Reminder - Do Your Kegels!

Every time I read something about doing kegels, I start doing them, but mostly I forget and never do them. I do look at TB every day though, so thought I'd post this here to help anyone who needs a reminder that they should multi-task and get their kegels in while they're bumping.

Anyone have any pro-kegel tips? Or kegel gifs?

Lol, I literally started kegel-ing as soon as I read the title.
  • Thank you! Yes, post this everyday! I was really good about this in the beginning but nowadays I only do them if I read something about it, I keep forgetting!
  • Haha thank you! We should at least make it a point to drop the word Kegel into a post every day so we'll do them.

  • Ok, no one make fun of me, but since I have been snissing up a storm (ew) with every cough and sneeze of this cold I have actually made it a point to do Kegels every other hour at quarter past while at work. I am constantly looking at the clock so when it hits 8:15, 10:15, 12:15 etc I am working those muscles. But I agree that a daily thread would help keep all of us on track.

  • I have a Fitbit charge HR and have it set to vibrate at certain times in the day to remind me to do them. I kept forgetting at first so this helps :)
  • Doing them now! Thanks for the reminder!
  • @kurrant YES! I have a Fitbit Charge HR too so I should totally set it to vibrate. I didn't even think of that. Thanks for the tip

  • @TheThornBird Thanks for the additional info! Going to study this later to figure out what things I need to do to balance out the kegel action and get my pelvic floor in prime fighting condition.
  • Kegels are good, but it is possible to overdue it. I've heard that squats are actually more important for labor.

That said, I try to do 50 a day. The way I accomplish this is by doing 10 for every stop light I hit on my way to work. It works out for me (except on the weekends. Oops!)

Omg thank you for this. I have been (purposely) forgetting to do my kegels haha. I hate doing them so much, but I know I really really need to!

I have heard the same. And on a vanity side, I started doing squats with as much weight as I could take in summer 2014. After a year, I seriously had the best booty of my life. And my thighs got thinner. Seriously, weight training changed my life.

I believe all this, but I am so far from overdoing anything like this. And it's easy to do kegels at work without anyone noticing, but don't feel like being the girl that's just squatting all day. So, mental note: kegel at work, squat when I get home!
  • I've never done kegels, ever, and I'm not about to start anytime soon.

I'm on mobile so i can't see if you have a siggy. Have you given birth before? You might change your mind... ;)

  • Right on @TheThornBird. I was just about to jump in to give that info. Yep, balance those kegals with squats and stretches ladies! Kegels without stretching and toning of adjoining muscles contributes to pelvic floor issues.

Haha, true, but it's usually acceptable at the gym! And bonus they have squat bars and such. ;)

I actually had pelvic floor issues so I couldn't kegel...

Wonder if I should start now.

If I'm remembering correctly, @SweetBriarBee is on #8. Unless I'm thinking of someone else, but I'm pretty sure it's her because every time I see that somewhere I'm super impressed. So if SweetBriar doesn't want to do kegels, SweetBriar probably doesn't have to do kegels. I, on the other hand, am on my first pregnancy and don't have that confidence! Doing more right now...

  • :D Yeah, that would be me. I'm super…not into all the things we're supposed to do during pregnancy. It hasn't screwed me so far, I figure I should just stay the course. Squats, though, I'd do squats.
  • I try to do my kegels when I'm taking rep breaks from my squats. I'm not intense about either- I can usually count about 20-30 squats and about 10-29 kegels. I know they're probably not that helpful for birth (like pp have said, I've read it's more about the yoga squat and endurance for birth) but I've heard lots of women saying the kegels helped them stay closer to pre birth vagina wise.
  • I am not worried about birth since I know it is going to be a RCS. I just want to stop peeing myself!

  • I'm on baby #3 and I never did/do Kegels. Never peed my pants, either. I think it's a ruckus. haha
  • Whoops forgot about kegels for at least 5 days. Here's your daily kegels reminder ladies!
  • And squats!

  • I will never make it to 300, though. Just did 10. I'm huffing.

  • Even with kegels, I've now reached a new level of laughter called "peed a little it was so funny"
  • So one of my doctors at work just told me a horror story about how after she had her son and her uterus would partially fall out... literally... and she uses this device (forget the exact name now) to pretty much push it back in and hold in there.. Whaaaaaat?! I will be doing kegels 24/7. I know this doesn't happen to everyone but I am not taking any chances. PERIOD.

No!!!!!!!!!!!! This is horrifying. But on the plus side, does this mean that when you are done having babies you can just let it fall all the way out and be done with it?

WTF?! As if pregnant ladies don't already have anxiety and stress worrying about baby's health, their own health, body image and general bad feeling to name a few . . . why do people feel the need to tell terror stories to us too boot?! That sounds horrifying to me! If I made a list of terrible things people told me have happened or could happen it would be enough to fill a darn book! Why would anyone tell you that?!  :s
  • @pascal86 I know! Isn't that awful?! and she said she is trying to get a hysterectomy now and wants them to just take ALL her baby making parts and be done with it. So I'm thinking after my 2nd baby... just take it all so it doesn't end up falling out while walking down the grocery store isle one day. K, thanks!

@Kurrant yeah not sure why other women tell things like that to us when we are pregnant... I guess maybe I shouldn't have stated it on here either, haha. But I didn't want to suffer alone and don't want my fellow bumpers to lose their uterus.. so think of it more as a kegel motivator. Haha. Pregnancy and childbirth does a number on the body!

  • Uterine prolapse and vaginal prolapse is a possibility after birth/a pregnancy, but it's not super common (I think it hovers around 10% overall) and it's not always complete. My OB told me that it's more common for everything to be saggy initially, then slowly tighten back up again and return to a proper position...or at least close. I was worried about this when I first started working out again postpartum and felt like everything was going to just fall out. Turns out it's a common sensation, but things don't actually move that low for most people. Injury to the pelvic floor during pregnancy or birth is a risk factor.
