Too plain? What about with a one syllable LN? It's one of my favorites of all time and I finally got DH on board except he thinks she would get called "plain Jane".
I think it's a bit plain, but a plain name =/= a plain personality! I wouldn't worry too much about "plain Jane" because people can really make fun of anything. It's a classic name. If you like it, use it! I would probably pair it with a more interesting middle name but that's just my style.
Lovely name. It was on my shortlist but we can't use it (doesn't work in Swedish, they can't pronounce the "J")! It's not plain, it's simple and classic.
I also love Jane, and have a friend with that name. I agree with @ambercakes92, kids will find a way to make fun of anyone if they want to. "Plain Jane" isn't bad in comparison to some of the things I hear these days, unfortunately. If you love it, use it!
Thanks for the feedback! Middle name might be Magnolia which has family ties though there is a type of Magnolia tree called the Jane so we aren't sold on the MN yet. It will be less plain for sure, though!
I love the name Jane. One of my coworkers (an elementary teacher) just used it for her daughter in August, and they have a one-syllable last name as well. I guess I never really thought about it, because the full name has a ring to it. Somewhat of a side-note: All of this teacher's students call her daughter "Baby Jane!" <-with the exclamation point... trust me. It's super cute.
Jane is so good. I have always loved the name, especially with Magnolia. (Which is also our daughters middle name). I would use Jane in a heart beat but our last name literally is Smith.

Jane is so good! And @holocene, you decided on Magnolia as a middle name?! Yayyyy! What did you decide on as her first name?

@gonetothesea - She's still not here! But, we're going with Olive Magnolia.
I'm surprised at how much that name has captured my heart. It wasn't even on my radar, but my 4 year old has been calling her Olive since I told him I was pregnant. Even before we found out she's a girl. I guess hearing him say it over and over made me fall in love with it. Now, we can't imagine her as anything else. My sister is Olivia, so the nn Liv or Livy is out, but we have caught ourselves referring to her as Ollie in quick conversation. Unexpected, but I like it!

My Olive came on Dec 10th. You're going to love having an Olive around. It's a great name we are so glad we chose it.
Jane is a perfect name! It's on our list too. So lovely. And I really adore it paired with magnolia! Honestly, even if my last name was smith I wouldn't shy away from Jane. Classic and beautiful!

DD2 is Jane Elisabeth. We call her Janie. It's a family name for us and we love it. I get the impression that others are very underwhelmed by the name (it is pretty simple, so I get it).

its not 1952 so nobody is going to call her plain Jane. Kids are way more creative with their insults these days
