Re: Weekly Randoms go here...

  • Just caught up from yesterday. We had almost 50 people at the house to watch the Masters. I'm exhausted today. I think that may have to be our last cookout until after baby comes.

    1. I'm sorry you're sick @junebabyjoy and I hope you feel better soon!

    2. BF was a weird thought before my first was born. I won't say i ever loved it, but we went strong for 14 or so months and I nursed DS2 for 7 before we changed to formula.

    3. Serious WTF to those moms who fed their babies Oreos and chocolate at 3 months! Those poor babies!

    4. My insurance company doesn't even cover a pump. It was apparently grandfathered in, and I was a little pissed, but we don't pay a monthly premium and have some other awesome perks like a low family out of pocket max, so I really can't complain.

  • Thank you for all the well wishes! On my second giant bag of fluids and got Zofran (or however that's spelled, I've just heard her say it!) in my system so I'm slowly coming back to life!

Feel better!  Zofran was my best friend the first 4 months.
DS 9/2/13 was a BFP from an IUI!
Triplets due 6/29/16 also from an IUI!

@crdo what a craptastic neighbor!! Your word "poophobic" made me chuckle. There is this company on the internet that will ship a bag of literal shit to anyone you want to ship it to. I think you can choose between different types of animal crap (dog, monkey, elephant, etc) and they ship it anonymously! I would totally be mailing him a bag of poo! Haha
Dying. Haha! That would be fantastic.

I wonder what this company's storage and packaging facility is like.

@crdo all I know is it doesn't sound like a place I would want to be employed! Haha. "What's your occupation?"... "I'm a shit collector for a shit shipping company"
    I can't.

    ---trapped...ugh--

    "Fecal logistics specialist",
"Fecal acquisitions coordinator", "Biological products procurement"

Hey, dirty jobs, but somebody's gotta do 'em, haha! Probably some serious sanitization and air filtration protocols, or at least I'd hope!  Haha.
  • @ahernandez16 I'm with you. Who cares who the in-laws hope the baby will look like. and if you don't like the shit they're doing, just tell them you don't like it and ask them to stop. and I hate it when people have their husbands fight all their personal battles with in-laws.
You know, I recently mentioned to in laws that doctor recommended a TDAP shot if they haven't had it for five years. I was nice and said I don't care (they won't be seeing the baby much) but wanted to let them know. Somehow I was "too forward" and "it came out of the blue" according to my husband and maybe contributed to her feelings getting hurt over us not wanting anyone in the waiting room during delivery. So buddy you handle your mother cause I have no more white gloves to give and don't care for stupid unnecessary drama like that.
  • We were at Petsmart yesterday and they had some "pets without parents" thing and some dogs to adopt. I was petting a sweet little black lab mix and the lady was talking about how sweet he is and isn't it surprising no one has adopted him that he has been with them for 4 years. As we were walking out (I'm banned from adopting any pets or things that need to be fed/loved right now) and the lady said "someone said he probably hasn't been adopted because he is black". Wait. What just happened here? Both my husband and I were like " I don't even know how to respond or what she meant or what the fack just happened."
That's totally a thing! My shelter throws a special a few times a year on adopting black cats and dogs. I don't know WHY it's a thing, but I've totally heard that before.

    Is dog racism a thing?

I have seen a lot of campaigns from our local SPCA encouraging people to adopt black cats because I guess they tend to get overlooked.

So this just made me laugh. But not in a funny way, in a what the actual fack did she mean? I'm over stuttering with my words trying to think of how I would respond to this. I would probably just have a deer in headlights look. I will say that a girl I know who works at our humane society shelter and she says that black cats are almost never adopted. They have to basically give them away, but that's a superstition thing. I've never heard anything like that about dogs.

People can be unbelievably stupid, superstitious, and irrational about the color of an animal's fur, so often black animals aren't adopted as easily as others. I've seen cats or dogs that are black are discounted specially to encourage adoptions. It's sad that their fur color matters to some people.

On the other side of the spectrum, around Halloween shelters and rescues will purposely not adopt black cats, dogs, and other pets out for fear of some sick f*ck abusing the animal in some weird ritual.

So, as ridiculous as it sounds, animals with black fur can be treated differently and overlooked sometimes.

I've seen this too. For some reason people tend to prefer lighter colored dogs. I was told this when I adopted my Chorkie from a rescue and the black dogs were less money.

Our last dog was black (current is tan) and I still miss that dog so much. He was my bestie

  • @junebabyjoy hope you're feeling better soon!

Welcome back @mkemommy I owe you a PM!

As for the black animals thing... my family adopted a black cat because of this reason (they tend to be overlooked etc.) he is pure evil. I know this has 0 correlation to his fur color but he's not helping their cause ;) he has a crazy side to him that all of a sudden he will flip out and scratch/bite the hell out of you till you bleed (completely unprovoked). I think its because he's part feral and was taken from his mom too early (the litter was given to a shelter way too young & my parents bottle fed him/had to bathe him in the beginning because he was such a baby).

  • @dennyandlee I'm with @kwife15 .  When it comes to in-laws I think the husband (or wife if it's your crazy family) should defend your family's decisions/wants/needs. Obviously small things are different (like I'd prefer not to eat chicken for dinner).  But for most things?  Yes.  There is a history with their own kid where they can do no wrong or can say things or whatever.  When the spouse comes in and says it then inevitably the in-laws start to blame the spouse for the opposition.  I don't mess with that.  Nope.

  • I've never heard that black dogs would be hard to get adopted. I can see the black cat thing just because of superstition. That being said we had two black stray cats show up and they were so sweet and loved DS so we kept them. We also had a all black German Shepard growing up and he was the absolute best dog ever. I don't get not getting an animal just because it's black.

  • I have enough dumb stories about my MIL that I could write a book at this point titled, "Why my MIL is Worse than Yours"
    For realsies.
Lemme know if you're bored and I'd be happy to share a random chapter.
I've seen snippets here and there about her epic awfulness.  She sounds like a real peach along with a few other MILs on here *cough* grandma shower *cough*
LOL I'd forgotten about grandma shower! Who was that? Has the epic event occurred yet?

Think it got cancelled? Don't remember who.

We used to have crazy mil stories thread I think. Interesting how it comes back like a zombie every once in a while. Thinking through boundaries as a FTM and FT parents is so hard.
  • So, my insurance company is being a total jerkface douche canoe ever since I switched jobs in February and got new insurance.  They won't cover my thyroid medicine.  I had my endo submit a prior authorization (per their instructions) that the denied without reviewing (charming, eh?) then submit an appeal (per their instructions).  They gave me an override for one month of the medication while the appeal was being put through.  Now, I need a refill in 2 days and they are claiming they never received the appeal that my doctor confirmed he submitted weeks ago. They refuse to give me another override while I get him to resubmit and call them daily until they confirm they received it this time.

Fun part of the story?  Several different levels of employee reactions when I asked them if it was the official position of this company that it is acceptable to risk my unborn baby's life because they lost an appeal.  They all squirm and try to sound professional without agreeing that is their position.  I'm losing it, ladies.  I finally handed the phone off to my husband who is waiting for a call back from a 3rd level of supervisor.  AAAAGHHH.

  • @lilwatz- WOW. I have no words. I'm SO sorry you're still dealing with that BS.

It's actually a fact that black dogs and cats are harder to adopt out. I don't think it's in a racist way haha they just aren't as wanted for some reason. It js true though unfortunately
  • @lilwatz It costs them more to pay those people on the phone than $9 for the medicine. Clowns. FX for the best possible resolve!
  • The black dog thing is real! We adopted a black lab and did some training with him afterward. Our trainer said that the black dog syndrome is a thing between animals too, so if you're trying to integrate a new black pet into your household that already has pets, that might contribute to it.

She said it's because dogs look at other dogs' facial expressions as a part of their body language when deciding if they like them or not. Since dogs don't have as many rods in their eyes (cones? I can never remember which is which... it's the one that helps us distinguish between light and dark) that dogs have more difficulty reading the facial expressions of dogs with black fur. So yes, sometimes other dogs don't love my sweet, chill dog just because he's black! But the funny thing is that he'll have just as much trouble with other black dogs, despite being black himself.

@kwife15 @WinniethePoohsPants  It was ME!!! Last I heard it was still happening, I'm not sure how I'll know if it actually happened as I don't think I am invited (fine by me, I wouldn't go anyway). I do have a shower Saturday that MIL is coming to so I will try to bring it up in passing. She tried to tell me a few weeks ago that she didn't even want the Grandma Shower anymore, oh brother.
That definitely gets in the top 10 of interesting reads on the June 16 board.
After all that and she doesn't want to have it anymore? I'm realllllly hoping this is because somebody spoke up about how nutty a grandma shower is. I'd love to know her reason!
I think my SIL told her it was a pretty dumb idea, thank goodness... I will get more details this weekend for you ladies!
    Good. That lady is cuckoo-pants!!
