Pregnancy announcement on Christmas

Re: Pregnancy announcement on Christmas

  • My husband and I have decided to give these ornaments to our parents on Christmas. My mom will be visiting us, and we'll send them to my dad and my husband's parents, but we're going to enlist our siblings to make sure we're FaceTime-ing with them when they open the gifts!

  • rikopy Had my DH watch the video with me last night and I think we're going to try to pull off the same for both of our families!!  Can't wait to hear how your family will react.  Are you going to record the reactions?

  • We purchased the book "Room for a Little One- A Christmas Story". We will give both mine and my husband's parents a copy of the book and we will ask then to read it to our kids. We will have a note tucked in a page that says, "We hope you will enjoy reading this to your new grandchild next Christmas!" I can't wait:):)
  • @alwayshug we are going to stick with a paci (both my DDs used one for the first 9m) and it seems like we are always losing them!
  • We are doing this with his family...a large box filled with pink and blue balloons and one stork balloon. When his mom opens it the balloons will flow out of the box.

@ashleyluxe I can't wait to see their reactions! This is the first grandchild on both sides. We're definitely going to be filming it! My mom already knows, so I'll prob have her and my husband sneakily film my in-laws opening the box.

  • DH and I just had this conversation last night, as I found out I was pregnant on my lunch yesterday! The problem is that I am not quite sure how far along I am, my guess is 3 weeks (could be wrong). So, I am hesitant to say anything. With DS, we waited until after the 1st Dr. appt to tell our parents but with Christmas coming up, and everyone being together, it really just makes sense to announce it. My family lives almost 2 hours from me so I REALLY want to tell them during the holidays. Anyways, we decided to tell them and buy DS a big brother tee I found on Amazon. My conundrum now is-do I tell me mom during the family party or tell her first? (She has a big mouth...lol)

  • I love all of these ideas! I keep going back and forth myself, but both of our moms picked unusual grandma names for themselves, so it has to be something personalized. We are not the first grandchild on either side, so, I can't decide. I was thinking of just buying DH and I announcement t-shirts off etsy and wearing them Christmas day. His would say "cheeseburgers" or something and mine would say "baby". But I also love the idea of "forgetting" a present in the car for each of our moms and wrapping something cute up.
Rainbow baby Dean is due 2/17/17!
  • For my family we are having our DD open a book about being a big sister. For my DH family we had a wood art made that says grandkids make life grand. With cloths pins on the cloths pins we are putting a pic of DD and a pic of the US.

  • We actually spend the night with my in-laws, I'm walking into breakfast wearing this shirt...were also using this shirt to some degree with the rest of our family but I think his mom's will be the coolest!
  • Where are those ornaments from??
  • A large box wrapped in Christmas paper and a bow with helium balloons with writing like "we're excepting" or something, taped by string to the bottom of the box so when it opens the balloons pop up and they all get a fright but then get excited..

We're definitely telling both sets of parents (and my sister) at Christmas. Still debating how.

For my parents, we'll have dinner before opening presents, so our options are:

    1. Wear a shirt that mentions a baby
    2. Give them an early present
    3. Pretend to drink my wine and hope they don't notice

If it's an early present, it'll either be little booties or a onesie, or an ornament.

For the ILs, FIL said a while back that he wants to be called Pickles instead of grandpa or papa. So we're going to wrap up a jar of pickles and see how long it takes them to figure it out haha.

I'll only be 6w3d and 6w4d, but we've been trying for 11 months and they've been patient so I want them to know no matter what the outcome ends up being.
  • I have my first ultrasound and dr appt the morning of Christmas Eve! While my husband and I are overly excited, I am a little nervous in the back of my mind. This is my first pregnancy and all I can do is pray things go smoothly! Anyway, my mom always has a huge Christmas Eve party. If all goes well at out appt, we will take the ultrasound picture and slip it into a Christmas card. I already sent her a Christmas card, but I'm going to act like I found it outside her house and un-addressed. Not very clever, but they still won't see it coming! It is simple, and again my first baby, their first grandchild, so I have no idea what they want to be called, etc...so just keeping it simple yet effective! It's especially been so hard keeping this from my mom! I'm only telling parents are brother for now though since it's still early. Hopefully they can keep the secret until hubby and I are real to tell everyone else!
  • Okay here are the final products for my mom and dad. I've already told my mom but I still want to surprise her with the second one..

My family has adopted a Christmas tradition of wearing animal pajamas (kigurumi) on Christmas morning. In fact, my sister's long time bf just got his own pair this year. It's kind of a running joke tradition.

To announce to my family, I bought a super cute panda bear onesie that I will give to my parents to unwrap with the note, "Now everyone will have an outfit for next Christmas!"
  • @mumblefrog86 We're also having my daughter open some big sister books! I think it will be a fun way to surprise everybody.

  • I think we are going to "accidentally" give each of our parents a big sister book wrapped up. When they open it we will say something like "oh no, that one was for DD, must have labeled it wrong!"

  • @mrsmommya I too have mc before and we will be telling at Christmas. I will only be 6w4d and my first ultrasound won't be until New Year's Eve. Here's to hoping and praying for the best!

  • I was thinking of having a stocking with the name "Baby Bubblegum" and put it with the other stockings. Someone typically hands them out at our Christmas so I think that would be fun.

I wanted to do the same thing with H's family but he says often people just grab their stockings....

Hmmm my dilemma with H's family is I can't have everyone open something at once because we typically all take turns and anything out of the norm or obvious will have my SIL saying "OMG your pregnant" before anything is even opened. If shes going to yell it out before we can even do something I am thinking we should just beat her to it and just say Merry Christmas everyone, we're pregnant! lol

@rikopy I should not have looked. Now I am crying.

My mom has always talked about "teeny tiny shoes!!!" There is a song and dance that goes along with it. Used for years as a nudge that she wants grandbabies- hint hint... We got a pair of newborn shoes, are wrapping it up in Christmas paper and giving it to her as a gift.

His family is out of state, so we are skyping in on Xmas eve, then going to screen shot their reactions. We're going to ask everyone to get close, so we can take a picture, then give them the news.

  • We are announcing on xmas. Well its actually January 2nd we are doing xmas with my inlaws. We bought my daughter a shirt. We will have her open it the night before with just her Nana and papa (we always open one gift on xmas eve) so I'll just say it's like that. They will have their attention on her. I'll have my phone out and then the next day she can wear it to the xmas party (until they notice then her christamas outfit) and the next day is family day with my fam and she can wear it again. Our appoint is Dec 29, no ultrasound but they will do a blood test. And who knows when I'll see all my inlaws again so we will do it for sure! Also, I think the shirt will help my almost 3 year old to process it all :)
  • "Merry Christmas, I'm pregnant and pukey!!" might be the way we tell everyone...
  • As much as I love this idea, I'll just be over the 4 weeks and DH and I think it's just too early. My mother knows but she's the only family member that does and we plan on keeping it that way until we have an US that shows something.
    Expecting baby #1 August 2016
Already have three furbabies- Blake, Sydney, and Chester

  • We got these books in a couple days ago.. We will have them wrapped up. When parents and in laws open them we will ask them to read the book to the kids as a new Christmas tradition... Then they will see the note in the back.
  • We made ornaments that say "we're expecting Baby (our last name) #2 August 2016". Our DD is going to hand them out during our immediate family get togethers. And on our fireplace mantel we have a 4th stocking hanging with our three. It is a smaller version of our stockings with an H on it for our last name. We will see if anyone even notices.
