Hearing heartbeat?

Hi there, just wondering for those who heard the heartbeat on Doppler already, how early did you hear it?
I have an appointment next week and I'll be 10w5 days. I saw the heartbeat at my ultrasound at 8w6 but I'm super scared about mc and would love to hear it next week as reassurance.
Thanks in advance!

Re: Hearing heartbeat?

  • Hey:) I just went today to see my midwife today and we heard the heart beat loud and clear, I'm exactly 10 weeks.

  • I was 10w5days when I heart the heartbeat!! Amazing!!
  • Heard it yesterday at 11w/6d. It took a minute or two to find it, but it was strong and consistent when they found it! Good luck!

  • In the event you don't hear it, don't worry! We tried at 11 weeks 4 days and no luck. It sounded like we almost got it a couple times but we have a very active little Houdini. Some women don't hear it until like 14 weeks apparently. It is really common to hear around 10/11/12 weeks but not at all abnormal if you don't. Fingers crossed for you that you do get to hear it though :)

  • 8w3d. But it is ok if you don't hear it! I hope you do, but they can be stubborn!

  • I used my Doppler last weekend. I was 10w2d. Took me a little while to find it, but it was music to my ears. Now that I know where to find it, it's much easier each time.

  • I saw it at 8w (first u/s) and then heard it yesterday at 9w1d. I agree with PP, it can be hard to find/hear, it took my dr. a few min to get it.
  • At my last appt a few days ago I was at 11w4d, and they were unable to find the heartbeat with a Doppler- we did however cheat and use an u/s to find it (and as a bonus I got to see my wiggleworm!). Everyone is a little different. I have a little extra padding on my middle so that may be why the Doppler didn't work so well. You could always ask the doctor about using an u/s to find the heartbeat if they're unable to find it with the Doppler

  • I heard it at my 10 week appointment this week, but it was hard to find and the midwife said they can't always find it but it was easier because I'm small. Don't know how true that is.

  • Thanks everyone! Hope I'm lucky and get to hear it! I don't want to get my hopes up but it sounds like there's a decent chance!
  • We saw it at 6w5d and heard it at my last appointment at 9w5d. Hopefully you'll get to hear as well!
  • Heard with doppler at 9w6d, although it took a minute to find it. Good luck!
  • With my first they couldn't hear it at ~11 weeks. As previous posters states, I have a little extra padding on my tummy, and later found out that my placenta was anterior (between me and the baby) - which also meant I didn't feel kicks as soon as some other moms. Don't freak out if they can't hear it!
I go to my first appointment next week (just over 10 weeks) and I really hope this little bean is more cooperative than their sister was. Can't wait to hear the heartbeat!
  • I got to hear yesterday at 8 weeks 2 days! It was so amazing! I can't believe there is a little person in there... Totally blows my mind!
  • We heard our LOs at 6w5d, but our dr. Said that was super early to hear anything.

  • Thanks for all the replies! I heard the heartbeat today and it was exciting! It was a little on the high side at 180 bpm, but I'm hoping it'll go down a little in the next week or so (I'm 10w5d).
  • @graphicgranite vunderbar! :) So exciting!! 180 is in the normal range, just the high end of it (your OB prob said this too, sorry if so lol.) I first heard mine at 7+0 and was shocked it was so loud. I actually asked the dr if that was my hb or the baby's. Dr and DH laughed at my surprise. I think at the first two us my LOs HB was much higher than its measuring now (around 143 on my home Doppler on the rare days when I can find it).
  • I heard it at 7w4d during an ultrasound. Not sure if the ultrasound is able to pick it up better than a Doppler alone but it was amazing. I have an appointment at 10w4d with no U/S so I'm hoping that I at least get to hear the heartbeat on a Doppler then! I refuse to buy an at home one because I know I'll just freak myself out.
  • I just had my first appointment yesterday at 9 weeks and we were able to hear it. It was 170bpm.

Mine was 186. It freaked me out so much that I made a thread on high heart beats. Hoping mine comes down too :)

  • I'm glad this thread is here because my midwife couldn't find it today at 10w2d and I'm kind of sweatin' it even though she said it's nothing to worry about. Glad to hear I'm not the only one! But also glad to hear you got some reassurance OP
