Baby Names

Sara or Ayva / Ava

Hi everyone

We found out its a girl yesterday !!

I love short 3-4 letter names as our last name is kapoor and it seems to go on forever with the oor on the end.

What do you think about Sara or Ayva. I prefer the Ay spelling not sure why.

A few others we have tossed around are Zara (too arabic) ruby (I wanted Ruben for a boy and will be too matchy) Aria (got too popular in my area) Leyla, Emily (I like Mily nn) or Skye (prefer as middle name).

Honest opinions please or you have any suggestions ? First child.

Thank you so much. I haven't got many people around to toss ideas around with.

  • I would stick to the real name spelling of Ava.  Ayva would never be the spelling people would assume for a person. Ava in general is very popular though and has been for a long time.  Sara is nice but nms to use.  Between Sara and Ava I pick Ava despite popularity.  of the other listed I really like Emily as well.

Just a few suggestions to throw out since you don't seem set in any of the names.

    Audra
    Amelia
    Felicity
    Linnea
    Lucy
    Clara
    Serafina
    Anika

  • Don't do Ayva. I was trying to say Aeeeva as I read it. I like Ava however. Not a fan of Sara.
  • Please don't use Ayva. Ava is lovely. I like Sara as well.

  • I know a girl who just named her baby Ayvah. It's bad. People are really confused.

Ava is lovely, please don't butcher it.
  • Sara. I prefer it spelled Sarah, though. Zara is nice too. Possible suggestions:
    Cara
    Amy
    Vera
    Mara
    Lara
    Laura
    Lana
    Lena
    Celia
    Hannah
    Tara
  • Sara, because Ava is way too popular. She'll be one of 10 in her class.

I also like the suggestion Hannah and I'll propose Heidi, I think the juxtaposition of a Germanic first name and Kapoor as a last name is super interesting.
  • I love Ava... I don't know what Ayva is.
  • Sara! Classic, and not too overdone right now.
  • One of 10 in her class? I don't think you understand how stats work. I went to a large schooling system with the first name Jennifer born in the mid 80s. There was never more than 2 of us in a class.

Love Ava though and agree on keeping the traditional spelling, as at ayva changes the pronunciation.
  • Not sure where you got that spelling... Ayva is not a proper name or spelling variant for the name Ava. Also, @Bringmemylongswordho pointed out that the pronunciation would change by adding a y.

In any case. Ava is a nice name. Sara is as well.

Zara is not my style. Ruby is great, but not if you intend to use Reuben for a potential son... you either save it or use it now. Aria is overdone and just feels like it wants to be classic, but isn't. Leyla is actually an Arabic name (not Zara), to qualify your statement. Emily is very nice, but I really don't think a nickname is necessary for this name. If you want to use Millie as a nickname, consider Camille or Camilla. Skye is nice and also not common.

Out of all these I like Sara, Ruby, and Emily.

  • Loving Camille "Millie" Kapoor!
  • I really like Zara but if it's between Sara and Ava, I like Sara.
  • Ayva would change the pronunciation to I - va. I have an extra letter in my name which phonetically changes the pronunciation. Every English teacher I ever had has pointed this out to me. When I worked sales my coworkers quickly figured out that my "be backs" would often use the wrong pronunciation. I've also never let my Mom live down the mistake that is my names spelling. In any case, both names are nice and common. Sara is trending down while Ava is trending up. Go with the one you like more.
Definitely pronounced it Eye-vah at first look. Don't like the spelling, as others have said.
  • No, no, no to Ayva!!! Sara is lovely. I really like Zara too. Ava is a bit too popular for me but at least it's spelled correctly.

  • I like both Sara and Ava (not Ayva!!). But I'm not a fan of Sara Skye, if that's the mn you choose.

    What about Mila or Isla?
  • One of 10 in her class? I don't think you understand how stats work. I went to a large schooling system with the first name Jennifer born in the mid 80s. There was never more than 2 of us in a class.

I don't think you understand how hyperbole works...
  • A few suggestions:

    Ivy
    Anya
    Maya
    Ada
    Vera
    Lila

  • Of your choices, I like Sara or Emily.  Ava is fine, I'm just over it.  Also like PP's suggestions of Ivy and Vera.  Also consider Veda.
  • I honestly find Sara to be a little boring, but Ava (no to Ayva) is so overwhelmingly popular right now. I'm tied between the two, but would probably say Sara even though I think it's a little lackluster. I think Ruby is a great name, but if you're dead set on Reuben for a potential boy one day I'd skip it. Leyla is ok, but I don't care for the Y spelling. I like Zara a lot, it's unique but not weird.
