So I fell...

Long story short I was walking backward and a kid at my school decided to lay down on the sidewalk behind me. I fell on my butt but it all felt very mild and didn't hurt. I happened to have an appointment about 30 minutes later so I talked to my midwife then.

She said as long as it wasn't a "jarring" fall then I didn't need to go in to be monitored. She also said if I still felt baby moving after 4 hours and I felt okay that I was in the clear. I'm a quantitative person. Jarring meant absolutely nothing to me and it worries me even though originally the fall didn't worry me one bit.

So here I am at 2:30am (11 hours later) googling falls in pregnancy only because I have one tender spot when I stretch right above my pelvic bone. Baby is moving fine. Otherwise I feel absolutely fine. No spotting or anything. It was really a pretty easy fall but I worried myself now. I can't even tell if the pain is fall related or just another perk of being 37 weeks. Do I call about it?!

  • Call your MD first thing in am.

  • Your midwife didn't seem concerned, if you've not had bleeding or not felt the baby move then you're fine.
I've fallen twice this pregnancy, one on my side and one right on my butt, thankfully the LO is okay but it happens!
  • I would go in for a stress test just for peace of mind. I fell a while ago and thought since she was moving and I wasn't leaking or bleeding I was fine. My OB got on me for not going straight to L&D. She said it's better to be safe than sorry this late in the game. I went in and did a stress test then they checked to see that the placenta was still in tact. Thankfully everything was okay but it doesn't hurt to go in and get checked.
  • I fell about a week ago straight on my butt because my dog decided to run straight under my legs on a very slippery porch. I immediately called labor and delivery. I was sore but no bleeding, contractions, and baby boy was definitely still in there and moving like a lunatic. If you truly believe something is wrong (it sounds like you don't) I would call again but the nurse told me that falling during your third trimester is more common then you would think because your center of gravity is way way off. Take it easy, drink water, make sure you monitor and that baby!
  • I fell this morning and even though I didn't land on my bump and am not having any symptoms (besides a seriously injured knee) my midwife wanted me to go in for monitoring. Since that time I have been admitted for 24hr observation because of contractions I wasn't even feeling. Better safe than sorry I think, and sometimes you can be having a problem without any obvious signs, so it's good to call and check. Hope everything turns out ok for you.
  • I knkw how you feel. When I was at 23 weeks, I fell on my side, and wiped out both of my knees and my left hand ony palm. I got my left side good enough, that I ended up with THREE stitches iny left knee! >_< Thankfully baby was and IS okay. But that was still so very horrible to deal with. Especially with being pregnant, having stitches in the knee, and NOT really being able to walk or bend my knee because of it all. But hoping you're doing well, and everything is still going right and strong.
  • Thanks ladies everything is fine! I didn't go in or call today because I'm trying not to be a worry wart and little girl moved plenty all day but no more pain :) something must have just been sitting funny
  • I fell yesterday too! I fell on my bump though and it was just past when the doctors leave the office so I went in to just get checked. The nurse said that I was her second fall on that shift. Baby was totally fine and showing the nurse how he does the wave with my stomach, but it always feels good to get feedback from someone else. It's hard to keep our balance when we're a little uneven these days lol
  • Just a fun mental image for you ladies. After I fell yesterday I got admitted for 24 hr observation, but I also really hurt my knee. I am 38 weeks pregnant, wearing a johnny, strapped up to all these monitors and an IV, and they have given me a bracelet that reads "fall risk" and a walker to help me get around, like a 90 year old woman. I look utterly ridiculous. My mother-in-law wants a photo. Over my dead body.
  • Oh no! I'm sorry! That's awful
