DH and I have a hard time with girl names - and both have strong feelings about our criteria... we want something strong yet feminine, classic, and generally sway away from nicknames. Getting to a name for DD1 (Maura) was a trial, but we love it and now face the same issues for DD2. While we have stayed at the bottom of the popularity lists, we keep coming back to Emma. We both love it and think it's a good fit with Maura, but are hesitating because of the popularity. For background, I have a relatively popular name for my birth year (about the same # born the same year as me as last year for Emma in the US) and while I do encounter other people with the same name, it isn't like my name is Jennifer and it doesn't bother me.

I think Emma is a beautiful name. However, it is so overdone and, for me, it has completely lost its luster. My daughter is 3.5 and has three in her preschool class - two of which have the same middle name (Rose). Already when I refer to Emma my daughter says "which one?" That being said, if that doesn't matter to you at all and it sounds like you somewhat lived it with your name, go for it. It is a classically beautiful name and so much better than many out there. I know the struggle is real trying to find a name you both love! 

BTW, Maura was on the list for my DD1's name - beautiful!

I like Emma as a name and find it more classic popular than dated trendy popular. That said I wouldn't personally do Maura and Emma I would look for a different ending myself

This was sort of a last ditch effort to see if people would convince me to go for it... Not so.

All of those are really pretty names and definitely not over-used! I am trying to pick my favorite, but I like them all - maybe Rebecca?

Maura was on our list for DS had be been a DD. Other names we considered since we have a similar naming style:
Leah
Margaret
Rachel
Jane
Elizabeth

And then Claire is our DD.

Oooh, Tess is lovely. Kathleen is nice as well, but I don't care for the nn Kathy.

Honestly, if I loved a name enough I would use it no matter the popularity.. (but only if it's a classic name, which Emma definitely is!)

I actually really like Maura and Emma together. I don't think they are too similar.

But I also love Tess! And I think Maura and Tess are maybe even better together. My vote is Tess

Go with your first choice Emma. I'm in the same boat with Emma and Lucy. But I feel like every time if I pick Lucy I would regret not using Emma in the long run.
