Had my 38w(+4d) appt this morning. Blood pressure was high, so I went straight to the hospital from the office. Thankfully all my lab work was normal, and my pressure came down after an hour or so on the monitor! So they let me go home.

I had a cervical exam at my appt (3cm dilated!), which was uncomfortable but no worse than the lightening crotch I've been getting. After having contractions the whole time I was at the hospital, the nurse decided to check again to make sure it wasn't the real deal. It hurt so bad! I tensed up so much she had to stop and tell me to breathe. Just awful! Now I'm just uncomfortable and crampy and bleeding a bit, but not in labor. I really didn't want an induction, but now I'm disappointed I went through all this for nothing really.
  • Well, this week I had a growth ultrasound to check on the little one, since my fundal height was measuring small. He's at the 45th percentile, with nice chubby cheeks and a fat belly! The only downside is that I haven't progressed at all since last week (still 2.5 cm and 75% effaced). also, I came down with a cold, and it's rough finding a position where I can both be pain-free and breathe. And I'm really glad my husband is so excited for this baby, but if he looks happy and hopeful about me having gas pains one more time...

Holding steady at 1 cm.  But YOU GUYS, I caught a cold and it spread to my eyes.  Now I actually look how I feel!
  • 38w5d was having contractions that hurt when I was walking today and then period like cramps this afternoon. Lost my plug around 6 tonight...gah.

Have my sister's wedding shower on Saturday. Need to have his baby now or go into
Labor after 2 pm on Saturday.

Meanwhile our cat is freaking out running back and forth across the house at full speed and keeps checking on me.
  • ByeByeSpotts I wonder if our pets are sensing something.  My dog has been following me around all night looking very worried.  Normally she ignores me unless she wants something and saves all her love for DH.  I'm hoping it doesn't mean anything and I can hold out until after the snow passes.
  • @nackie yeah we've been saying he knows what's going on. Pets are funny like that! Also doesn't help it's almost a full moon and a storm is coming

@maureenmce They feel exactly like period cramps to me. Sharp pain in the front with lower back pain and crampy feeling.

Had my appointment today and baby is badly positioned (head not engaged) so the contractions aren't doing anything, plus they aren't lasting that long. So I've been in pain for days for no reason.

  • Ok I'm sure it's been talked about but I'm too uncomfortable to look.
Had my appointment today, tomorrow is my due date. She stripped my membranes and said I'm 3cm dilated and cervix is very soft and almost fully effaced.
Ever since I got home I have had pinkish brownish discharge every time I pee.
She said if it works my water should break in 48 hrs.
Having lots of contractions that are very intense but not getting closer than 6/7 mins apart.
I lost my mucus plug last week... So my question is anyone have pink discharge? Was labor close?
    Praying this is it!!

I didn't have mine stripped but I had 2 different checks on Tuesday. The discharge is completely normal and so is the cramping. However, I'm still pregnant...
  • 39w 4d.....due this Sunday. I had a sweep on Monday and lost my mucus plug the next morning. Been having some cramps....def stronger than the cramps I've been having the past couple of weeks but other than that nothing. Hoping she comes in the next 3 days

I hope you don't think I'm weird for saying this, but I'm jealous of all you ladies who have had sporadic contractions. I haven't had any and I really want to know what they feel like. I'm still hoping he bakes until his due date, but I want to know what they feel like so I can practice my breathing techniques.

ETA: The countdown is ON!! Finally 10 more days until the end of the month  :)
  • @DianaL92 I've only had a few, but they were just really uncomfortable, like bad cramps. Nothing nearly bad enough to practice my breathing with. On the other hand I got lots of practice when I dropped my laptop on my foot the other night. DH kept telling me to breathe instead of going to get me an ice pack. There was a lot of swearing involved on my part. Labor should be fun :)
  • Just pre-registered for my inducement on Sunday. I'm suppose to call an hour before to make sure they have a bed. Awesome right? Except, It's a full moon. I'm wigging out they are going to bump me!

Just got back from my appointment that I had scheduled before any signs of my mucous plug and she checked me I'm 2cm dilated and 60% effaced! So exciting to have some sort of action! She also offered to sweep my membranes which I wasn't thinking I was going to have done but I said heck with it and had her do it. Fingers crossed things keep progressing!
@Meg2016 - How was getting your membranes swept?  Did it hurt?
  • @clabgust Bleeding after a cervical check is normal, it unfortunately doesn't mean much. You could definitely be close...or not! It's hard to tell until contractions get closer together, water breaks, etc. I've had prodromal labor for over a week.

  • 40+1, I've been having what I presume are some kind of contractions since yesterday morning. At my NST yesterday the nurse said I was having them though I couldn't feel them at the time. Since then I've had a mix of menstrual cramp pains, tightening of the whole uterus, and sharp pains in my lower belly. All at different times, sometimes a few of the same in a row, sometimes nothing for a couple hours. No mucous plug, no cervix check, so I just don't know what to think! It's all just so frustrating. I'm terrified of labour so until now I haven't understood people saying they're excited to see signs, now I just want it to really start!
  • 40+1 here and a nasty cold is going through my house. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I hope he cooks a little longer until we can get rid of it!

  • @DianaL92 - If it makes you feel better, my contractions accomplished basically nothing.  I had them night before last and then... poof!  Nothing all day yesterday, nothing last night or today, no mucus plug or any other signs of labor, so it seems it was just an uncomfortable night for no reason.  Alas.
  • I thought I had lost some of my mucus plug before. I was sadly mistaken. I definitely lost the entire thing today. (Or what I hope is the entire thing). Why did no one tell me it was so big?
  • @maureenmce I'm in the same boat! Hang in there!

  • @maureenmce the end is in sight! Good luck :)
  • Had my 39week appt today. Still 0 dilation or effacement. I have until Wednesday to go into labor or they will set a date to induce. I really really really hope he comes before that!!! Come on full moon...
  • @Karenin I had one last Saturday and she said and did the same thing. Still pregnant! But like I said earlier, everyone in the house is sick so maybe my body knows better.

  • So I'm in labor. I was right about those not being braxton hick. 100 % effaced, stage 0 & 2 cms three hours ago.

Contractions 4-6 mins apart. Feels like those pregnancy Charlie horses but in your gut.

I'm still at it!!! Just got an epidural about an hour ago. I was SO exhausted. Horrible back labor. My lil baby cakes is sunny side up. I got stuck at 3 cm after being in labor for 36 hours. I couldn't handle it anymore. I did two rounds of stadol then decided on an epidural. Now it's just a waiting game. I love that I can actually wiggle my toes and move my legs. I had a phobia of being totally parlayed in my lower body by the epidural so I'm so glad that isn't the case. With the dose they have me on I can actually feel that I'm having a contraction but it doesn't hurt.
I finally delivered on 01/21/16. There were a lot of scares along the way but God is good, we made it through safely. Now we are snowed in at the hospital because of the huge snow storm that hit the east coast but we are well taken care of.

well I've had a stressful last few days. sitting at 39 weeks even today, due 1/30, and snowed in in Philadelphia. i'm not going anywhere unless it's in an ambulance. at my 38 week appointment (where i was 38w5d), i told my doc i had noticed decreased fetal movement. she wasn't messing around so sent me to L and D. when I landed there, they were very busy, so put me in the recovery room. once on the monitros, it was clear baby was ok and she was moving around like crazy. i was alone, but the staff was very busy and i could hear women screaming throughout the unit. while my blood pressure was perfect in the office (110/70), it skyrocketed while i was there. as someone who suffers from anxiety and who manages anxiety with exercise and is unable to exercise at 110 months pregnant, i knew that my bp was rising as a result of this anxiety. i had no other symptoms of preeclampsia, the ultrasound looked great, and all my labs were good. they did not let me leave and they also did not want to let me eat. finally, they told me i was going to have to stay and be induced, which i did not want at all. my baby has not engaged; her head is still way up and i knew this was a recipe for a c-section. she's not ready to come; let her marinate!  after 4 hours, they told me for sure, you're staying here. i protested and so they called my doc, who said, yes this patient has a history of anxiety, let her go. they told me i had to go back into the doc's office on friday morning for a check of blood pressure and if it wasn't good, I'd be back at L and D. i went by myself in the morning and was very anxious and upset, not having slept well the night before, and of course, the bp was up, so back i went. this time with a packed bag and my husband. once there, my bp was 100% normal except for the first reading, so ONCE AGAIN, they let me go, which was, as i said, my preference since not at 39 weeks until today and my baby is still not engaged.  now, with orders to "relax," i sit here with probably 2.5 feet of snow outside my house. i'm in the city, 2 miles from the hospital, but it's not drivable and of course, every little feeling in my body has me jumping.... i just need to make it to Monday! i'm just afraid that on Monday, when i go for a non-stress test, ill be so nervous about having high bp, i'll bring it on again! my stupid body will not listen to me, and baby girl is not ready either! it's us against the world!

  • @embogs My baby hasn't engaged yet either and it makes me sad/stressed. I'm sorry about your bp. Can you try to do some calming things before the appointment? Yoga, massage, spending time with DH? At the very least have a cup of tea and some breakfast or something nice like that before the appointment. You can also check your BP for free at CVS, so I do that whenever I worry something is wrong or I want to see how I am doing. Maybe if you do that it will help keep you calm? It works best if you do 2-3 readings in a few minutes so you can see it at the lower end (gets higher when you move around sometimes).

Obviously your husband will need to go to the service, can you go with him?

  • The best safe and natural way to reduce BP is to exclude all salt from your diet. Obviously you cant take it out of fruit, vegetables and other natural products, but exclude processed food, which was artificially added salt. This will lead to reduction in blood volume and will lower BP. There are also some calming herbal teas, but I don't know how safe they are during pregnancy
  • Thank you for the encouragement! Re: dropping, I've been exercising to the extent that I can-- walking, light yoga, pelvic tilts, etc! There are some tips on YouTube to check out.

  • @embogs good job for not letting them push you into an induction that you are not comfortable with! My baby is not engaged either and I would be damned if they tried to induce me before he is ready.
  • Just here to rant and grumble, only 40+2 but I've been having random contractions and stuff for the last 2 days and nothing seems to be progressing, and I'm getting bombarded with "Any news?" messages, feeling so fed up! At least I'm far enough North to miss the storms, sending positive thoughts to all of you stuck in the bad weather.
  • 39 weeks today. I'm a nurse and working 3 12 hour night shifts in a row in this weekend. Hoping it will bring on a little action but I have a feeling it's just gonna make me miserable. Mama is ready to meet you little man!!
  • @Ebiejay where are you? I'm in Maine and glad to be missing this snow too. However if it were to bring on labor id be all for it

haha maybe we should insist on daily massages and reflexology until labor.

  • @Knottie82382906 NH for me. Glad you're missing it too! To be fair, we're only 10 minutes from the hospital so we could definitely cope if we got some snow, and NH is awesome for keeping roads clear. I believe tonight is a full moon though so maybe that will bring on labour... lol
  • Yeah same with here, we're about 20 mins away but my Subaru can handle a snowy drive lol
  • Due date has arrived! ...With no sign of labor  Have not lost mucus plug or even experienced contractions other than a very occasional tightening in my stomach. I'm definitely ready for baby to make her appearance, so I've got wishful thinking I'll wake up to water breaking. Although she will probably be very stubborn like me and wait another week. I know she'll come when she's ready, but I hope that's soon because I've been ready for weeks!
  • Well the full moon didn't do much but I woke up this morning and lost my plug and now I think I'm leaking pink waters, so trying not to get too excited but I think he's on his way very soon! No obvious contractions yet but rather strong menstrual cramp pains now.
