@Bringmemylongswordho and @PinkLady2015 My sister/best friend/other half is Renee and I was definitely considering Maxine Renee My husband isn't huge on using names of people know, but has pretty much deferred to me on the middle name for a girl since the boy middle name was his. Maybe we'll stick with that unless something else jumps out at us.
What about a play on Renee and go with Maxine Wren?
For a boy DH likes Easton Alan. I am not completely sold on it yet, but it's growing on me. I also like Lincoln Alan.
For a girl first name will be Margaret (family name) we are thinking Ann as a middle and Mack as a nickname (last name starts with a K). I would like a different A middle name but I can't think of anything that sounds good.
Margaret Amy? or Margaret Alyssa? Couple of suggestions for you. I know a lot of times an "A" as a middle initial is Ann.
Also, not sure if anyone else has the tinder for baby names app. You and your Partner download it and sync it and then only names you both like appear in the favorites section. Kind of handy. It's called Baby Names and has an egg for a logo
The only thing that I hate about this app, is you cannot filter the names. So I kept getting tons of trendy names, when that isn't my style. There was no way to nix those, so I had to swipe past a few hundred names, and then finally gave up and lost interest.
Another good one, is Nametrix. It will give you the name, pronounce the name (by pushing on the little sound icon), you can click on the heart to save it, you can search for names, look at names popular by year, scroll through names as a list (they are highlighted in pink and blue depending on if they are masculine or feminine), when you click on the name, you can see a graph of how popular it is through the years, when it peaked, which country it is most popular in (it will show you the top four countries), the number it is on the SSA name list, similar female names, similar male names, variants, a map of the US with color coded states according to where it is most popular, etc. It has SO much information and has been my favorite baby naming app so far!
@fleurdelakeview I'm glad I'm not the only one whose husband can't have a serious discussion. He suggested we name her Candy because he wants her to have a stripper name and he likes candy.

What do people think of the name Jack is it to plain or sound like a nickname? Our last name is two syllables so I wasn't sure if that sounded okay. Suggestions welcome I'm not totally sold on it
@Lindsayleigh1989 I don't always love nicknames as full names, I prefer a longer given name with the shorter nickname (this is totally just a preference, I don't have a huge rationale behind my feelings). BUT Jack is one of my exceptions and I would totally use it if I didn't have a little Jaxon in my life.
Alright, here's an update on my name dilemma. I know you were all waiting anxiously...
We're set on Max Robert for a boy. And we've agreed that if it's a girl, we'll go with Maxine. My husband originally just wanted Max for a girl, but I'm more comfortable with her having a full girl name and then Max as a nickname. I wasn't excited about Maxine initially, but then I started picturing a little chipmunk cheeked girl (what I looked like as a child) named Maxine, and it gets more adorable as a picture it.
The question is... Middle name? Any suggestions? Our last name is three syllables and starts with a U (it's a little rough), so nothing too long. I'm thinking 2 syllables might sound best. Or one, but I can't think of any one syllable girl names that go well.
@DominiqueU I actually really like Maxine! And the nickname Max is cute. Not all of these are my personal "style" but I focused more on flow since I'm not sure what types of names fit best for you
One-two sylliable middle names: Maxine Grace Maxine June Maxine Rose Maxine Kay Maxine Pearl Maxine Quinn Maxine Rae Maxine Sloane Maxine Violet Maxine Willa
Maxine Fiona (I know it's 3 but it's still relatively short)
Any family names you might want to use? Or names you kind of like? Might give us more of an idea of style
@DobbysSock I really don't have a specific style, which might be why I'm so hopeless with this. Lol. As of right now (after I read all the suggestions to my husband), we've got Maxine Quinn and Maxine Renee (Renee after my sister) on the maybe list.
We've had the same girl name picked out for all our boys which is what we will use for this one, we find out in three weeks but the tech said baby looks girly. The name is Alice Catherine, Catherine being a family name. Dh has an older sister who was adopted, who we have become closer to in the last few years who sort of jokingly said we should name the baby after her. Her name is Julia. I have a lot of Julia's on my side of the family already, but I was thinking of maybe adding in Juliet. Alice Catherine Juliet S (one syllable last name). Too much? Not really honoring her? We have one other child with two middle names so I don't mind using two if they have significance.
@emnoahmom I personally think a name can be honouring a loved one whether it's the exact name or not. DD's name is a different name, but similar enough to my mom's that I consider it honouring her. If we have a little girl again the name will be similar, but different, to my Godmother's again honouring her. Not everyone agrees with this though so I guess it's up to your interpretation? If someone told me their child's name was in honour of me, even if it was a slightly different name, I would be very touched.
My only concern about two middle names is wondering whether it's a pain in the butt to fill out forms, but I don't really think that's a huge deal. I feel like Alice and Juliet are short enough with a one syllable last name that the name doesn't really become too much a mouthful. All really beautiful names! Love them.

My son is named Jack. While it started as a nickname, it's definitely a standalone name. I like it because it's a name that can grow with the child.
I feel bad, for ds I started writing down name ideas as soon as I got my bfp! For this poor baby I have a couple ideas but nothing serious! We have our anatomy scan feb 16th so hopefully then will get on the ball more!
I don't really have a list of names to share yet, but feel free to tell me what girl names you think sound good with Norah (DD1). I just don't really like top 10 names, but other than that, I'm open to ideas.
My dd is Sarah and I really like Norah for another girl, but my husband already vetoed that one... So I will suggest Sarah for you
@Lindsayleigh1989- I really prefer John nn Jack. While I know he was a complete dog, I think the JFK reference is too good to pass up. It is just so classic American and gives the person more options if they want a more a more formal John at work etc.
Here's my list of girl name contenders (we have an Italian last name, neither of our first names are Italian, though. DD's names are actually Greek LOL. I'm not attached to any origin type) Our last name is one letter off from a very common hispanic last name so gets mispronounced a lot. That's my one deterrent for the more "ethnic" sounding names as first names. I feel like that will make last name mispronunciation more likely.
Carolina (pronounced like CaroLEEna, not like N. or S. Carolina) Evelina Emmeline Evangeline Giada Jenna Kiera (Ciara, I think, is the original spelling. DD and I both have "C" names. I just feel like using Ciara would get the pronunciation like the R&B artist Ciara- "See-Air-A") Maya (Maia, Mya... ugh, which one to choose is part of the problem) Michelina Miriam (LOVE nn Miri) Simone Viviana
@quartz02 I really love Miriam from your list- so classy and timeless and Miri is definitely a sweet nn. I worry that Carolina is going to be mispronounced her entire life though.
After all that help from everyone finding a middle name to go with Maxine, we went to the doctor at 15 weeks 3 days and were immediately confronted with a penis nub on the ultrasound. Max Robert it is!

@quartz02 I love Evangeline, Giada, Maya (this is my favourite spelling), Miriam, Simone, and Viviana. Good list!
My favourite is probably Evangeline - I love the nickname Evie but that name gives so many options for nicknames.
@DominiqueU congrats on a little boy! I love the name Max. I know two little Max's (in different towns) and they are both just the cutest. One dark haired with a cheeky little smile, and the other blond, curly hair and huge blue eyes.
I just want to thank you ladies for being so civil throughout this thread. It's a breath of fresh air to be able to have women say "that name is not my style. If you're looking for suggestions how about x,y, or z." instead of "my eyes are bleeding"
After all that help from everyone finding a middle name to go with Maxine, we went to the doctor at 15 weeks 3 days and were immediately confronted with a penis nub on the ultrasound. Max Robert it is!
@DominiqueU my husband is a Max and I think it's a pretty great name myself! Adorable for a kid, but it grows well too!
So originally I brought the name Eden Ann into the relationship because I've always been in love with it (Ann was my mothers middle name, and I just love the name Eden, it's classic but you don't hear it often so it's also unique) and as luck would have it hubby loved it too. Then one night last week we were laying in bed and hubby had his legs draped over me and he said "your skin is so hot, it's like youre a little ember!" (My skin has been super warm the whole pregnancy) And something just clicked and I said "Ember, that would be a beautiful name." And hubby agreed. So now I'm torn!
Eden Ann Ember Ann
both are unique like I want, but I love the little story that goes with Ember! Gah!
As for a boy, again I brought Kael as a boys name I've always wanted and hubby loved it, so I thought we were set with Kael Kristopher (hubbys middle name). And then at one point I asked for his suggestion because I essentially picked both names and wanted to know what he likes out of curiosity, and he said he liked the name Kellen....and now I love that name!! We're both Irish so we love the idea of using Gaelic names, and both are. Ugh don't know what to do!
Kael Kristopher Kellen Kristopher
I'm so torn on all names! At this point were keeping all names on the table and we may just let baby decide when we meet him/her! Still, I'd love to hear thoughts!
I'm positive she would spend a lot of her life going "EMBER, not AMBer!" but it honestly doesn't deter me too much. My name is Aimee and I've spent my whole life correcting the spelling, so I know it's obnoxious but at this point I'm also very "meh" about it. I wouldn't like my name if it weren't for the way it was spelled.
Plus I think Emmy is a cute nickname (though I also think Edie is cute too E-D, not Eddie lol)
maddmama Thanks for that list. I love the name June, but DH pointed out "June Frost" . My dad did not like th initial JD, and once we found out that its a girl we decided on maybe an A name and Abigail or Addison are on the top of the list now.
@LittleLunarMouse Ember is a guilty pleasure name of mine. I had a coworker with a little girl Ember and I thought it was really cute. She was a little firecracker too, her name fit her perfectly. I don't think anyone ever mistook it for Amber, although I guess regionally an accent might affect how similar they sound. I also like Eden but Ember has the edge for me because of my association.
I like Kellen a bit more than Kael. How is Kael pronounced? Is it Kay-el or like Kale?

@DominqueU I really like the suggestion of Maxine Renee, especially with the family significance. It's got a nice flow!
@LindsayLeigh1989 Squirrel Leigh would be the feminine spelling
Married: May 16th 2015
i really like a lot of these names here though!
