I have a question! I'm just now starting to think about nursery furniture and I'm wondering how necessary a changing table really is. I feel like it's not something you really neeeeeeed, but is it nice to have? Or just if I want to? Working with limited space so I'm curious to hear what you all think. Thanks ladies.
I used a dresser with a changing pad on top. That was a necessity for me.
The dresser with a changing pad on top is the best option in my opinion. We've done it both ways. We used a dresser with changing pad on top in DD's room, but in the nursery the dresser is too high/narrow to change a baby on safely. We have limited space as well, but did eventually buy a changing table for in there and we use it all the time. Personally, I'd say don't buy a changing table until after baby comes and you get a feel for whether or not you'll use it... and if possible, invest in a good dresser instead.
My husband and I are both quite tall. Our original plan was to have a dresser with a changing pad on top. However, we found that we couldn't find (that we liked) that was an appropriate height for us and safe for baby. It felt like all the dressers that were low and wide enough to change baby required both of us to spend the entire time fully bent over. And the dressers that were tall enough for us to stand comfortably were too narrow for a squirmy baby. The changing table we found seemed to split the difference. I would recommend "trying out" your different furniture options at the store. Grab a stuffed animal and some boxes of stuff and mime the actions of diaper changing and see what feels best. Is there room for all the stuff. Is baby a comfortable distance from you etc. I agree with pp that you will get much more long term use out of a dresser but in our case it just wasn't the right fit so we opted to add a changing table.

Did you check out the Ikea dressers? They're pretty tall.
@eivaska what do you mean a dresser that's too high to be safe for baby? We have one that the height of the surface comes to our elbows. My husband and I are tall too so we needed something ergonomic. I have a cruddy back so anything that makes me *slightly* bend over like washing dishes at a regular height sink or vacuuming kills my back. We swapped out a low dresser and a higher one from our bedroom to use with our first.
As long as a change pad safely fits on top then the surface is safe. It doesn't matter if it's high or low you're never supposed to be hands off when changing. I don't have my hands on him at all times but I am standing in front of our dresser and everything is within arms reach. I'd be doing the same if it's 4' off the ground or 2'. We had a few comments that it was "too high" from grandparents but we always rebutted with the fact you're not supposed to be more than arms reach anyway. What does the height matter. Everyone stopped complaining after that
Props to you all !! I am a professional interior designer ( i.e. I have a degree in interior design ) and my nursery is not done ! I just spent the past month in hospital and now I'm on bed rest, my mom flew in last month and painted for me but with odd sized Windows ( two of them arghh ) and me being picky and wanting blue toile... curtains won't be made until my mom is back 3 weeks after my due date and I still have a rug to buy... Chair to buy... Changing station ... Basically everything - I'm so glad my clients havnt asked to see pictures, it would be an embarrassment !! Well done to you that are so on the ball !!
So I am still missing a shelf, my glider, and some little decor things but I wanted to post this since I am 36+ weeks and could have my little monster any time now. Every nursery looks beautiful. I love so many of them!
Still working in here little by little. Still need to build window seat, make a shade, hang some art & get a ceiling light. Love how it came together so far. If only the rest of my house was so organized & decorated haha
@CalebsHabibi thank you! They're actually a dresser with cubbies on top - all from IKEA! The window seat is another set of cubbies, too. Lots of storage! I failed at measuring a bit, so we were lucky that they JUST barely fit beside the window. Math is hard with pregnancy brain!
I'm just wondering if anyone is nervous about their baby coming out not as they expected (like a boy instead of a girl) and what they'll do about the nursery if that happens... I bought all pink stuff and girl clothes and I'm sitting here like man they better not be wrong or I'm screwed...
Finally just about done with baby girls room! I've had so much fun with all the pink and ruffles!!! Unfortunately the lighting in her room doesn't work very well with my iPhones camera. But you get the idea
I just want to know how you did the pom poms. Are they on a string hanging from the ceiling? And is it just scotch tape holding it? I'm planning on doing the same thing in our nursery but I want to make sure it stays up well and do it efficiently.

We have the same decorations in my DD2's room (DIY'd). They're hanging from fishing wire and screwed into the ceiling with very small "i screws"
Everyone's nurseries look so nice! We were supposed to get ours all put together yesterday but the crib we ordered has an upside down part. And today amazon wanted $180 to ship it back to them-thankfully the customer service guy was just like "keep it", and we are getting a full refund. We have contacted the manufacturer to see about getting a new piece. Ugh. I just want the room done. I'm going to try to put together what I can today/tonight.
