Just wondering how much time everyone is logging and at what ages. My lo immediately falls asleep 90% of the time when I flip her over to get some tummy time in! Didnt see any previous threads on the topic.
My guy is 2 weeks. I haven't followed any schedule, but started at about a week. Right now we do tummy time like once or twice a day, just as long as he wants. Sometimes that's not even a minute, sometimes it's a few minutes at a time. By a month I want to have gotten him down to doing it a few times a day for a tad longer. We've also mainly stuck to doing it on my chest, so probably this we'll start incorporating a different surface.
We've been doing tummy time with her lying on our chests when she's being alert. She's 2.5 weeks old and lifts her head and looks around. We're not really timing it, but she does it for at least a few minutes at a time. You could try lying in the floor with her and giving her some interaction, which might help keep her awake.
LO will be 3 weeks Thursday. We started tummy time at about 1 week and just do it on our chests right now. It usually lasts under 5 min because he gets worn out. But we try to do it 2-3 times a day.
My attempts at tummy time on the floor were a complete failure because he won't stay on his tummy. However, on my chest he is content to hang out on his tummy and look around for a while. It actually tends to be something that calms him down when he's grumpy, so we do it several times a day. Usually after a little while it turns into a nap, but that's fine by me, haha
My LO is 4 weeks old. We do tummy time flat on his tummy or with a Boppy pillow. I put him on his tummy every time he's awake during the day (so usually after he eats) & he gets an accumulated 1-2 hours of tummy time a day depending on how long he stays awake or before he gets upset about being on his tummy.
I'm having a really hard time with tummy time. My LO hates it. We have one of those soft mats and I'll put her on it and she'll scream. Same with a more firm surface. She does like our chests though. I'm just not sure what the problem is

DS used to hate it too. I found if I put him on the sofa and sat on the floor in front of him he did better. He also like looking at a black and white book.
With this LO we just have been doing on our chests so far. She loves lifting her head to look at us. She is still sleeping the majority of the day, so she does not do tummy time that long, probably about 10 to 15 minutes a day.
I started pretty much as soon as we got home. But only for a few minutes a day & added more time as days went by. Our pedi said u can never start to early with tummy time.
My LO is 7 weeks, and we just do tummy time on our chests. She hates being flat on the floor, so we'll either use a boppy to support her or we'll do tummy time on the couch. I think she just hates the hardness of the floor so all she does is scream into the blanket which is pointless. She also has some reflux/spit up issues so it's not necessarily comfortable for her. I'll carry her around the house up right on my chest and she'll look over my shoulder and she does really well at keeping her head up on her own. I'd say she gets a few hours of tummy time in a day this way.
We do tummy time a few times a day, both on our chests and on a tummy time mat on the floor. My LO has made some crazy progress with holding her head up over the last week. It's amazing how quickly they can get so strong!!
BB is 3 weeks and we do it once a day, maybe twice if we get time. I put her at the edge of the bed and sit on the floor so I can get in her face and try to guide her movements with my voice. She's been awesome and managed to lift and turn her head a few times.
My ped told us we could start whenever but recommended waiting until after her umbilical cord stump fell off so it'd be more comfortable. We do tummy time several times a day, whenever my husband or I thinks of it, really. Baby doesn't seem to mind, even kind of likes being on her tummy. I agree @ceridwen77, their little neck muscles get strong so fast, mine is holding her head up for what seems like so long, I love watching her progress!!
My son is 13 days old and we started tummy time this week. We were amazed at watching him, because he actually can flip himself over from belly to back. I don't know a lot of babies, but that seems a little early...anyone else experience this? I'm going to mention to our pedi when I see him next week.
@SoFlaMommie1128 They told us in the hospital we could start tummy time when we got home so we did and my little guy rolls back to belly every time we try it, since he was 5 days old! I thought I'd mention it to pedi too at our first appointment tomorrow.
@SoFlaMommie1128 my LO has been rolling from back to tummy since his second week and the other day we watched him do a full 360 roll. We giggled pretty hard at his surprised face.
So is this normal for a 1 month old, or is my kid weird? When we do tummy time, she lifts her head once in awhile (we like to save that for upright over the shoulder time), but she's far more interested in getting her legs under her and her butt in the air. Last time she honestly scooted forward a good couple inches this way! I could only do boppy tummy time once because she almost launched herself over it! Is this kid gonna crawl while dragging her head on the floor or something?!

My 1 month old is like this too. She doesn't really hold her head up when on her tummy, but moves her legs like crazy and it almost seems like she is going to crawl. She does hold her head up more when she is upright.

That's pretty much how my LO responded to tummy time with the mombo pillow. That imagery made me LOL while she was nursing, btw... Poor thing, drifting off to sleep mid-meal, and here I am getting her all shaken up!

Haha, sorry kiddo!
DH and I laughed about it when I told him, but it was terrifying at the time. She would've face planted onto hardwood floor if I hadn't grabbed her. Good to know it's not just my weird kid trying to get ahead of the game though.
I have a tummy time question! She'll stay like this and look bak and fourth but I propped her up on her arms, she doesn't make any real effort to lift her head on her own when she's just on her belly is that normal for a 9 weeks old? She has had a lot of head control since birth and can hold herself upright when we hold her
This is how she'll stay when I prop her to look around
I think so, Cecily holds her head up really well if I'm holding her on my chest or against my shoulder. Everyone comments on how strong her neck is, but on her belly, she only lifts her head a little and turns it from side to side unless I prop her up. She's 8 weeks.

My pediatrician checks DD's tummy time progress at every appointment. She puts DD on her stomach with her face planted into the ground and then watches her. At two months they should be able to lift from that position to 45 degrees. After seeing the pediatrician do this that's how I always start tummy time. At first I was starting with DD's head turned to the side and she'd just lay there. Face plant her and she goes nuts lifting her head!

Face plant idea is great. My LO either cries or just falls asleep on her belly whenever we do tummy time on the floor. The sleeping is probably because I start with her head turned to the side too.

My pediatrician, at the 2 month appointment, said she's too little for tummy time when I asked for advice. I'm starting to get really irritated with him.

Wtf? My ped asked if we were doing tummy time at her one month appt. I've never heard of a ped suggesting you delay tummy time!
Zeke can get to almost a 90° angle when he's laying on one of our chests, but he only gets to about a 45° angle when he's on his mat. I think part of it is he's just not interested in looking up when he's on the floor (he's mad we put him there), whereas when he's on our chest he can look at our faces and things behind us.
The doctor didn't put him on his belly to see how he's doing since Zeke was looking all around and pulling his head up while he was just in my arms.
I admit that I'm still not the best about doing tummy time on his mat with him. We kind of do it on our chests but he's so strong and pulls himself up all the time that I forget about him needing to keep strengthening those muscles. I've been trying to get better at it and I'm hoping once he actually interacts with things he'll tolerate tummy time more.
I'm not good about putting her on the mat often either I don't think of it because she does so well in our arms and on our chest so I'm not sure what she should be able to do. She also pretty much will just turn her head or just lay there and not want to participate at all lol

Wow that's nuts. We've been doing tummy time with DD since we brought her home from the hospital. We mostly did it on our chests for the first week or so, but then moved to the ground. Our pediatrician has checked her tummy time progress at every appointment too!
We do floor tummy time daily because it's harder work than doing it on your chest. No way we get 15min a day, but a couple minutes here and there and she's made great progress.
We do a lot of tummy time on the boppy and then the face plant tummy time is only a few minutes each session because he gets really PO'd. But we usually get 2 sessions in where he will pick up his head, look around and then roll over. After that he's pooped and the crying starts. Then we move to the boppy.
Our pedi recommended it right after we saw him after leaving the hospital. I don't know why a pedi would reccomend to wait. I would look for a new one if you are already irritated with yours.
My LO does pretty good doing tummy time on the boppy and holds head up for few seconds but when I try and do it on a mat with no pillow, face plant type, she loses it and doesn't seem to move her head at all. She definitely is not even close to rolling either (11 weeks). Anyone else seeing this? I try and do tummy time couple minutes through out day but I have no idea how I can get her to do fifteen minutes per day

Thanks for the post.
We just saw our family doctor for Annas 8 week check up. Anna doesn't have too much head strength when she's on tummy time.
She seems good when your holding her bUT on the tummy mat she raises her head to turn it and that's about it. She also falls asleep half the time.
Doctor said more tummy time is needed
