Trying to Get Pregnant

UO Thursday

Re: UO Thursday

  • @novasaysno  I need to learn how to do my hair so I don't have to pay $100+ every 8 weeks.  I use to color my own hair but after 2 years of that I damaged my hair so I've been getting it professionally done and have seen a huge difference in the health of it.  I just hate spending so much money on HAIR. Like, I'd really rather spend $100+ on clothes or purses every 8 weeks then hair color that looks the same every time.  I'm interested in knowing how the color id works out for you!

@housewifehobbyist and @xstatic3333  YES!!!  My UO (or maybe Popular Opinion?) includes both the oils and Beachbody.  I'm so over everyone and their mother selling crap on FB or IG.   I want to hide/unfriend all of them.  A girl I'm friends with on FB just started Thrive and in less than 4 days she posted 50+ times.   Buh-bye.

Fine if you want to start selling something, but make a separate acct, give me the choice if I want to follow or not.
You always have the choice to follow or not! There is a handy "unfollow" feature on Facebook - you don't even have to unfriend. I use it quite liberally :)

And I have to agree. I'm a Beachbody coach myself and I get so frustrated with other coaches, or other MLM distributors on Facebook who post too frequently about what they are selling. I think it's fine to say "hey, I'm having a group/party/whatever - message me if you're interested!" every once and a while (maybe 1-2x per month?!) But I know way too many people who go way overboard 50x per day?! No thanks!

And I also really hate the way the shakes are marketed. They aren't really "meal replacements." I mean I eat like 6 meals a day, so sure, replacing one of those with the shake isn't a big deal, it's more like a snack at that point, but if you're eating only three meals and replace one with the shake you're going to be STARVING and way underfed. I extremely hate how they don't disclose the vitamins in the shake either - I can't tell if I'm getting too much of a specific vitamin when I take others, like PNVs. It's why I stopped drinking it!

ETA: My own unpopular opinion. I actually like a lot of the products sold through MLMs, like Scentsy, Jamberry, Younique, Norwex, Pampered Chef, but I don't like some of the overly aggressive sales ladies and refuse to attend any of their parties - online or not!
  • @severmilli12, Oh I completely understand. At first I didn't do enough research and damaged my hair a good bit. I had to chop off quite a bit of hair to pay for that mistake. Ever since then I made sure to try to stay on top of it. I do a lot of hair treatments, too.

I'm going to do a two step one this week- a hot coconut oil treatment (think the VO5 hot oil ones), and then finish it with a deep conditioner mask. I usually do a good treatment within a few days before I color. After I color I do a deep conditioner with something like a keratin treatment (or whatever looks promising and healthy for the hair). Then do a mask or hot oil once ever week or two. I have a huge tub of coconut oil, so that's one of my favorites to use and my hair loves it (and it's cheap!).

Some people say to just rub in the coconut oil into your hair and leave it for several hours if you have nothing to do. I've also read about warming coconut oil up to a liquid and mixing it into a really good conditioner for daily use (just remember to shake it a little before use). I haven't tried either yet, but they're on the list.

It's a learning curve but I've really started to enjoy it, especially the chemistry side. Sometimes I wish I could go to a salon, but my dang scalp is so sensitive. There isn't a salon around here that carries the brand of color that my head likes and I'm afraid to try any other ones because the reactions are so bad.

I'll let you know how the color id works out. It looks so fancy!
Also, sorry I've been so long winded today. I've been on my pain meds for the chest thing and it makes me so chatty. :( Anyway, I'm off to bed! I'll try not to throw pistachios at work tonight. No promises.

  • @PoodleDoodleOoo I like many of the products, too. Especially Jamberry-I have no patience for chipping nail polish. And I like essential oils for diffusing for the scent, though generally not enough to spend money on them. Interesting to hear your perspective on BeachBody! Sounds like you're pretty responsible in how you use and market the products.
  • @ Xstatic3333
I certainly try to be. I know a lot of people aren't. The workout programs are actually really good (IMO, obviously, or I wouldn't be a coach), but I it really grates my gears when coaches offer up nutritional or fitness advice that's above their pay grade, or say things like "you can't lose any weight at all if you don't drink Shakeology," which is unfortunately fairly common.

As someone who underwent serious inpatient treatment for an eating disorder as a teen... the Facebook Beachbody coaches with their rants and advice and "inspirational quote pictures" make me give them a hard side eye.  Some of the advice is just so out of balance and encourages an unhealthy obsession with food and weight.  Food is neither sin nor savior, and no one needs to do 50 burpees because they ate pie.

And also your shakes look nasty.
Yes, I completely agree. Not down with meal replacement shakes unless they are prescribed a doctor or something. Also not down with getting nutrition advice from an MLM. You reminded me of my UO. I'm sick of people selling essential oils on FB and giving seriously questionable advice on how to use them. They smell great and I'm sure they have many good purposes, but they can also cause liver and kidney damage if used improperly and most of the people telling you to put a drop in your tea or something have no actual training on whether or not that's safe for a given person to do. Especially irritated when they are recommending them to use on dogs or babies. Super risky stuff.
I just saw something about this in the news! A baby was hospitalized because they treated him with essential oils that weren't diluted and he had a terrible reaction. They said it was to get rid of his cough. So frustrating.
(Okay though, seriously have got to shut down TB and go to sleep.)

ETA: There is no real point here, but I use essential oils in one of those candle warmer things (the one with the tiny bowl above a tea candle). Anyway, lemon balm, sweet orange, and lemongrass (equal-ish drops) will make your house smell like fruity pebbles.

  • @NovaSaysNo I get so furious with fake food allergy people! I have severe, anaphylactic food allergies. All those fakers give people like my dang MIL the idea that food allergies "aren't any worse than seasonal stuff" so we should just stop making a big deal out of it. She "doesn't believe in food allergies" and as such has almost sent me tho the hospital several times... we no longer eat at her house. Makes thanksgiving really fun!

Sorry for the rant, but people like that bug the crap out of me.

Also my UO is that I do not like avocados or guacamole.

There are some crazy people out there.
She "doesn't believe in food allergies" !? Wow, she should pay your medical bills. That really makes me angry for you.
I read a story from a surgeon that said his patient told him she was allergic to latex. They had to prep a second OR for her that was completely latex free (they had already set up one). After the surgery she told the surgeon she wasn't really allergic to latex, but she hated the way latex gloves sounded. Ugh.

That's horrible! It's so much extra work and money for them to prep a 2nd latex free OR. Of course if a person really does have a latex allergy it's totally understandable, but for someone who just doesn't "like" latex! If I was the surg tech on that case I would have been furious with that lady since I would have been the one setting up that 2nd latex free OR.

I hate it when the other teachers their kids fundraise by selling stuff. All the kids all ask me and they make me feel so bad for saying no to them, but I am like I already buy pencils/pens, paper, stapler, staples, the projector, the speakers, the dvd player, the crates,etc... in my classroom, so no I am not going to spend another dollar. But yes lets make me look like the scrooge. And then I remind myself it is not their fault that voters will not properly fund our schools....

Same here. I have allergies, but not life threatening. I have an allergy to alcohol (which I made sure to get tested by an allergist), but like the smoke thing is just a pain/inflammation trigger and I would never tell her I'm allergic to it. Just frustrating.

  • I hate the phrase "We're pregnant". No no no no no.....she is pregnant, together you are expecting. Last I checked, I haven't seen any men pushing out babies.

This. My husband's best friend is expecting a baby with his wife, and it's always "we are in for that weekend as long as we aren't in labor", "we are almost there, 8.5 months down!"

I hate the "we're pregnant" phrase as well, but I also hate when people say they're 'expecting'.  "We're expecting a baby, but there's a chance it may be a Velociraptor".  It just makes me stabby.
Ahahaha...I almost just got in trouble at work for laughing out loud at that. I too am not a fan of "We're expecting" but at least its more correct than the assumption that you collectively are going to give birth. Every time I hear it, I turn to my DH and ask if he was planning on growing a baby in his scrotum. He never is amussed.

@blonde1817 I totally get what you're saying with concerts.  If we go to them, they're at small venues like House of Blues, I have a hard time with huge stadiums.

I love the food, but my Thanksgivings have always been awkward (to say the least), I'd rather it was just DH and me doing it this year.

Also, there have been instances of people taking my leftovers and I am not about that life.

My UO is that while I am not a vegetarian, I don't really like meat.  I do eat it, but with Thanksgiving around the corner I am much more excited about all the sides than the turkey.  And I live in the midwest where BBQ is really popular, but again I am more into the mac and cheese, baked beans, coleslaw, mmmm...Or maybe I just need to go get some lunch.
