So my SIL who is a professional cleaner came up to me at Easter dinner last night and started giving me this big nervous speech about how they don't have a lot of money this year but really want to do something special for the baby and would I mind if instead of gifts or throwing a shower she came and cleaned my apartment? I thought I was going to cry. I'm the world's worst housekeeper and am completely overwhelmed right now, and I also need absolutely zilch in the way of baby items. I am so psyched that someone is going to help me with this disaster zone!!

I am so jealous! Our house is a mess--I'm just not do great at taking care of it, plus our house is twice as big as the one I grew up in. What I most want my mom to give me as a gift when I have the baby is for someone to come clean my house every few weeks for a couple months. Ive talked to my husband, and have told him that when he gets his next promotion at work, I want to add an at least monthly housekeeper--but he says if I do that that there is no point in me staying home so I may as well go back to work. I think he expects me to be like his mom who worked and kept the house spotless--but I'm not. I'd rather cuddle on the couch with our daughter when she asks me to then tell her no and go scub the floors.

...because everything you'd accomplish by staying at home could be done by a housekeeper in one day each month? Right...

Exactly. I teach in a homeschool co-op on Mondays. On Tuesday and Thursday's I am in a moms group and we have various activities every week. On Wednesday I have Bible study, I teach virtual classes for a few hours, and our daughter has dance, and on Fridays our daughter has developmental therapy. It's not like I sit at home on my ass all day. He tells me I don't have to do that much stuff--but then I try to remind him how bad my PPD was after I had our daughter (it lasted at least 2 years too) and how getting out of the house every day really helped me get out of it--and I have made some great friends through my moms group. I refuse to give it up.
I have to share my hilarious Easter dinner story.. H and I went to Golden Corral last night, because I thought it sounded amazing--it was awful, with my parents. At the end of our meal our server points to H and asks if he is the father of my baby.. I was SHOCKED that someone would really ask me this so I respond with "yeah.. I mean, I think so anyway!". The server didn't think it was near as funny as I did, but my mom almost fell out of her chair she was laughing so hard. I just get so worked up over people that have zero filter when it comes to pregnant ladies!!
When our labor buddy goes into labor and we want to let the group know, are we supposed to start a thread or is there another way we go about letting everyone know?
Disclaimer: I hope we all keep these LO's in for much longer!!!! The 2 births just freaked me out and I want to be prepared

On my last BMB we started new threads. That way people could wish them good luck and such. In the title we would just put "@ labor buddy is in labor" or whatever is happening and then in the body we would give the necessary details and update as needed. Once baby was here we would add that as well but we always tried to leave out any details so mom could share them herself when she was able.

Along those same lines, when they mom's come back on to put her birth story, will it be it's own thread?

Best present ever!!! Every year I tell people in my family all I want for my birthday or Christmas is a maid service and nobody listenes. I think they think I am joking. Maybe some day
@fishwife799 - I'm with you! I keep asking for a gift card to a house cleaning service but it never happens. I don't know if they think that would be insulting but it isn't. I know my house can be a disaster area, I have come to terms with my shortcomings as a domestic goddess, please send help!

I think that's really up to you. I personally love reading birth stories so I'm perfectly fine with them posting to the board and then linking their story in the announcement thread. Some women will share their story in the announcement thread. So really it up to you. Just remember that the announcement thread is closed to comments other than the announcementa (which can unclude the birth story) so if you are an AW like me then you may want your own thread so people can comment

Okay, I love that idea!! I love reading the birth stories, too! But I forget to check the sticky threads. I don't have a labor buddy but I have no qualms about AW'ing my story!
Shit man. This is the first time this thread has intimidated me - I feel like I've been gone a year but it's only been a day. @Palisson - so after sahm'ing is done, what career is next on your list? Astronaut?
ALL UP IN YOUR BOX: Well, I really don't know. I'm not as restless as I sound- but I am a little Jack of all trades-y. My sister is a pilot so maybe she will be the astronaut. So, that's taken. I think I will end up going back to work as a full time attorney. My best guess is that I will end up going to work in whatever way I can for one of the national labs near us since they pay really well. I currently work for the State and I love the benefits of a 40 hour week, low fed loan repayments, loan forgiveness and a pension when I retire! But, we will see.
Interesting career path! I'm a biomedical engineer in medical device IP land, and do some deep brain mag/electrical stim and brain-targeted radiotherapy stuff. Brains are fun.
I was in e-phys at UPenn doing in vivo juxtacellular recordings of spontaneously firing serotonin positive neurons in the dorsal raphe of transgenic mouse models for anxiety/aggression/depression. So I made transgenic models based on 5HT1A and the Pet-1 promoter, then I did live surgeries with an electrode in a glass pipette recording cells that I found with an audio monitor. Law is a huge let down after a well-funded bench life.
I can understand what you mean about having your ego tied up in your career. Mine totally is, too. FTM here, but Ican see how it's a tough struggle to navigate: leaving a career you've busted ass to build vs all the awesome benefits of being a SAHM.
I'm scared. BUT VERY EXCITED! I think the most worrisome thing is not having my paycheck. I'm pretty accustomed to spending my money that I earn and I have no experience with this whole Gold Digging thing. I should start a new thread asking for advice.
All of these neuro people and lawyer people and other smart people and here I am, with my unused BS in journalism. I feel so inadequate!
Being a trained writer is nothing to scoff at! I consider journalist to be quite intelligent and rather academic. Your skills can translate super well to so many places- One that I was really surprised at: investigation. Being curious and knowing how to pull answers is a very important skill that not everyone has. If you can then clearly translate your findings to paper- you can work in so many fields (I'm not just talking law enforcement.) Plus I bet your facebook posts are really well written.
Re-birth stories: I love reading individual birth stories so I hope everyone makes their own thread!!! Plus all the birth announcement threads that I creep on other bmbs take forrrrrever to load bc of all the photos, and that realllllly inconvenient for me. So. Yah. Let's think about me here.

I kind of hate that they have limited all their birth stories to the announcement threads on some of the currents months. I love reading the stories and the birth story board is dead. Plus I'm too lazy to search for the stories on boards who had their babies months ago lol

Especially for regulars, I definitely want to see some individual threads! Bring on baby pictures & birth stories!

Same. I think March is like that because I don't see very many individual ones. It makes me sad because I'm too impatient to wait for the announcement thread to load up but I want to see the cute babies and read the stories.
I fully intend to be an AW and let @mrsb8214 make me my own thread during labor and then post a whole new one once the baby is here. I hope a lot of other people do the same thing.
Add me to the procrastinators club! This is our second and we have the big items. We planned to get all the other crap over time so it's not coming out of one paycheck. Well....we still need a ton (more like all) of little crap (diapers, bottles, pacifiers, wipes, soap/shampoo, etc.) and I just realized we only have 2-3 more pay checks max. I get paid monthly and on the last day of the month. Whooooops!
@TNvols27 - I got lemon lime flavored and I thought it was fine too. Mine was also cold, though, so maybe that's the key. It was just like drinking flat Sprite. I didn't get heartburn from it, but I got a wicked headache. That may have been the fact that I took it during my usual "snack time" and so I hadn't eaten in a long time. Hope you pass! And that your heartburn goes away once all of that sugar is out of your system....

Thank you! I hope you pass too! Lemon lime wasn't offered to me- only fruit punch and orange! I had heard terrible things about the fruit punch. Now that the drink is over with I've just got to get through the blood draw... And I HATE needles!

Good luck with the draw! If it helps at all, it's quick!
@Emztron500 Oh my gosh that sounds amazing and is literally the best present ever! I hate cleaning and I don't even have any kids to clean up after yet. I told H that once I get a real job we will have a person come in to clean the house at least monthly and he agreed.
I love the idea of the LB starting a thread that their buddy has gone into labor and then mom starting a thread to announce the birth! That's fully what I intended to do but didn't want to make anyone mad ha. I totally think that @ahernandez16 needs her own threads so I'm gonna AW the s*** out of her LO's labor and delivery!!

We've done a pretty good job consolidating threads here in June '16 with the exception of a fewwww *cough* starbrite *cough*. So, I think a huge influx of new threads from the regulars in June will be fine.

And all the randoms/lurkers coming out of the woodwork.
YEAH, I SEE YOU READING OUR THREADS AND SEEING HOW AWESOME WE ARE!
Sorry I was mia this weekend! Just an update, only two awkward moments during the Easter parties I attended. 1 unsolicited belly rub from DH's nonblood related Uncle (this is the second time he's done this), and one pat on the back for "not looking too fat yet" from Dh's 87 year old grandmother. Not too shabby.
I have a funny story from Easter: H's cousin has a little boy who is probably about 7ish and he always says the funniest things. So yesterday he was staring at my belly so finally I just said "it's getting bigger huh?" and he was like "yeah" then walked away. Then later I'm sitting eating and he came up to me and we have this conversation: Him: So how's that baby doing in there Me: Good, he's just getting bigger Him: Yeah I can tell (then walks away lol)
Then as I'm leaving I tell him bye and he says "Bye, good luck with that labor thing" I died laughing it was so cute and hilarious. He also told me the baby's name is Chewbacca
@WinniethePoohsPants ah. Old people are the worst/best. I walked into my grandma's house and my great grandma (88) said, "well how are you, chubby? You look cute fat."
I'm pretty sure my whole jaw hit the floor. Can't really smack an old lady so I just laughed forever. hahah.
@WinniethePoohsPants my only weird pregnancy comment was "for being almost 8 months, you're being very mature about it. I'm proud of you." Uh what? I'm almost 31, so how do people exactly handle it immaturely? "Most women whine and complain about how tired and sore they are, and you haven't done that once." Either you're not listening or you're subversively telling me not to bitch. So when standing up, I totally let out a moan.

@shannonrnbsn welp. I am a shamelessly immature pregnant woman based on that definition haha.
Hey me too! I was just caught off guard like I'm not allowed to let people know just what a facking glorious time this is.
All of the gloriousness. Constipation, aches, breathing difficulties/breathlessness, lack of bendability, feeling generally like a whale. EVERYONE should want to feel like this ALL THE F-ING TIME!
