Working out?!?

Happy Wednesday!!!

I have struggled with weight my whole life..I lose I gain I lose I gain..I was currently before I found out I was pregnant in the process of losing weight. Is it still ok to continue to work out, like cardio and lifting.

Does anyone else work out? What do you do?

  • You can do anything pregnant that you did before pregnancy, as long as you're not high risk. :) I wouldn't like start rock climbing now if you hadn't already been doing that but if you were exercising, it's still safe. Just tune into your body and if it tells you to stop, stop.

    I've been doing prenatal yoga and running after my 11mo...does that count? ;)

    I bought a prenatal workout dvd that I'm planning on starting today. Or tomorrow. lol

  • So I have also struggled with my weight my whole life. I, in contrast, was on the gaining weight side of things. Is it okay to START back up a workout routine?
  • I am a fitness instructor and personal trainer (17years). The past few months I've been teaching 18 classes a week (some days 4-5 a day). They say if you have been working out in the past, then to continue. If you are new, light exercise is recommended for a healthy safe pregnancy (now is not the time to start training for a an ironman lol).

    Even if you have been exercising, take it down a notch. Avoid excessive jumping, super heavy weights, physical contact sports, anything with potential of falling (biking, etc). I also wear a heart monitor to make sure I am not pushing too hard (If I remember correctly with DD#1 I shouldn't go over 150ish. Non-pregnant I could get myself to 190). I plan on monitoring myself and taking it down.

    If you are new to working out- just walking or the elliptical is a great start. Light weights too.

  • You should check in with your OB to make sure but, like PPs said, you're likely okay to continue working out now that you're pregnant. Make sure to keep in mind these basic dos and don'ts when it comes to working out during pregnancy! https://bump.ly/6000BTWBO
  • I work out regularly and will tone it down a bit just to be on the safe side.  I run with my dog daily, do yoga and pilates, plus lift.  I usually do light weight high reps, so I'm not too concerned and obviously won't join my hubby at hot yoga and pilates any longer :) Staying active is the only way I have been able to manage my hormones!! lol
  • Working out while pregnant is SO good for you! General rule is, if you were doing it before being pregnant, you can continue on. I workout everyday! It keeps you healthy during pregnancy, helps you to stay on track with weight gain AND helps with labor and delivery.

  • I worked out my entire last pregnancy :) helped me bounce back pretty quickly!
