SSRIs (like Prozac and Zoloft) are safe for pregnancy, but it is my understanding that benzodiazapenes (like klonapin and Ativan) are NOT safe. Please follow up with your psychiatrist and/or OB.
Yes thank you. That I'm aware of and all my doctors are aware. I'm finding that different doctors have different opinions on continuing on what works for me. Going off and having anxiety and panic attacks can be worse for baby than taking medications. So I'm looking for testimony from others with experience!
I too struggle from some ferocious anxiety and panic and I have struggled even more during this pregnancy. While Klonopin is Class D, what I've been told by docs is that it can be prescribed when the health benefits to mama outweigh the risks. Apparently most of the research showing risks is quite dated as well.
I have had to take Klonopin occasionally this pregnancy... especially in the beginning. My anxiety has flared up again up so I've taken a couple of half tablets (.25) within the last week. I'm trying other things as well--- therapy, acupuncture, exercise, distraction, but sometimes my anxiety is so high that none of this works.
You are definitely not alone and you are doing the best you can.
Re: Anxiety medications
And I agree, sometimes not being medicated is worse.
