We love the name Alaska. What are your thoughts on this? Another thing to consider is our last name happens to be Ice. We liked the name regardless but is that too much with Ice? Also looking for a good middle name to go with Alaska.
Alaska is NMS. I definitely wouldn't name a child Alaska if my last name was Ice. It seems like a set up for that child getting reactions like laughter and comments like "wait, really?" for the rest of their life.
While Alaska is not my style (any location really), I can acknowledge it's a nice name. I would never pair it with Ice though. Unfortunately it makes the name sound made up, like a character, and/or a stage name. I'm sorry the name you love is sabotaged by your last name...but you should really choose something else, for her own good!
My parents thought they were funny. Had I been born a boy, my name would have been Sterling Silver (because, like you, i have an easily trollable last name)
I can't say for sure how i would have felt about it but I can say with a fair bit of confidence, the feeling would have been somewhere on the "not good" spectrum.
I don't even like the name Alaska without the last name ice. All I can think of if the Simpson's parody of Miley Cyrus (Hannah Montana) - Alaska Nebraska.
I don't love Alaska on its own, but I've seen much worse. Alaska Ice sounds like a cheap beer (or, as others have mentioned, a bad sex industry pseudonym).
Re: Alaska for a girl?
Maybe consider Aurora?
