Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Anyone diagnosed with a partial molar pregnancy?

I was just told this week that this is the reason I lost the baby. I've done a lot of research, but would like to hear about real life experiences. I'm still spotting 5 weeks after my d&c and am worried that this is a sign that it has become invasive. I still haven't had a real period and don't know my hcg levels yet (I'll find out on Tuesday).

Has anyone had a partial molar pregnancy? What happened after? Did you have to have a d&c or chemotherapy? How long were you told you'd have to wait before trying to have a baby again (I've read a year)?

I'm trying to be positive, but have to admit I'm pretty scared. Some reassurance would go a long way.

  • MrsEmmaLouise on PgAL had one.  You could page her over there and I'm sure she would share her story.

  • I am so sorry for your loss.  As if the loss of your little one wasn't enough, the pmp diagnosis is just crushing.  It is a scary diagnosis and a lot to take in.  I know several of us were given the "6 months-to 1 year sentence"  But, once our levels hit 0, the OB's backed off.  I think the OB's do that because it is a serious condition if it gets out of control.  My OB originally said 6 months.  But, after 1 month of 0 she cleared me (ended up being 4 months past m/c).  I was one of the pokey ones.  It took about 11 weeks for my levels to return to 0.

Huge hugs.  This is not how the story is supposed to go.

Also, sadly the pmp's seem to come in waves.  I have noticed a few posts lately re: pmp's

One of the top threads is medical/research info.   The format can be a little over whelming at 1st, but starts to make sense after you read through it a few times

  • I had a partial molar, diagnosed by pathology results from my D&C.  I'm having my levels checked weekly until they reach 0 (not there yet), then once a month for six months. After that six months we can TTC.

It's a scary diagnosis and definitely frustrating to have to wait so long before trying again. I have come to a point of acceptance and now am trying to stay patient.

Sorry for you loss and best wishes to you. Hopefully you will get some reassurance when you get your levels back this week.

I had one in nov 08, and it was very scary when I first got the news.  I went in for my NT scan at 12weeks and they thought I had a BO but pathology said it was a pmp.  Once I got the dx it had already been two weeks after my D&C but we started blood draws that day.   I went in weekly to watch them until they hit zero.  I can't remember what the numbers were exactly but each week they went down by half (500 to 250 to 125 and so on) and it took about six weeks.  Then after that I went to monthly blood draws to make sure my beta levels stayed at zero for six months.  After that we were given the green light to TTC again.  Six months is a pretty common wait time for pmps (one year for complete molars) but like qos said, a lot of docs will release you early after a few months of being at zero.

I got my first period 28days post D&C, and that was pretty typical of my cycles pre-m/c, and my levels weren't quite at zero yet (though for most people there levels need to hit zero before AF shows).

I don't think your prolonged spotting post D&C is anything to worry about, but I would bring it up to your OB when you talk to him/her next.  I know it can be scary, but the odds of needing chemo or follow up treatment is very low.  Try to stay positive the best you can, and lean on your SO and family during this difficult time.  ((BIG HUGS))  I post a lot of pregnant after a loss board, so feel free to page me any time over there, or send me a PM.

  • So sorry for your loss. I was also diagnosed with a PMP from pathology. I am 6 weeks post D&C and just hit "negative" (4) on my beta last week. I have a follow up appt on Friday and hope to know more then. I agree with the PP regarding the babycenter boards - they have been very helpful there. And it did seem to be a wave here. I had searched all over the bump to find posts when I was first diagnosed about a month ago and didn't have a lot of luck, but then there sadly seemed to be a bunch of them. It is like a double whammy to be hit with this on top of the loss, but like others said, it seems to depend on how fast your hcg drops and your doctor's philosophy as to when you are released. Many thoughts and prayers and know you are not alone!!
  • Thank you to everyone who responded - I would have been on earlier, but my computer crashed and we haven't been able to revive it. I really appreciate all of the information. My first hcg level was 34, which is pretty low, so that's a good sign. I should find out today what #2 was at.

Thank you again to all of you! I really appreciate the support and hope I'm at zero soon. Good luck to all of you as well.

  • I know this is an old thread but im six days post dnc for PMP and I got my levels tested yesterday (250) is this a good sign? they have dropped tremendously but I have read some forums where they stay in the lows for months. Btw i was 12wks 4days when I had the dnc 3/7/14
  • @johnswife&jakesmommy Bumping up old threads is in poor taste, especially on this board. Some of these people have moved on and have children whose pictures are now in siggies and are hard for some of us to have to see. Starting a new thread in the future instead of bumping one up that is almost 4 years old would be better.

The only way to know how successful your D&C was is to wait and keep an eye on your betas.
