Have you switched car seats / stroller positions yet?

Good morning ladies! Have you switched from your infant car seat yet? I think my LO is ready (length wise) but being that he's not sitting up fully unassisted I am not as excited about having him forward facing when in the stroller (vs having him facing me with the infant car seat adapter). I assume I will just be able to recline him pretty far?

Have most of you already done the switch?

Re: Have you switched car seats / stroller positions yet?

  • I haven't and I dont plan on doing it anytime soon. Its so convient right now with the infant seat. I'll be keeping him in it until he reaches the weight maximum for the seat.

  • Yeah I agree, the infant seat is easier to keep him contained! He's pretty long though, but I'm going to keep it as long as possible
  • We switched from the infant car seat to a convertible at 4 months. LO is pretty chunky and tall, he was 24 inches at 4 months. He was just squished and uncomfortable in his car seat. It is a little more hectic not being able to grab the infant seat but he sits just fine in any strollers as well as the buggy or high chairs at restaurants. We also bring the bumbo multi with us if were out n about for the day. We currently have the Graco 65 convertible.  I went to https://csftl.org/ to decide on one, this website is incredible helpful best of luck!
  • We switched to a convertible car seat at around 3.5 months because LO HATED his infant car seat.  Every car ride was a scream fest.  Ever since we switched, he's a happy traveler.  It's been an adjustment to have to take him out of his sleep at the end of rides (which can be a pain if he's sleeping)  and I'm sure it would be more convenient to just take him in his infant seat to restaurants and such, but I think he's happy to have more room to move around.  And I'm happy to not have to lug that seat around.  Oh, we've tried a few stroller rides and he's fine with it!
  • Hmmmm, I think he's almost 28 inches now (technically I can get to 30'' with my Cybex) but to me it looks like his little toes are sticking out.  It doesn't touch the seat when he's in the car, but I figure it's time to change.  Looks like no more restaurants until I can have him sitting upright for extended periods of time without fusssssing. At least when we went to restaurants with the stroller, I could rock it or he'd fall asleep because he was so cozy. Oh well!
  • My little guy still fits comfortably in his Maxi Cosi infant car seat and he still rides in the bassinet feature facing me when in his stroller. I usually don't switch until he's sitting up. Right now at 4 months he's 11lbs and 24.5 inches.
  • No. Still in the infant bucket. He's 27 inches now at 5 months. It doesn't matter if their legs are over the edge, the height part that matters is their head being the proper height below the top of the shell. I can't really pick him up in the bucket anymore, but I prefer it because he's still so floppy and little I don't see the convertible seat being comfy for him yet.

From a safety standpoint, it doesn't matter at all if their feet are sticking out or even touching the seat. As long as their head is more than an inch from the top of the shell and they're under the weight limit, you're good.

We still have DD in her infant seat and don't plan on moving her until we have too. She's in the 90th percentile too, so she's not small! She's really heavy and hard to carry in the seat, but it's so much easier being able to get her strapped in and situated inside. Especially now that it's winter. I'm hoping we can make the infant seat last until it starts warming up.
  • Switched at 3 months. I never carry the infant seat anywhere and I hold her at restaurants (we eat out 2-4x a week) so there was no convenience factor for me. Stroller wise she is fine if the seat is semi reclined.

My daughter is 5 months now and I still have her in it, and don't want to switch anytime soon. My boys were bigger than her, and I switched them at 6 and 4 (!) months. They were about 18 or so lbs when I switched them. She is only 14. It was kind of a challenge since they couldn't sit well in carts at first, or at restaurants and that type of thing. She is in a convertible with grandma during the week a couple days, but they take the infant seat along with them for stores and such.
  • I just started taking her for rides in the stroller without it because I like to use her bundle me in the cold and I think it's a little bulky for he car seat to use in the stroller. She sits fine in the stroller. She is not sitting up unassisted but she is fine. From what I understand they can go in the regular part of the stroller as long as they can hold their head up. I still think I like the infant seat in the stroller better because she is Facing me. We are going to have to get a new seat soon because she is 28 inches and her seat only goes to 32. The switch probably won't be a big deal since I baby wear a lot and don't usually take her in her seat anyway.
  • When I first read this I thought you meant you wanted to switch him to a front facing car seat. Haha. That's not even legal in my state. Anyway

My LO can sit really well now which helps, but I've had her in the stroller since day 1. My new double (that I LOVE) doesn't take my infant seat. I have a stroller that I can change the seats facing me, which does help I guess.

  • We switched to a 4 in one graco at 4 months, hes 20 weeks now. I have been putting him in the jogging stroller since early december without the infant car seat because hes really hard to feed in the car seat while were out and much easier in the stroller. He also loves to kick his legs and he is pretty reclined in the jogger and can kick to his hearts delight. The logistics of taking him out and putting him back in and shopping are a bit of a pain but hes 27 inches at his 4 month appointment and the chicco key fit 30 is 30 lbs or 30 inches and he was too uncomfortable in it. I feel it was too heavy on my arm and bulky when I used the car seat- He grew tooooo fast! lol
