Sudden Thirst

Today, I started to become incredibly thirsty. I admittingly am not the best at drinking, but I guzzled down some juice, a water bottle, and watermelon in minutes and still couldn't seem to quench the thirst and I've been doing my best to drink all day; mouth still feels dry. I'm peeing more than I already was because of this, but I can't remember if the sudden increase in thirst is common or not?

I think it can be common but it can also be a warning sign for pre eclampsia. You may want to mention it to your OB just to be safe.

Edited to add: you may just be dehydrated in which case water is the best thing to rehydrate. Juices has a lot of extra sugars.
  • I know I've been drier than normal, both skin and eyes. The drier weather doesn't help either. Chapstick, lotion, and water are my best friends.

this for sure. i would up the amount of water you're drinking, & then mention it to your OB. better to be safe than sorry!
  • Also add some electrolytes to your water. I recommend UCAN HYDRATE. It's all natural and has no sugar. Sometimes if you are a bit dehydrated your body will not absorb the water without help. The electrolytes will help reset you. I had this issue when I had HG and now I'm thirsty all day but the UCAN helps. Now I feel back to normal. Hope that helps.
  • It could also be a warning sign of gestational diabetes, but dehydration would probably be more likely.  How are you feeling now?

  • I get this too but it's not that unusual for me. Pregnancy seems to make eating and drinking anything but exact right amount very unpleasant. If I eat too much I get very thirsty, heartburn, etc. Ugh.
  • Im always so thirsty during every pregnancy...think its bc i dont drink enough normally. Happens every pregnancy (and while breastfeeding too) for me.
  • I spoke with an on-call nurse and she told me it's incredibly common at this stage in pregnancy to be really thirsty and to keep drinking. I have a doctor's appointment in a week or so, so unless it gets much worse, I will just keep drinking.

I also didn't realize thirst was a symptom of pre-E...I was more thinking that it could be GD possibly rearing its head...
