Girl Name, again.

I asked about a girl name before, and we decided to go with something else. These are our top names (for now ;) ). As far as Michaela goes, I'm concerned with people reading it incorrectly and pronouncing it "Michael -uh" instead of "mah-Kayla." Would an alternate spelling (like Makayla) be acceptable? I've always considered anything other than Michaela to be wrong, but I can't decide if the pronunciation issue outweighs the alternate spelling issue. Thanks!

Re: Girl Name, again.

  • Harper Rose or Harper Mae would be my top choices.

  • Micheala is the proper spelling and presents best. I agree I like it with Rose or Charlotte is nice. Harper will be time stamped and already is.

  • Stick with the proper spelling. Makayla looks teen mommy and gets lost in the makennas and MacKenzies
  • I'd be surprised if anyone couldn't pronounce Michaela properly. It's the right way of spelling it-- I've had students with many variations and no matter how sweet and smart they are, the spelling makes me wonder what the parents were thinking. Young kids might have trouble sounding it out but all adults should be familiar with Michaela.
  • I think most people know how to pronounce Michaela so I wouldn't dumb down down the spelling. I voted for Michaela Belle. I love Belle for a middle name.
  • I love the name Michaela, I'm one to like it spelled like MaKayla. That's how I prefer it. I don't think you will have pronunciation problems with it spelled as Michaela.

I like everyone's suggestion of Rose as a mn. I voted for Belle.

  • I like Michaela Rose. I would spell it correctly. People will know how to pronounce it.
  • Thanks everyone! The reason I asked about pronunciation is because I actually have encountered people who side eyed the name, thinking it was Michael-uh. I feel a lot better about it now though, thank you!

  • I love Michaela and I've seen it spelled a ridiculous amount of ways but never once have I seen it spelled correctly IRL. It would be so refreshing!

  • Spell michaela correctly. I think enough people are familiar with the name.
