all.

My OB/GYN has referred us to a RE. My appointment is Monday, I'm so nervous and excited to have some answers and treatment options. We have never had kids before. My husband is 30 and I just turned 28.

Thanks everyone!! So happy to start having a support group!

  • @ashcip welcome! Going to the RE for the first time is exciting and scary at the same time! Just remember that it will be a discovery consultation. The RE will want to get lots more blood work and possibly schedule some additional tests before you'll get many "answers" or a treatment plan. However, it's a positive first step in the right direction! OBGYNs usually exhaust all their resources first before referring you to an RE so stay positive, ask lots of questions and take notes!!!

  • hi @ashcip - welcome. Sorry to hear about your struggles with pcos (and clomid!) but glad you have since been referred to an RE. I remember being at that point (years ago now, but I remember it vividly) and just feeling like finally I was moving forward in the direction I was supposed to be to get the answers and treatment I needed. It's so exciting, yet of course nerve-wracking wondering what will come of it all. We've (most) all been there, and can totally empathize with what you're going through. The wait can be torturous, but well worth it. Wishing you much success on this new journey!

  • Well appointment is done. They did bloodwork. Will be going back next monday for my hsg exam. My husband gets to do his SA. The pure cost just kills me. We have insurance but nothing for infertility treatment. Just for all the diagnostic testing, it will cost us $1000. which is a discount from the $1500 if we paid for each test separately. this will be an expensive road. =[ We won't be able to start treatment til around April due to these cost. Which is really upsetting for me. But only so much money in our world.
