Baby boy name Waylon?

I'm looking for opinions on the baby boy name Waylon.  We already have a son Wyatt and I think the names go together wonderfully, and I love the classic sound of the name.  My husband loves the name, but i'm not 100% sold.  I really like it but I think my hangup is my association with singer Waylon Jennings.  Do others automatically think of Waylon Jennings when hearing this name?  I am a huge over-thinking, really struggled naming our 1st LO and tend to believe I'm over-thinking this one too.........but thought I'd ask.  THank you for your feedback!

I thinks it's very country and immediate think of Waylon Jennings. It's also very matchy with Wyatt

    All of this

  • I like Waylon, but not with Wyatt.

I also think of Smithers from the Simpsons.
  • Waylon is awful. Sorry.
  • My nephew's name is Waylon. Yes, I immediately think of Waylon Jennings but that isn't a bad thing. I love the name Waylon but K think it is too close with Wyatt.

  • I have never heard of Waylon Jennings but I do think Waylon and Wyatt are too matchy.
  • I automatically thought Waylon Jennings. But it's a little country & so is Wyatt IMO. The names go together but not sure you want to be stuck in W-ville.
  • Agree with all of the previous posters. I instantly think of Jennings, and I think that it is too close to Wyatt

  • Waylon is a nice name, but not with Wyatt. It's a little much.

  • I disagree. I think the names go nicely together.
  • I don't think I was ready for this much honesty!  Kidding - I appreciate the feedback.  What does being "matchy"
even mean and why do people avoid it?
  • Yes I think of Waylon Jennings. No, I don't think the names are too matchy.
  • I immediately think of Waylon Jennings. Which is better than thinking of Shooter Jennings...so...

That said, it's not my favorite. However, it's your child, so your opinion of it matters more than mine. I do not mind it at all with Wyatt. I think they make a nice sibset.

  • not with his brothers name

^^this... The names are a little too similar

Matchy can vary from person to person. A lot of people avoid same letters to avoid looking "Duggarish" , many people avoid names that end in the same sound, or letters like ley, er, son, on, en etc  Matchy can be two flower names, two surnames, in your case both names a lot of people associate with being very country in style.  Plus personally to me there aren't many W names to begin with so to have two boys with W country style names it's just to much.

"Matchy? Means the names sound similar or match in a pop culture way. It really comes down to personal preference. Examples would be siblings named Hayden and Hayley, jack and Jill or this glorious tumblr post that took me way too long to refind.

  • My cousin named her son Waylon. I thought it was weird at first, but it's grown on me, so I actually think of him before Waylon Jennings, now. Having two W names is a little silly, but I don't think the names are too matchy since they don't rhyme in any way.

  • I've never heard of Waylon Jennings, so my mind didn't go there.  I'm not personally a fan of the name, but it's a fine choice otherwise.  I do think that Wyatt and Waylon sound a little silly together as a sibset, but I'm not a fan of using the same first letter for all kids either.  Overall, if it's the name that you absolutely love, I don't think that you'd be doing your son(s) a disservice with the name.

  • Wyatt and Wade would bother me less than Wyatt and Waylon. Plus Wyatt is just a significantly better name than Waylon.
  • Our oldest son is Jacob Waylon. I LOVE it as a middle name.
  • Before I even read the thread and just read the title, I thought "Waylon... like... Waylon Jennings?"

I've heard of Waylon Jennings. I've also heard of Waylon Smithers :) but I love it. It's great! I wouldn't choose it but I still love it.
  • Might be an unpopular opinion here but I LOVE Waylon, it was on my short list (I also love Waylon Jennings though...). I think it goes great with Wyatt, which is our babies name! My husband wants to name our next son (should we have another) Morgan because it was Wyatt Earps brothers name, if you're into something like that! Lol.
  • I like Waylon. I do think of Waylon Jennings, but that's not a bad thing. It also to me has always been a name that feels... Independent. Separately from the Jennings connection.

With Wyatt, it does sound matchy. Depends on how you feel about that. Me personally, I don't start to side eye matchy in this case unless you have a third kid and also give them a W name.

I know this is an incredibly old post (just came across it) but was wondering if you went with Waylon. Curious because our 12 year old son's name is Wyatt and our 2 year old son's name is Waylon. I LOVE the names together. We also have a 7 month old daughter named Emma.

I love Waylon and Wyatt and think the 2 go great together.  They have a good wholesome country feel.  I say do it!

ETA just now noticed how old this post is... oops!
