Baby Names

Girl names that are not overly feminine?

We're having problems coming up with girl names that are not too overly feminine. I'm not girly at all and can't imagine naming a daughter something overly girly. Names like Josslyn, Paisley, Lynlee, and Adalind are just too girly for us.

Something with a more masculine nn
    Miranda nn randy
    Samantha nn Sam
    Alexandra nn Alex
    Josephine nn Joey
    Rosalind nn Roz
    Nicolette nn Nic
    Danielle nn Danny
    Francesca nn Frankie
    Victoria nn Vic or Tory

  • Jessica
    Claudia
    Georgia
    Ingrid
    Imogene

  • For the record, thank you for taking those names off the list. Lynlee? Eek!!

What about a name with a more masculine nn as pp suggested? That's how we ended up with Josephine, nn Jojo... though when she's older it will probably just be Jo.
  • Our girls are Brynn and Paige.

  • Quinn is one of my favorites. It was our top choice for a girl. Also suggest Sloane, Ivy, Piper, Tessa, Lauren.
  • The names you said you dislike seem don't seem like the girliest in the world, but mostly cheesy and made up. To me, names ending in -a or -ie, --ey seem girliest. So maybe a name with a consonant ending like: Jordan Madison Wren Lauren Erin Teagan Paige Gretchen Maren Meredith Ellen Quinn Jean Joan Shannon
  • Try searching sites like Nameberry.com for ending in -r or -n. They tend to come across as stronger.

One of the veterinarians I work with named her daughter Lynlee and my cousin named her daughter Paisley...Definitely not the biggest fan!

I love love love the name Alex but my husband likes long names that can be shortened. I've mentioned Alexandra/Alexandria a few times and he's on the fence about it, saying its a mouthful (silly man, you shorten it to Alex, problem solved!) I love seeing everyone here suggest it! I have only heard that name once in person and was afarid it was a little out there.

  • Girl I went to school with went by alix as her nn & I thought it looked a little more feminine.

What about Alexia? Longer than just Alex, can still be shortened.

Really? That's surprising. I've known several Alex's (boy and girl). I like it!
